Awesome!

Thanks Peejman. It took a lot of work to get it in this shape. Just as important as what you can see in the pics is what you can't see. Obviously, the rust and corrosion have to go. Rust and corrosion aren't the only things to worry about. Everything that can damage the sword, both what you can and can't see is gone and it's been sealed with a special wax. This sword bayonet will look like it does now for hundreds, maybe thousands of years as long whoever touches it uses gloves and the wax is re-applied once or twice a year as it eventually evaporates.

What you are saying makes sense. I learned about this by studying writing from Dennis Duvall, who was curator of the world's largest private firearms collection. You are correct that it is expensive. The soap I use costs $90 for a pint. It's concentrated, though dilution only yields a quart and a half.

NPR attacks Katie Couric's Anti-gun Documentary
Pete123 replied to Moped's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Changing gears just a little, I think she is feeling some heat. The publish issued and apology that was a total non-apology. Now, Katie has taken responsibility while blaming it on someone else, but still taking responsibility. Even CNN, who hates guns, printed Katies 'I'm responsible but not really' article. -
I noticed something striking as I have learned how to preserve and care for my Civil War firearms and equipment. The materials and components of museum style preservation and care are completely different from how we care for modern arms with one exception - the use of penetrating oil. With museum style care, the goal is both to protect the value of the item as well as set it up to be appreciated by others for hundreds of years to come. It's very easy to destroy the items value with modern gun materials and procedures. Often, the only way to determine whether an item is real or fake is by the patina, which is the one thing that can't be faked. I've just It's very important to me to preserve the history associated with the item. Below are two before and after pics of a sword bayonet I've just worked on. Notice that both the hilt (fancy word for the part you grip) and the blade look much better, but the history is still there. I used these pics as the hilt on this sword bayonet is brass. I could have cleaned that brass to look like the brass on a gun purchased this year. That would completely mess it up for me as it would 'remove all the history'. Some of you will remember getting on me about messy with historical gun stocks. Once that sunk in I really got it.

Wicked Bayonet - 1860s - 1870s Era
Pete123 replied to Pete123's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
More info.... ‘Sword Bayonet’ is the proper term for the pics below. I haven’t been able to completely identify it. It is very similar to the French French Model 1866 "Chassepot" Yataghan Sword Bayonet. The primary difference it the crossguard. I think this one may be a Fench model, though the crossguard is different and it doesn’t have marks on the top of the blade normally found on French sword bayonets. The French model is the most copied sword bayonet of all time. I found several American made copies whose crossguard is more like this one. However, all the American ones I found have a brass crossguard and most of them don’t have the screw attachment in the crossguard. The French 1866 wasn’t used in The Civil War. The Ballard Carbine it was attached to was a Brown Manuf, which was also made after the Civil War, leading me to believe this was used by the Cavalry after the Civil War. The Blade is 22 ½ inches in length, just as is the French Model 1866 -
Many thanks to all of you that have served. Many thanks and condolences to those that have lost family members or friends.

I didn't realize he was from TN - glad you shared. What a great Memorial Day Weekend activity.

Nice! My artistic ability is closer to that of a five year old - it would look more like a stick figure gun.

NPR attacks Katie Couric's Anti-gun Documentary
Pete123 replied to Moped's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Agreed. And neither of them are liked or respected by those that work under them. -
I will, thanks. Right now I'm not sure that I want to do that much work, though I'll definitely reach out if I do.

NPR attacks Katie Couric's Anti-gun Documentary

This will never happen, though I would like to see news media have two sections: The opinions section and the facts section with penalties for putting opinion in the facts section. -
Great info - thanks

Thai man attacked by snake that slithered up through his toilet
Pete123 replied to Pete123's topic in General Chat
I've been thinking about Wingshooter's comment, that he would have cut the head off the snake. I think most any guy in America would do that. Keep in mind that you would have 30 minutes to think about how to handle the situation. So, I'm thinking one of two things. The man was stuck - most of the snake was in the pipes and he wasn't going anywhere. So, either pythons are sacred in Thailand, kind of like cows are in India, or his wife didn't want anymore children and wouldn't bring him a knife. -
I received an email from Sarco regarding a parts kit for a Spanish Cetme Model (C) Rifle Parts Set. There is a link below. I don't know anything about these types of kits and bet someone here does. Is this a good way to get a decent .308 semi auto if you are willing to put it together? Are there more parts you need to make it operational? I doesn't come with a magazine, I'm not sure what else is missing. That one piece doesn't look long enough to be a barrel and they have a note that barrels are back ordered. Here's the link, followed by a pic of what you get: http://www.e-sarcoinc.com/spanish-cetme-model-c-rifle-parts-set.aspx?utm_source=Memorial+Day+Weekend+2016&utm_campaign=Memorial+Day+2016&utm_medium=email

S&W M&P in back pocket: Interesting sight
Pete123 replied to Pete123's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I'm trying to figure this one out as well - how he would draw the gun with it being upside down. Was it a shoulder holster? -
Thai man attacked by snake that slithered up through his toilet
Pete123 replied to Pete123's topic in General Chat
Just to clarify what got bitten, it wasn't his butt, it was his penis. The pictures showed blood all over the bathroom. So, the snake was clamped in place for 30 minutes. He tried everything to get him off. Finally, with is kids watching, his wife tied a rope around the snake and he was able to pry the jaws off said body part and immediately passed out. -
I haven't followed this thread, so this may have been covered. A big thanks to TGO David and anyone that helped him on the upgrade. I work with techies and can say that upgrades like this aren't like our cell phone carriers where you re-boot and everything works. They are a pain. Everything has to be done a certain way, usually when the rest of us are sleeping. Even if you do everything right, it still may go haywire. Sometimes I wish I was a techie due to good pay and job security. Then, one of my tech leader friends will tell me about how their website went down at 11:00 pm and they were up all night trying to figure out what was wrong and fix it before company president gets to work and finds out that no one can buy anything because the website is down.

NPR attacks Katie Couric's Anti-gun Documentary
Pete123 replied to Moped's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Good for them - they are usually the most liberal of all. I'm really disappointed in Katie Couric. The thing she did is that she asked gun owners a question about the need for background checks. Instead of playing their answers, she had the video edited so that there was a long silence - inferring that they didn't have an answer for that. -

It was the M&P Compact. Somehow I don't think he would be the kind to appreciate instruction. -
S&W M&P in back pocket: Interesting sight
Pete123 replied to Pete123's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
That's the other part I was thinking about - where he would shoot himself. I settled on the cheek as well! -
So I was in line in a quick mart yesterday. The guy in line in front of me had on a pair of jeans. His right rear pocket was stuffed - something I couldn't identify and a S&W M&P. The grips and the rear of the gun were completely sticking out. I couldn't decide whether to be concerned that he would shoot himself or not as some kid will snatch it and run soon if he makes a habit of that.
