Welcome to TN. You'll find the winters here are a little different from Nebraska.

I like your incubator idea. I followed peejman's advice and put the firing pin assembly in the oven on low heat and it worked like a charm to get the cosmoline out of there.

Glad you are here.

Martin Scorsese Hits On New Plan To Stop Gun Violence....? Seriously?
Pete123 replied to waynesan's topic in General Chat
What I can't understand is how someone smart enough to be involved in that many good movies could buy in to such a foolish idea. It doesn't take calculus to determine that there are far too many guns to have any impact. -
In my mind, that isn't trolling for a sucker. The proper description would be dishonest scumbags looking to take advantage of folks who are less informed than them. I like what my buddy Bill said the other day, 'Character is how you treat people that are at a lower level than you, whether lower power, a subordinate, or someone with less knowledge than you." All of us are less informed at times. I simply have no respect for taking advantage of others.

Do you have to have satellite? I'm with AT&T DSL and don't have a commitment. Comcast may offer a commitment free deal, though I feel sure you can get a one year. Refusing to sign with threat of going elsewhere may get what you want, though you may have to change providers to get rid of the agreement.

I don't think they are offering it yet in this market. Google is notoriously tight lipped. A significant portion of the infrastructure will be in a data center down town. In the past month they were still doing construction to get fiber into the data center, thus I don't think they are operating out of that one. Having said that, they are also in another data center downtown. I haven't been in that one since Google came into the picture. So, it's possible they are offering service out of that one.

These are great ideas. Thank you.

Garufa, is there a trick to getting the first pin out? I've been hitting it really hard and it won't budge. I don't have a vice, which the guy on YouTube has.

I'm very sorry to learn about this accident. In my 30's I began having severe back pain, which culminated in surgery. It was very hard to accept that my body wasn't the same and that I couldn't do everything I did before. Here is what I learned over the years, hopefully it will help you. First, we don't need to know how the accident occurred. The only thing I will say is to let yourself off the hook if you played a part in it. We are all human. None of us can be sufficiently focused all the time. Accidents happen. Next, the most helpful thing to me was my attitude of accepting with grace things I could no longer do. The next most helpful thing I learned was that physical therapy made all the difference. I've been conscientious about my physical therapy through the years and have been able to do anything I want for a long time now. You may need an occupational therapist as well. The PT and OT have extensive knowledge in helping people learn how to do things differently than they did before due to injury. It may be that shooting magnums will need to go (but maybe not). I quit shooting them some time ago because the recoil isn't pleasant and I can do whatever I want with a 9mm or .45 ACP.

Don't get much more excited than I am right now!

Here's my take: Failing to disclose costs likely to apply in a visible area is dishonest - which is far worse the bad customer service. Putting some effort into ensuring that business emails are delivered doesn't constitute a high level of customer service - it's very, very basic and takes little effort. I buy almost everything online, including multiple purchases from about 20-25 firearms related vendors. Business emails going into my spam almost never happens. Not only is it service at the most basic level, it doesn't make good business sense as the irritate customers and lose sales. Arguing with customers that are making reasonable complaints is simply not acceptable. Any big box retailer will reprimand, if not terminate, employees that argue with customers. I don't accept poor service from big box retailers. I buy almost everything from Amazon, who has phenomenal service and good prices. Finally, I'll deal with poor customer service if I want something badly enough. Fortunately, that doesn't happen often. Having said all of this, the poster talking about accepting less for better pricing makes good sense. In my career, I have experience many times when customers are simply unwilling to pay for good or premium service. He didn't say this, though it is certainly no secret that big box retailers with poor service put most of the mom and pops, who gave great service, out of business.

Great input from both of you. Monkey's input helped me learn that it was made in 1977. Two great things from Garufa are taking the firing pin apart and how to get cosmoline off the stock. By the time I read his input I had already taken the gun apart. Here's what I did. Went to the hardware store and got a small metal pail, a 3 ft length of 4 inch PVC, an end cap and glue. The small parts are soaking in mineral spirits in the little pail. The long parts are soaking in the capped and glued PVC pipe. Tomorrow I'll have to turn the barrel over to soak the rest of it.

I bought one of the un-issued SKS's from S.O.G. Pictures are shown below. Question for the SKS buffs. The oldest stamps in the owner's manual are 1997. Was this gun made then, or is it much older and they got around to processing them then? It looks brand new. Also, the pictures don't do justice for the stock - it has a nice golden hue. The photo of the words wasn't complete. It says, 'PW ARMS REDMOND WA ZASTAVA M59/66 7.62 X 39 YUGO Now, it's time to enter the ......cosmoline zone! Here is a link to the pics: http://s300.photobucket.com/user/pete2041/library/Guns/SKS

Monkey, I'm glad you refused it. I have expertise on proper packaging for parcel shipments and they didn't package it properly. I don't know what their return / exchange policy is, though it may be that they have to take it back if you refused it. Mine came from S.O.G. the other day. You commented on my thread complaining about them, so you know what my experience was. Having said that, Classic and S.O.G. are the only ones I know of that have the un-issued ones. I read the classic website to say you may or may not get the booklet, oil can, etc.... S.O.G. states that you will get them, which I did. I'll post pics later today of the gun I rec'd as well as the 'goodies' so you can see who you want to buy from. The gun will still be coated in cosmoline. I'm taking it apart later today to remove the cosmoline and want you to see the pics before Monday when you deal with Classic.

Good to have you!

Well said. I couldn't agree more.

In the book of bad ideas, this one has a listing on the page after the one showing cell phone cases that look like a real gun. WCD didn't post a pic, so I Googled them, hoping nothing would come up. Well, I was wrong. Check it out

I'm not a duck hunter and can't speak with expertise. Through the years I've heard many folks talk about going to Arkansas to hunt ducks. I can't remember anyone talking about duck inting in TN.

What is the ATF doing down there???
Pete123 replied to WarPig's topic in National Firearms Act (NFA) Regulated
The title of this thread is, " What is the ATF doing down there???" My thinking.....Obama provided long term vacations for any workers that support gun owners in practicing their second amendment rights while telling the workers that fight our rights to work nights and weekends. -
Awesome, thanks for the info. I can keep up with a log book - that part is easy.
