I got bored and looked up the new tax form today. I haven't received my 1099s yet but being on a fixed income it doesn't vary much from year to year so I plugged the numbers in from last years tax forms and used the new forms/tables for this year. I got back $440 of my money last year but this year it should be around $1800 1040 is here: https://www.irs.gov/forms-pubs/about-form-1040

Steve Dickerson (R-Nashville) to Introduce Red Flag Bill

It seems as if "Little Marco" is trying to get a similar bill passed on the federal level . I guess we're lucky he's not President. https://www.congress.gov/bill/116th-congress/senate-bill/7/text -
Words escape me Video at link. Two adorably clueless 17 years olds, Kevin and Kyle Bumstead of Iowa, got four minutes to dial a number on a rotary phone. It was their first time using such a relic from a bygone age. Imagine asking an English speaker to parse some Egyptian hieroglyphs. In this case, it took the pair more than a minute simply to recognize that Step 1 involved lifting the receiver. “What’s with all the holes?” one teen asked, before finally realizing you have to stick your finger in a numbered hole and spin the rotary mechanism to dial a specific number. Talk about the speed of progress. https://www.foxnews.com/tech/watch-2-adorably-clueless-teens-17-baffled-by-a-rotary-phone

I stand corrected. I forgot that global warming no longer fit their agenda.

Gore's global warming strikes again Let it snow, even in the desert. A rare winter storm dropped several inches of snow on cactus in the Arizona desert Wednesday, causing many schools and government agencies to shutter for the day. The Tucson area saw up to 6 inches of snow while Nogales, an Arizona city on the Mexico border, received a similar amount. Temperatures also dipped below freezing for the first time in four years, and were expected to remain through Thursday. https://www.foxnews.com/weather/rare-winter-storm-brings-snow-to-arizona-desert-as-midwest-northeast-avoid-deep-cold

Since this thread has taken a historical turn, here's another tidbit.. Ellis Island began processing immigrants into the U.S. on Jan. 1, 1892 — 127 years ago. Fifteen-year-old Irish immigrant Annie Moore was the first to cross through the Ellis Island Immigration station, according to the Library of Congress. She would be one of more than 12 million people who would pass through the entry port in New York Harbor, which operated for 62 years. https://dailycaller.com/2019/01/01/ellis-island-immigration-new-year/

I don't usually get into the "resolution" thing but this thread actually got me to thinking. About the most practical, and maybe, the most useful would be to try to sell more guns than I buy next year.

I'm going to make two, one for this year and another for next year. This year I'm going to start cleaning out/straightening out my shop. Next year I'm going to continue the job

In this case, the red flag law seems to have both pros and cons. A possible school shooting averted and an unsuspecting relative having his guns taken away. A middle school student in Vermont helped avert a possible school shooting after overhearing two classmates discussing bringing guns to campus, police say. Investigators said a concerned parent from Middlebury Union Middle School called police on Saturday to inform them their child had expressed concern “over some conversation this student was privy to, where there was talk about using firearms to harm people in school.” Middlebury Police Chief Tom Hanley told the Addison Independent on Tuesday that police and school officials immediately launched a probe into the allegation over the weekend. “By early Monday, we had identified two people, one of whom had made a specific threat against a specific person in the school, with a date and time on when this was going to happen,” he told the newspaper. He said the two 14-year-old students were planning to get guns from a relative and bring them to school on Tuesday. “You had one juvenile making a very specific threat, another juvenile who was going to provide the guns for him to carry it out,” Hanley said. “There are relationship issues between all the people involved. We’re still getting through a lot of that.” Prosecutors got an Extreme Risk Order and seized the guns from the relative's home and police got the Vermont Department for Children & Families involved. Hanley said more than 10 weapons were confiscated from the home, largely consisting of hunting rifles and handguns. He told the Independent he doesn’t believe any semi-automatic assault rifles or shotguns were among the confiscated weapons. The youth who allegedly wanted to do the shooting was placed in custody with DCF and is receiving mental health counseling, while the other who offered access to the weapons is awaiting possible punishment. Their identities have not been revealed and they were indefinitely pulled from classes, the Independent reported. Police said there is no longer a threat to the school, which serves students in grades 7 and 8 for several towns in the area. https://www.foxnews.com/us/attentive-student-foiled-possible-school-shooting-vermont-police-say
