  1. Are the Sako's that much better than the VKT's?
  2. That was really funny!!
  3. So, I got my Fin M39 yesterday. I was loaded with cosmoline.  I spent the evening getting her taken apart and didn't have to look at directions - was able to remember and figure out, got all the metal soaking in mineral spirits and the stock wrapped tightly in shop cloth and it's in the car trunk roasting in a black plastic bag.   Trying to figure out how to improve the evening and not coming up with anything.  :P
  4.   I'll get them posted this weekend....been meaning to do so.
  5.   I enjoyed it as well.  We all complain about cosmoline.  Other than that stench it isn't that bad.     What I really enjoyed was my new SKS.  Once I got all the cosmoline off the stock, I realized that they didn't sand the stock or put finish on it....must have been a little too much vodka the night before in Yugoslavia when they made it.   I was a bit miffed at first, but refinished the stock myself and I really enjoyed that.  I'm thinking about refinishing the laminate stock on my Mosin and it doesn't even need it.
  6. Nice, Beautiful baby!
  7. Luke,   I'm in an apartment as well and just went through the whole cosmoline process on two rifles.   I lay cardboard on top of my kitchen table and am careful not to spill anything.  I go out on the deck for any dirty work.  The cardboard has to be swapped out every so often, other than that everything is good.   One other thing, I have a cosmoline removal setup, which is a bucket for parts and a 3 foot piece of four inch pipe with a cap on one end filled with mineral spirits.  I'll need the kit through the weekend and then you are welcome to borrow it if you like - just have to figure out transport without spilling.  I have extra cardboard as well.     I'm in Hermitage which isn't too far from your neck of the woods.
  8. I don't  know why EssOne was banned.  The issues related to making statements relative to police occurred before I was here.
  9. Here's where I am with this.  Below are three bullet points from an earlier post I made: Anything relating to religion.  We all believe what we believe.  I've seen and taken part in several of these discussions and have never seen anyone truly change where they are coming from. Anything related to Muslims. Anything related to law enforcement and whether an officers action's were justified.  We have LEOs on this forum that come here to have good time.  When everyone starts second guessing LEO actions they don't feel welcome.   All trouble on this forum that I'm aware of comes under these three areas.    We have three moderators on this forum that donate a lot of time and make little or no money.  I back them 100% when they make a call.  Personally, I don't care whether folks like the calls our moderators make.  They are doing the best they can to make this forum great.   At least one person has been banned.  This is the time to shut up and do as Dolomite has asked before there are further bans.
  10.   Luke,  They shoot the 8 mm Mauser round.  I haven't been able to find any of surplus ammo.  The Gander Mnt in Mt. Juliet also has Yugo Mauser's.   Also, I know you love Mosin's.....wanted to make sure you know about Classic Firearms getting a bunch of Finnish M39 Mosin's.  So many people ordered them that they stopped selling them, though they will start in the next couple of days.  I want a Sako hand select.
  11. I think Dolomite makes a great point.  There are a few topics which I try very hard to avoid on this forum as they are they ones that I have seen lead to anger, name calling, etc...  I have contributed to the problem on everything listed and am trying to learn from my mistakes. Anything relating to religion.  We all believe what we believe.  I've seen and taken part in several of these discussions and have never seen anyone truly change where they are coming from. 12. bucnball,   They are selling fast.  As of now you can't get a Sako or a hand select.  You can't complete your order without using an FFL they have on file.   I couldn't use my regular folks as they are in Classic's system.  I'm glad I called the FFL before placing the order as the first one I called charges $50.
  13. I gots to have me one.....they are selling fast.
  14. Gander Mnt in Mt. Juliet has surplus rifle crates for sale.  I'm not sure if they are Mosin, though I would guess that most of them look alike.  You could always call before driving out there.
  15. Here is what Dennis Kroh of Empire Arms has to say about this.  He is definitely a mil surp kind of guy and has been in business with mil surp for 20 years:   http://www.empirearms.com/clean.htm
  16. All I can say is two words:  Apple Mac
  17. Welcome.  Glad you are coming.
  18. Glad you are hear.  I'll second the motion for The OK corral.     I'm from GA - grew up in Athens.  You a Dawgs fan?
  19. Academy Sports in Mt. Juliet received a big load of .22 LR today.  Pricing from $2.50 to $4.00 per box for regular.  2 box limit.   I paid a little more than usual and got the Remington's @ $8.00 for 100 because you can get two boxes of those.   My best thinking would be that you can get ammo into the early afternoon tomorrow - had a good bit of it.   Gander Mnt. - only has match at $10 / box   Walmart in Mt Juliet didn't have any and said they only get it once per month.
  20. Good for her!
  21. Pictured below is an automatic knife my grandfather bought in the 1920s.   It was in really bad shape by the time we came across it.   Who might be able to get this thing in working order?  or, do you have suggestions that I can do myself?   Due to sentimental value I would really like to get it repaired.     http://s300.photobucket.com/user/pete2041/library/Guns/Knife   http://s300.photobucket.com/user/pete2041/media/Guns/Knife/IMG_0506_zpsk7jrp1cp.jpg.html?sort=3&o=1
  22. I'm trying to see the problem here.  I thought everybody was this way.
  23. Welcome to TGO! We are glad to have you. Maroonandwhite, there is something wrong about your Bulldog avatar. Here is what a real Bulldog looks like:
  24.   This reminds me of rescuing a very rough looking pit bull mix and her pups.  Finding a home for the pups was easy - but she was old and didn't look so good. We tried to keep her, but her prey drive towards the cats was so strong we just couldn't do it.   The picture of the cowboys and cats is from a funny commercial from EDS   Here's a link to the video:   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pk7yqlTMvp8
