Here's how I handled this. I took detailed pics of each firearm. I have an iPhone, so it isn't hard and the pics automatically backup in the cloud. I recorded everything in an Excel spreadsheet. Next, I didn't read every response on this thread, though did read a couple of negatives regarding insurance companies. I don't put up with crap if I am buying a policy. I use Statefarm. My agent, who is awesome, told me about their 'personal articles' policy. I read where some guns need an appraisal. He said I didn't need to do that, but needed to be able to show reasonable proof of the value, which took me to Internet to see where prices are. While I was at it, I added some computer equipment to the policy. Firearms insurance is expensive as you pay for the risk of what the gun could do. At least, that's how State Farm evaluates it. A comment above referred to a written appraisal for anything over $5,000. I don't have any individual guns with a value exceeding that, so I can't say for sure. Many of my guns are civil war guns. I took the very detailed pics so that in the event of a claim, I would have proof. With old guns, one stamp in the wood or metal can make a very big difference in value. Of course that doesn't apply to most modern guns.

I think the two tone guns are sharp. I also like non black guns. The ARs with black metal and tan or olive colored plastic ware are cool looking.

I think the big threat to Wal-Mart is Amazon. The Wall Street Journal said a driving issue was movement from buying at a store to buying on the Internet.

I'll have to get some super glue. The Indian Head logo came off my Model 10

It may take a while for them to change it everywhere. They have changed it, probably quietly due to pressure that the old one offended someone.

I really like Stones River. There are other great ones, Stone's River is about a 15 minute drive for me. $8 per visit. Open Fri, Sat and Sun. Fridays are great if you can go then as it is less crowded. Great range officers. Up to 200 yards for long guns. There used to be a very fussy lady that was a pistol range officer, though I don't think she is there any longer. OK Corral is great, though it is a stretch to get there. No range officer, though one wasn't needed the day I was there - people behaved. The have a three sided pit that is great for ARs and Shotguns and a great pistol range.

Glad you are here.

Comms, I love what you said above. I think you are speaking to what your innate strengths are. Remember to make arrangements for that event I mentioned the 27th from 7:30 - 9:00 am. There will be several folks that can really help you out.

Makes me think of 'Christmas Story' and the official Red Ryder, carbine action, two-hundred shot range model air rifle!

Don't forget Galaxy Quest - he did a great job on that as well.

You'll do very well. A couple of things impressed me with CommsNBombs. A battalion commander (Leads about 1000 folks) asked him if he new how a piece of communications equipment worked that was in a truck. Comms was able to impress him to the point that the commander asked him to be his right hand man for all of the communications systems. That tells me that he is sharp and gets things done. Also, he's much closer to the beginning of his career than many of us. Leaders have been concerned about millennial's relative to work ethic and ability to accept criticism. It's clear to me that neither of these would be an issue. Next, there is significant disconnect between IT and the business units, which is due in large part to differences in the way most techies and business people think and make decisions. I think he can grow into a role where he bridges the gap and helps both the business units and IT get what they need. Tech leaders that excel at this will be able to do anything they want to do. I wanted to meet him in person before I start connecting him with my customers, who are tech leaders and have no concerns at all.

I'm rather disappointed in our numbers. Kind of like being ranked dead last for quality of education.

Just like No_One said - decades of crappy leadership cost them big time.

Recoil Management, especially for those of us that are aging.

Yeah, the Mosin's can speak to you. Greg, thanks for the heads up. -
Recoil Management, especially for those of us that are aging.
Pete123 posted a topic in General Chat
Many of us on TGO are 50 or older and have starting having more aging related health issues, though the topic really applies to anyone. Earlier this week my left shoulder, which I shoot with, dislocated. Even if my shoulder were fine, I don't like heavy recoil. Next point is that I love the old military bolt action rifles more than anything. They all have powerful rounds and several of them have straight stocks, which appears to send most of the force directly into the shoulder. One of these days I'll start reloading and can manage recoil with lighter loads. I expect that is probably the best solution. For now I use a wearable recoil pad, which is pictured below. It's made by caldwell and costs $20-25 dollars. The last time I went to the range I took an M39 (Mosin family) and a K98 in 8mm. I shot between 35 and 40 rounds and only stopped because we wanted to shoot pistols as well. Recoil was a complete non issue. I use the Caldwell model with 1/2 inch of foam. They have one with 1/4 inch. I would recommend the thinnest one that does the job. I'll wind up getting a small one. The reason I recommend thinest that will work is because I'm working on becoming a good shot with a rifle. The pad gets in the way and makes it more challenging to use the same position every time. Having said that, it enables me to achieve what I want and allows me to shoot without worrying about my shoulder. -
Interestingly, I posted the article because I mis-read it to say that he was consistently hitting three inch plates at 1000 yards - not three foot plates. 221 Fireball, thanks for the recoil advice. I shoot for enjoyment and don't enjoy heavy recoil, not to mention its tendency to cause flinching. When I move to my next accuracy rifle I'll take a hard look at the 6.5 Creedmoor unless something better comes along by then.

Here are a few more thoughts. I didn't really communicate my message well yesterday with my first post on this thread yesterday. I really meant to say that I feel sure that Runco got the idea after a couple of folks said that he shouldn't have posted Hickock45s name and that further agreement wasn't needed. I'm guessing that we are all correct to various degrees. I get the feel that the success of the videos, having the ability to profit from the and becoming a public figure is a new experience for him. I'm about two years in with my business and the way I position us in the marketplace has changed and evolved a lot. As with anything a person hasn't experienced before, there are mistakes, changes in direction, etc.... As the videos have grown, he's become somewhat famous. Think about Hollywood and Nashville's country music. Many, many folks want to hit the big time. A few do who then come to live in a fish bowl where anything they do is exposed to the public. They don't like it, though it comes with the territory. So, here is where I am now. I won't use his name because he would rather that folks don't. I'm happy for him that his videos have done well. I will be the first to say that there is nothing bad whatever about him making profit from the videos. I'm also happy for him to have this new adventure, which can probably be fun, exciting, invigorating, confusing, frustrating, etc.... all at the same time.

Garufa, the goober with the keyboard you are referring to is Hickock45 himself. Several posts have said that he doesn't publish his name, which is not correct. Check out his everpedia page and tell me he isn't using that as a marketing vehicle. Even if it weren't, everpedia is clear that they will remove anyone's name who ask for that. Public figures, which he is by his choice and compensation, are not anonymous.
