I like Buck's point about riding with folks you know. I used to live in Atlanta. My buddy had a Harley and went on big rides sponsored by a local dealership. They had a death for the very reason Buck mentioned. I haven't read the whole thread, so this may have come up. Of course, people texting have become a big threat. I worked with a guy years ago that had a fairly slow speed accident caused by loose gravel (small ones, not regular gravel). He was paralyzed from the waist down. We live in a world of distractions. You have to have focus when riding.
  4. Congrats! I haven't made it to the CZ family yet, but it is on the list.
  5. Great thread! These are the kind of threads that make TGO great. Talking about guns. Favorite handgun for enjoyment: Springfield 1911. I love the way it feels in my hand, how accurately I can shoot and the sheer hip, slick and cool look. Favorite handgun for defense: Close call, though I'll give it to the S&W M&P 9. I shoot it well, it holds plenty of ammo, it's a quality gun. Being a modern gun, it is easy to clean and care for. Runner up: Sig P226 SAO. It's a bit heavier for carry. Heck, it's such a nice gun I would want to risk having it confiscated. Favorite home defense weapon: Mossberg 500, 8 shot. I like it because it's a working gun. High quality, low price and ready to kick ass and take names. I like the safety on top of the stock and it has dual ejectors. I live in an apartment and use #4 buckshot. Favorite rifle: M1 Garand, 30-06. It's a sweet shooting gun, packed with history, that is really accurate. Favorite rifle runner up: The SKS. Easy to clean. easy to shoot. Not as heavy on the history, though a fine weapon any way you look at it.
  6. That must have been really cool to see Iwo Jima. By chance, did they let you go ashore?
  7. Marines killed this tiger in Vietnam after the tiger killed one of their recon team.

  9. Buck, Do they still use the Missouri and the type of guns she has? One time here on TGO I was talking about how stylish the WW2 guns are and just about got laughed off the board.
  10. This is for ANY military pics. I'm glad you have more recent ones as I don't.
  11. Yes, please post more recent pics. I haven't posted them because I don't have them. This thread is for anything military.
  12. Glad you are here. Those hobbies will be critical. Retirement for a lot of men leads to decline because they no long have a mission to accomplish. One thing I think would be cool is to volunteer at The Stones River shooting range. Those guys on the rifle range have a really good time.
  13. Done!
  14. This pic is from the battle of Kursk on the Eastern front. This was the largest tank battle in history. While both sides suffered heavy losses, the Russian's pretty much laid a country boy asswhoopin on the Germans. The Russians knew this was going to happen due to intelligence from allies and had five months to prepare. While not badass, the allies ability to break enemy codes was a real game changer in WW2.
  15. This severely damaged German He-111 managed to get back home "after a night out".
  16. These are the German 88's and generally considered one of the best weapons of WW2. I'm sure our artillery folks will know more. These could be cranked down and used against tanks and similar things. The German anti aircraft guns took a heavy toll on allied bombers over Germany - about 70% casualties for our guys. Paradoxically, they may have saved lives overall as the ammo for the guns was super expensive. I won't go look it up, though I think about 1/3 of the German military budget went to ammo for these guns.
  17. Thanks for the Middle East pics. My main interests are WW2, Korea and Vietnam - so those are mainly what I have pics from.

That is a sharp looking ride! I've never understood the attraction to rice rockets. Harley is the King of hip, slick and cool.
