  1. Sounds like you have come across some interesting things.
  2.   Guys,   There sure is a lot of discussion on this when Chris posted the easiest fix, and did so in less than 25 letters.
  3. It gets worse.  I looked at their page.  The restocking fee is 25%.  There is an additional 15% fee if you opened the box.   It's almost comical.  They want you to be happy and will take the gun back if you get an RMA, but it is 25% for restocking and another 15% if you opened the box.  Yes, they will take it back and refund only 55% of what you paid.   That gun costs a lot of money.  I don't think this outfit will be able to say, 'it doesn't work like that'.     I'm thinking there must be some kind of law here, along the lines of the following example.  If I write you a check and it bounces, you have every right to expect me to make it good.  If I don't make it good, you can have me arrested.  The more money that is involved, the more serious my bad check is.   We are talking $1400 here.
  4. No, you are not out of line and I'm glad you shared this with us.  The gun you bought is a $1400 gun.   Will they take the gun back if you don't pay an additional $300 for another gun.   If so, I would do that.  If not, I would challenge this with the credit card company as a somewhat fraudulent transaction.  You didn't get what you paid for and they need to take it back no questions asked.   Also, before returning it, I would make them agree in writing to the terms of the return.     I would call the credit card company either way.  They don't like to get involved in these types of things and you may have to press them.
  5. I didn't realize that they have been business for 500 years, owned by the same family the whole time.
  6. I'm thinking hand written thank you note and then be on the watch for when she might need help with something.
  7. wow, sucks that it happened the day you got your stamp.
  8. Yeah, I read the article on Foxnews.  This guy doesn't know anything about guns.   He said that being shot by .45 acp is guaranteed death - you bleed out in minutes.
  9. I'm going to push back a little on the comments that pricing is high on these guns.  I think these are a great deal at $350, even with a cracked stock of light rust.   The price seems high if you were into C&R guns when these sold for $70 or $80, though times have changed.  My M39, which was $420 just as nice as my really nice K98 and 1903 A3.
  10. Here's what makes the M39s special.  The good folks in Finland took the Russian Mosin design and perfected it.  At least that is my opinion.  My Mosin 91/30 is rough.  My Sako M39 is a very nice rifle.   Also, Classic's prices on the M39s are less than any one else I have seen.
  11. Just got an email from Classic Firearms that they have some M39s whose pricing is being reduced by $100 due to a cracked stock or light rusting.
  12. That old boy is an accident waiting to happen.
  13. This goes to show you that badass can come in small packages. Look at his height relative to the rifle. Simo "White Death" Hayha, sniper during The Winter War between Finland and the Soviet Union. Most of you probably already know that he is the greatest sniper of all time. One for the ladies. If she were your girl friend, she isn't the type that you want to piss off. She is now an anti-poacher in Africa. Special Forces in Vietnam. I tried to think of a way to say these guys aren't badass and just couldn't come up with anything.
  14. Chesty Puller, highly decorated Marine. Remember the SKS should be the State Gun of TN thread? Remember my comments about the bayonet? I rest my case! Well known in badass circles, Lieutenant-Colonel John Malcolm Thorpe Fleming "Jack" Churchill, DSO & Bar, MC & Bar was a British Army officer who fought throughout the Second World War armed with a longbow, bagpipes, and a basket-hilted Scottish broadsword. This one speaks for itself. Stage Coach Mary. Rest assured, if she was still alive she could beat the crap out of you.
  15. Omega makes a very good point.  I'm not a Remington guy and thus haven't bought something and been burned.   Hopefully, the leadership has recognized that they just about ran the company into the ground with cost cutting measures and that they only way out is to fix that - and to make that decision because they think it makes good sense financially.   For me personally,  the Remington brands are no go's until I'm hearing a lot of positive about the quality improvements.  Springfield, Ruger, Savage, Mossberg, S&W, etc..... have a great balance of cost and quality with one or more of their product lines, thus we don't have to get Remington's.
  16. I get my American Rifleman in print copy.  I looked for this article online and couldn't find it.   Here are the highlights:   Remington realizes that that quality has been bad, which has resulted in significantly lower sales. They seem to be consolidating manufacturing to their new Huntsville, AL facility.  One of the reasons they chose it is because of the quantity of engineers and machinists used to aero space level quality. Here's the most important part.  The new CEO acknowledges that quality has been poor.  He also says that the problems haven't been fixed, that they are making progress and that it is a priority. The machining in Huntsville is all new. The original plant is also upgrading machinery, though they also have a lot of old machinery.
  17. I appreciate any frustration you are feeling.  A lot of it would go away if you are able to get an FFL.  The big challenge in getting an FFL is getting local authorities to to grant zoning if you aren't in a currently zoned area.   Not sure if you want to pursue that.  If so, you are much more likely to get zoning if you limit your activities so that you aren't buying and selling guns.  They actually use the term 'gunsmiths license'.     Interestingly, you will find that The ATF is incredibly helpful.   You can get them on the phone and they will walk you through what is needed.  They will also coach you on what to say to the zoning folks.  I would imagine that a lot depends on where you live.    I'm in an apartment and chose not to pursue one because I can't imagine that the apartment owners would cooperate.   The license doesn't cost that much.   I don't want to make it sound easy.  Many on TGO would like to have an FFL and few of us do - the choke point being the zoning.
  18. I think this is sad.  You have a young guy trying to have good clean fun that made a mistake that cost him his leg.  I don't know if they can re-attach legs, but I hope they did if they could.

  20. I've spent some time with Comms in person.  My take is that he is very young and hasn't had enough life experience to know that some things are better left unsaid.  The comments that got him banned were dangerous hate speech with an endorsement of murder of ones political opponents and I agree with the ban.  I think they were the words of a kid spouting off at the mouth about something he doesn't really understand.  I don't think those words are how he really feels.   While I agree with the ban, I wish that hadn't been necessary.  I think he is a good person.   There have been several comments about his other comments.  The truth is this.  This forum is full of ego and testosterone.  He isn't a special case there.     I try to stay away from the political, religious and Muslim posts.
  21. There are so many things in this pic pointing to a trip to the burn unit. Make sure you notice the Budweiser cans used to build this thing.
  22. Bass Reeves, shown above, was legendary.  He was born into slavery and didn't let that hold him back.   The real-life Django: The legendary African-American Wild West marshal who arrested 3,000 outlaws and killed 14 men Bass Reeves was born a slave in 1838 and later broke from his owner to live among Native Americans Reeves became a Deputy U.S. Marshal in 1875 at the age of 38 During his 32-year career as a Deputy Marshal he arrested 3,000 felons, killed 14 men and was never shot
  23. 10 points for xSubSailor - that is the Dalton gang.  One of them, Emmett, survived, having been shot 23 times.
  24. Of course, if we are going to have outlaws, we need some lawmen as well. Who better to start the law posts than The Texas Rangers. Below: August 5, 1953 Ira Aten the last Texas Ranger and the survivor of a vanished era died. Born in 1862 to a father that was a minister he had a great respect for justice. Aten joined the Rangers at 20 years old. Below: Texas Rangers George Black and J.M. Britton. Both served in Company B of the Frontier Battalion after the Civil War. Below: Texas Rangers, 1885
