Academy in Cool Springs has a boatload of Winchester 223/5.56 as of about an hour ago. Several varieties but I didn't take notes since i don't shoot it.

I just checked Hobby Lobby's website and they have a set for $10. SKU 104869 in the art department. I may out and pick some up this week.

Powder seems to be less of an issue now. Primers are still hard to find or very expensive. I saw some CCI small pistol today at a local gun store for $163/1000. They can keep them for that.

I've pushed some out on occasion and they worked fine when I fired them. A slooow steady stroke with the universal decapper works for me. That said, I don't do this for more than 1 or 2 now and then, couldn't imagine doing it for any volume of primers.

Time to pull out the lead and casting pot.

I've got a 1967 vintage 10/22, serial # 103xxx with the original Mannlicher stock. It will run BX-25 and other clone magazines but using anything but the 10-round mags feels like sacrilege with that rifle.

I'm doing some loads to shoot out of a conversion cylinder in my 1851 Navy. The instructions for the cylinder are to use 38 Long Colt or 38 Special wad cutters. I've got a good bit of 38 LC brass and want to load 148 grain hollow base wadcutters to get better obturation/grip on the rifling. I haven't found any 38 LC load data for 148 grain wadcutters, but have the data for 38 special. The question is if it is safe to load the wadcutters in the 38 LC brass using the COL and powder charge listed for the 38 special loads. It seems to me that the space inside the case of the 38 LC with the bullet protruding 1/8 inch out of the case would be the same as in the 38 special case. The pressure listed in the Lee manual for the 38 special wadcutters is actually less than for the 150 grain round nose that I have been loading in the 38 LC brass so I think I'm safe there. I thought I'd bounce my logic off some experts before loading them. These are not hot loads by the way.

I wish they were open on Saturdays for pickups. Fortunately I've got good brothers-in-law that pick up orders for me.

A couple of years ago I picked up some discounted CCI primers from the 1970's and they all went bang so I would buy/load/shoo them without hesitation.  As others have said, as long as you tell the buyer what they're buying, no problem.

Picked up an SR22 with the 4.5" barrel at the Nashville gun show yesterday for $310.  Took it out to the farm for some plinking today and it was a blast.  It ran smooth with the Mexican CI ammo they gave me with the gun (100 rnds), and also ran Blazer and Golden Bullet flawlessly.  I'm going to have fun with this gun!

I'm with the deprime and wet tumble crowd.  Much easier than cleaning the primer pockets one by one.

Neglected to add that I agree with the loss of style - nothing like nice wood and steel in firearms!  On the other hand, the newer ships and planes are more effective at covering your backside in a bad situation.

This brought back a memory when a Phalanx went off about 50 yards from my CHU one night in Balad - twice!  That was the only time I hit the deck and grabbed my body armor.  Found out the next morning it was a test fire that I didn't get the word on.

I picked up a couple of boxes of Hornady 22 Mag at Academy in Franklin yesterday.  A buddy who was there about 10 minutes after me told me a guy and his wife came in when he was there and bought up most of what was left ~1000 rounds.

He is a great gunsmith, which is why he has a big backlog.  Interesting guy to talk to as well.

Robert, Yup, that was a thumbo.  Looks like I hit the spacebar instead of the 0.  By the way, lots of .22LR available for Black Friday.  I picked up 2 525 round boxes of Federal at Dick's tonight for $24.98 each - less than 5 cents/round.  They have a bunch of them.   Clutch80

The ballistics tables I looked at only showed a drop of about 1/4 inch from 50 yards to 100 yards so I figured a zero at 50 with iron sights was good.  After I get it set up with my handloads I will take it out to 100 yards and see what I get. It's a fun rifle to shoot and the handloads will make it more affordable.  As a side note, the test group that I shot to determine the correct front sight height was about 8 inches high but I popped clay pigeons with it by holding 8 inches low.  Did I say it was a nice shooting rifle?
