  1. i love the two tone.
  2. Awesome, wish I was out there with you.
  3. I have to triple the thoughts not to sell them.  They need to go down through the generations.  That colt pocket pistol is completely awesome.
  4. The very best place I know of is The OK Corral in Woodbury.  They have a three sided pit where you can go and let your inner Rambo let loose.  It's a stretch, though you could go with a training partner, set up a few targets and train.   Unless they've changed, The Nashville Armory allows shotguns.  It has to be 00 buckshot and can't be steel.  You might call ahead to make sure nothing has changed.  One thing about The Armory - there is a line about six inches above the top of the target.  If you shoot above the line it is $8 per hole, so you'll want to watch for that - though it would never be an issue if you are in control of your body and gun.
  5. All of the parts match, with the number being 2383   Firing pin,  has 2383.  About an inch toward the end of the firing pin that strikes the round is the letter 'e'   Bolt - the top of the bolt has 2383 as you have seen.  There is a number '1' on the underside.   Cocking Piece - stamped with 2383 as well as an 'e'
  6. I have a nice pair of Peltors.  I always use ear plugs with them as my hearing is pretty sensitive.  The advantage of the $80 Peltor's I have is not that they provide more hearing protection,  but that they let you hear people talking, thus with plain ear muffs and ear plugs I can't hear and with the Peltor's and ear plugs I can.   Also, I've noticed that product reviews on Amazon for gun products are often much higher than the same product at a gun specific e-tailer.   I attribute that based more folks that aren't really serious about guns get things from Amazon, but that more picky folks on other sites grade them harder.
  7. Glad you are here.  Thanks for your service.  I was in supply chain and logistics for many years and loved it.   You'll know this, though other members won't.  One of the primary reasons that Walmart took over the world is that they did supply chain far, far better than competitors which allowed lower prices.
  8. So, btq96r and I hit the range today. It was awesome...hardly any folks there. Here is some of his handy work at 50 yards: and this: Here is what I did, 50 yards with iron sites: Which I did with: Also had some fun with:
  9. Apparently some folks have in     Apparently there are folks who do have interest as my initial thread was quoted or referred to multiple times.
  10. Seems like I caused a stir.  I really don't think Phil would break the law - he's a good guy and transfers are a big piece of his business.  One day he had sealed cans of Federal .22 LR and was selling them for $21 or $22 dollars - so he's clearly not looking to stick it to anyone.   As someone on the thread guessed, I've done a lot of business with Bellshire for transfers as well as some business unrelated to firearms, so Phil and his daughter Lauren know who I am. One time I had a FFL transfer come in via a different gun store.  I had to fill out the long paperwork.  It's a real pain because if you make one mistake you have to start over.  That's nothing against the business - the ATF currently reports to O'Bama.   What I was trying to say is that he has some software.  I still have to go in and review it and sign the paperwork.  Most of the form is already filled out - he has a website or software that fills it out.  Again, I still have to sign it and have no doubt that I'm responsible for what's in the paperwork.     I don't think anyone would accuse him of being Mr. Computer, so I have to think this software is readily available.  Personally, I have no problem with him saving my info because I never get through one of the forms without making a mistake.  I feel sure he would remove it if I asked.   Of course, he does the background check every time.
  11. I got one of them from SOG.  Here's a link to some pics once cleaned up:   http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/91166-my-sks/
  12.   Two words:  Bellshire Hardware.  $20 per transfer.     After your first transfer you are in their system.  You can call ahead when you head up there and they'll run your background while you are in transit.
  13. Hozzie,   You make a good point.  Re-sizing every pic is a pain.     Photobucket will take large pics, though it slows everything down - a lot.  Does Picasaweb handle the big ones more effectively?  Another problem I had was that the TGO website wouldn't accept links for the big pics.     The point I'm trying to make is that I'll give Picasa a shot.
  14.   I was dealing with this and figured it out.  I posted the problem and solution in a new thread, hoping that it will get better visibility.
  15. Someone recently started a thread on trouble with Photo Bucket.  I was having significant trouble as well and figured out what to do.  Instead of adding to that thread I started a new one in hopes that all who are feeling Photo Bucket pain will see this.   The symptoms were that it took for ever to upload, move around the site and TGO often rejected pics I had worked so hard to post.   Turns out the problem was that the size of the picture files were too big.  Our cell phone cameras are fairly high def, which makes the files big.   Once I reduced the size of the pics all troubles went away.   Not sure how to reduce them?  Fear not, here are links for PC and Mac.  I have a Mac, so I know these work.   For a Mac:   Get the photo on your Mac. If you use Mac's Photos option you can click on the photo, click edit, and crop and or improve the pic. You can also go into Finder, find the pic, double click on it and it will open in Preview. Go File, Export.  The next screen has a place at the bottom where you can reduce the file size.  Reduce it do to around 75-150 Kb.   For a pc   http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/resize-a-picture-using-paint   I hope this helps.  Post any Mac questions and I'll try to help.
  16. Cool.  I've become interested in vintage military weapons and am enjoying learning about them.
  17. They would prefer to leave CT and come south.  After being up there so long it isn't that easy - they have skilled workers that don't want to move, etc...  I'm sure a support industry has developed, similar to the one that has developed in Nashville since Nissan moved here.   They are moving down here as they can.  We're getting the new Beretta plant, SC has gotten one, I think Remington just announced a plant in Al.

    My SKS

Yeah, it came with the cleaning kit, leather pouches, sling and all that stuff, just not in the pics.  It has the dust cover, though the bold is open so it might not show well in the pic.
  19. Downtown there is a section called 'Broadway', which is the name of the street.  That's a place to go to.  I'm sure there are Blue's bars down there, though most are country music.  There are a zillion bars as well as other tourist places.  Printer's Alley is within walking distance and is pretty cool.   Andrew Jackson, whose face is on the $20, lived here.  If interested in US history his home is a great place to visit.  There is also a civil war fort down in Franklin.  It hasn't been rebuilt, though all the trenches, etc... are still there.   From a food perspective, Nashville has a local favorite called Hot Chicken.  It isn't for the feint of heart, so wouldn't be good unless you like super hot food. I think they coat it in egg and milk and then somehow get a 1/2 inch exterior of cayenne pepper on it before frying.   For birthday cake, check out Gigi's cupcakes.  They are starting to franchise, though I think they are still only local.   I hope you have a great time.

    My SKS

Yeah, it being single shot as outlined in the other thread.
  21. If you count the end of the receiver as the point where the piece of metal with 'BCD' is the length to the end of the barrel is 23 inches.   It does have a slot for a hood.   What do you make of the bolt having 2383 stamped twice and 1056 in a different area?   Finally,  what are your thoughts about de-Bubbarizing the gun?
  22. Yes, they actually sent me an email asking for feedback, which surprised me coming from them.   I didn't mention you in the email, but remembered that you ordered a hand select and didn't get one.

    My SKS

I got on of the un-issued SKS's recently. I wound up refinishing the stock and had a lot of fun with that - refinishing stocks is now a hobby. This one is a bit shiny for my taste, though I can change that moving forward. This is my first SKS. I put 2-3 rounds through it yesterday and got a bullseye at 50 yards with one of them.
  24. Garufa,  speaking of the grenade launcher, where can you get the grenades?  I have a few neighbors that get on my last nerve.
  25. For those who missed getting a Mosin from Classic, they are putting the second batch on sale tomorrow at noon Eastern.   I would suggest being one of the first as it wouldn't surprise me if it takes their website down.   Empire Arms, who has a great reputation, will have some going on his website tomorrow.  He costs a little more, but doesn't sell anything he hasn't personally inspected.  I deleted the email, though this his were priced comparably and he tells you who the manuf is.   SOG has some also.
