  1. I'll try to make it.  Tevecca University here in Nashville is doing some awesome things in this world and they are a Nazarene school.
  2.   It's true that you didn't say anything about killing, though grouping cats with rats and mice infers it.  Having said that, when I put in the part about killing I wasn't thinking about you.
  3.   Just because people have power over animals doesn't make it ok to use it. Just because people have mental capability that animals don't have doesn't make us better. One thing I appreciate about animals is that they have the ability to hate as far as I know.   My policy is this:  I won't kill anything unless there is a good reason.  Bagging a trophy where the meat won't be consumed isn't a good reason to me. Killing pests such as birds, skunks, ground hogs, etc.... doesn't make sense to me until I try non lethal ways to get them to move along.
  4. The first few are probably familiar, but the others required some serious research. tupperware (n., adj.)—polymer-framed handgun, typically associated with Glocks. pocket warmer (n.)—handgun small enough to fit in a storage space on a gentleman’s trousers. bottom feeder (n.)—magazine-fed semi-automatic handgun. noodlemaster (n.)—shooter demonstrably accomplished at limp-wristing a handgun.     tactlberry (n.)—annoying guy or gal hanging around the range wearing the latest high-speed gear, doling out advice and never stepping up to the firing line. fabritoid (n.)—self-propagating, blinking-of-an-eye lie recited by gun-hating politicians and media until people believe it. gunackery (n.)—retail store with sweet deals on firearms. [Hey, if they can have cupcackery….this is only just desserts] glogger (n.)—gun blogger [replaces antiquated entry for firearm blogger] copmeister (n.)—shooter who feels his concealed handgun constantly in public.   and my addition:   glockster -  Member of the cult following of Glocks.
  5. Besides, last I heard, squirrel snatching isn't a shooting offense.   ;)
  6. Hey, Welcome to TGO.   This link should take you to the place to get a Benefactor membership:   http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/store/category/1-benefactor-subscriptions/   There is nothing listed when I go there - not sure whether that is because I'm already a benefactor or whether there is a system glitch.
  7.   Hey EssOne,  First, I like your new picture.  Next,  The need you are describing is part of the space I represent for larger companies.   I would recommend CrashPlan over Carbonite and would recommend either of them over the free sites or an external hard drive used by itself.   The big thing that CrashPlan/Carbonite bring that the others don't is that they do a complete backup of your computer and it is updated every time you are connected to the Internet.  Your data is valuable.  In my view, it is worth paying for a site specifically designed to protect it.   One time I had an issue first thing in the morning and was able to get a file from the previous evening.   The reason I like Crash Plan better than Carbonite is that Carbonite was a resource hog when I dealt with this.  In other words, Carbonite makes your pc very slow when it is backing up.  CrashPlan allows you to lower the amount of system resources it will use when you are using your pc.   CrashPlan, and probably Carbonite, has versioning.  This is important.  Let's say your computer gets eaten up by a virus and it's so bad that it can't be removed, or doing so will cost a fortune.  Versioning allows you to go back to a version from a day or two before you got the virus.     I also recommend using an external hard drive.  The key is to remember to back it up consistently.  Let's say your hard drive completely and totally crashes.  Think about how long it will take to download all of that data from CrashPlan.  It's great to know that you have it if needed, though restoring from an external hard drive is much faster.    I also like having both the cloud solution and an external hard drive as you have it in two places, called redundancy in the industry.   Hope this helps.
  8. Big K - It's on Netflix, not TV.   Runco, Yes, that's the right title.   For those who aren't familiar with Netflix's streaming service.  It's $8.75 per month and is like a huge movie / TV show library.  You don't have to wait for shows to come on TV. They are always there.   There are many, many great military history documentaries on Netflix and Amazon.  Amazon Prime members have Amazon Streaming included in their pricing.   Here are some of the good documentaries from Netflix:   WWII   WWII: Final Days Hitler & the Nazis Great Raids of WWII (really good) The Goebbels Experiment WWII in HD The Ghost Army Mengele, The Angel of Death Battle of Britian:  The Real Story (really good)   Vietnam   Vietnam in HD Helicoptor Missions:  Vietnam Firefight We were Soldiers, Hollywood movie about our first big battle, more American deaths than any other battle in Vietnam     Afganistan   Restrepo Korengal
  9. I have a lot of interest in WWII and have watched a ton of documentaries, most of which has been around for a long time.   I came across a new one on Netflix streaming that was awesome - thought I would share so those interested can see it.     At Netflix, search on 'WWII from Space'
  10. Thanks David, that fixed it.   On "Other", "Just items I follow" had been activated and that was the issue.
  11. I appreciate your caution and think you'll have no trouble moving to a .38 or 9mm.   The first question to consider is what you want to use the gun for.  Shooting fun?  Self defense? both?   I'm a fan of the 9mm for several reasons.  People will debate self defense rounds all day long.  Most of the experts agree that a 9mm with modern defensive ammo is plenty.   9mm ammo is probably the least expensive center fire cartridge, so you can shoot more when training and having fun.   I'm not a revolver fan.  Many people love them - though I prefer semi automatics.   A striker fired pistol would be a great place to start.  The key is to find one that you like and that fits your hand well.  The indoor range I use lets people rent three for under $50, though we are in Nashville and you are in Chattanooga.   I really like my S&W M&P 9mm.   All of the major manufacturers have an offering in this area.   Now, to the most important part.  Training.  Responsible gun ownership, especially relative to self defense, requires a lot of training.   The carry permit class is only a start. I think trainer Randy Harris, whose TGO name is 'Cruel Hand Luke' is in Chattanooga.  I don't know him personally, though have read positive comments about his training.     Randy Harris Suarez International Tier 1 Staff Instructor NRA Certified Instructor Tennessee State Handgun Carry Permit Instructor Glock Factory Certified Armorer Master Class IDPA Stock Service Pistol Gung Ho Chuan Association   Another part of training, which is often neglected, is when shooting someone is justified.  I recently went to a five hour workshop here in Nashville put on by an attorney who has done nothing other than firearms self defense for the past twenty years.     One of the things I learned is that a self defense claim is black and white.  Either it exists or it doesn't.  If it doesn't, then what you think is self defense is actually murder.    There are five conditions that have to be met for a valid self defense claim.  The tactic used by prosecutors is to find the weakest of the five in an individual case and to attack it.  If they can convince a jury that one of the five doesn't exist, then they have won and the shooter goes to jail.   The key is to ensure that your case doesn't go to trial and the key to that is to be strong with all five factors.     Just going to the class isn't enough,  incorporating the concepts requires training.     Anyway, I'm glad you are having fun with your firearms journey.
  12.   One of my friends works for a company that has a location in Mexico.  The other day he gets a call that a pc is acting up and they can't get critical data off of it.  Turned out it was running Windows NT.  The pc was that old too.
  13. My condolences to the officer and his family.   I was really struck by the cowardice of the attacker.....walked up behind him and shot him.
  14. ok, I was trying to be nice by saying the glasses look like what old people wear.  As Dolomite and the member whose name can't be spelled in English have said, they make you look like an idjitatic dufuswad.  I love the reference to them being birth control glasses, meaning a guy can be assured that he'll never, ever, ever get laid by a woman who has seen him wearing them.   Dolomite,  I wasn't clear on part of your comment.  Are you saying that the lenses I'm getting in my new glasses will meet ANSI Z87.1? These are glasses I'll wear every day.  They aren't safety glasses, but rather regular glasses with lenses made of this impact resistant material.
  15. As I'm thinking this through, I want to learn more about mausers.     Getting a Mosin is pretty straight forward.  I got one for $150, it was made in 1939, so it almost certainly saw action on the Eastern Front.  It was returned to the factory a re-worked, though it captures the piece of history I was after.   Moving over to the German side causes things to become more complicated.  They are more expensive, there are a bunch of variants, there is a lot more info needed to make a wise purchase, etc...
  16. The landing page for TGO is the page listing all the forums. There is a 'view new content' link that normally shows all posts from all forum topics. Since the OS upgrade, clicking on that link takes me to a listing of some of the threads I've started.   My Macbook Pro downloaded a new version of the OS yesterday, version 10.10.5.  I'm using the Chrome browser version Version 44.0.2403.157 (64-bit) which is the latest version.   It's doing the same thing with Safari.   Here is what I've done to try and find a fix:   Re-start Chrome Erase a week's cache - everything was erased other than 'content licesnes' Re-booted the computer   My best guess is that the forum software from IP.Board hasn't had a chance to update whatever is needed to stay current with Chrome for Mac, though that is just a guess.          Any help resolving this would be appreciated.
  17. Luke, not too long ago you started a thread about safety glasses over regular glasses.  Hopefully, you haven't gotten your new glasses yet.   I've come across new info since that thread died down.   First, I received an NRA Tactical catalog in the mail.  They have safety glasses specifically designed to fit over glasses for about $20.  They look cool in the catalog.  I had a pair a few years ago.  They are huge.  They look like the glasses you see on very old people some times that offer very large range of vision and don't let the slightest ray of sunlight in - I guess they wear them after some kind of surgery.   Then, earlier this week I had my eyes checked and needed a new pair of glasses.  I commented that one pair would cover more of my eye and that I'm a firearms enthusiast.  She went on the say that a new type of lenses plastic (or whatever they make them out of) was developed in the first gulf war that is far stronger from a protection point of view that anything else.   They only cost $20 more than the standard, though she ultimately gave them to me for the same price.   She said that you can't call them official safety glasses as the lenses I need are .5 mm thick and official safety glasses have to be 3 mm thick.  Though, she did say that it would take a lot to pierce them.   So, hopefully that will help out.
  18. Garufa,  I'm thinking you may have the best idea.  I have plenty of guns to shoot and I can afford a German K98 within the next year.   Would you expect that I can get one in the $1100 - $1250 range?   Again, thanks to all the posters - this input has been great.
  19. Two tech support guys sit close to me. I heard him on a call yesterday. I believe the following image correctly portrays what he wanted to say.
  20. Some desktop support phone reps sit by me. Yesterday one of them was on a call. I believe the image below says what he wanted to say.

  21. I appreciate all the input guys.  The stores Luke mentioned are close to me so I'll check them out.     More comments are definitely appreciated.
  22. Guys,   I would appreciate some input.   I've always been interested in the Eastern front from WWII.  I have a great Mosin.   The K98 Mauser is the other gun I want.  Sadly, getting a K98 isn't as straight forward as a Mosin.   So, here is what I want:   My budget doesn't allow for a collector grade gun - prefer sub $400, definitely sub $500. A German model with matching numbers that is beat up, but still shoots reasonably accurately would be my first choice. I don't want a Mitchell's Mauser. A turn in from a GI that brought one home would be great. A Russian capture that hasn't been screwed up would be great A gun that isn't german, but is very close to the K98 would be ok   I think you'll get the idea by now.  It would be great to have a gun with historical relevance, though the budget may not allow that.   Empire Arms has one with the following description:   'GERMAN Model 98k Mauser bolt-action rifle # 1180m (8x57) mfg. by Mauser (code S/42G) in 1935. A Russian capture with no matching numbers in Very Good condition with 80% or better reblued metal but surfaces exhibit pinprick light pitting. Bore is rough but strong and shootable. All-milled parts, missing cleaning rod (we sell nice reproduction rods for $12.00)  and has leather (Yugo) sling with buckle. Buttstock is solid walnut with sanded area on left side but has clear eagle cartouche on right side.  PHOTO . . . $450. '   Not knowing the market, that seems a little pricey.  I definitely want a gun that is reasonably accurate with iron sights. what the heck does "Bore is rough but strong and shootable" mean?   I found at least one reference to Empire Arms, saying that the guy is expensive, but what he advertises is what you get.   Any input of what comes closest to matching my wants considering my budget would be awesome.
  23.   I'm not surprised that no one noticed.  I host a local tv show here in Nashville focused on entrepreneurs and small business.  It takes complete focus by all involved.  The people being interviewed are usually nervous and are trying to remember what they wanted to say.     I'm completely focused on helping them deliver a message that is good for them and good for the audience.  Time is limited, so I have to focus on helping them make the needed points with the allotted time.  The director is talking to me through one of those secret agent ear things with timing instructions.    The director is focused on the settings on the equipment.  The cameraman has to operate four cameras, keeping up with when they need to change.
  24. I think Redd has the best input.
  25.   Above got me thinking:   That the McRibb is actually pork
