I'm an advocate of having someting, any gun is better than nothing or a sharp stick but I always tell people to have/get what they can handle. I gave a cheap .22LR to my moms friend not long ago,(it's safe, it shoots), she is an elderly woman and has shot .22 handguns before and that's what she wanted. Yes, if it at least makes bad guy go away then it did it's job, even they don't want to be shot by a .22. Now if she were younger and stronger I would recommend something bigger, my mom who is 85 has a NEF .32 mag I gave her long ago, she shot it once so I know she knows how it works and she knows what to expect from it. That's the biggest caliber she can handle but she's not unprortected in my view, she's definatly not going to one of James Yeagers classes of handgun fighting but her and most people at least know to point at bad guy and shoot and like I said, that's better than nothing. Hopefully bad guy wont be some wired up crack head who doesn't care if he dies or not, now I carry and have close my Glock 21 loaded with 13- Hornaday 220grain +P flex tip HP's, a good hit with those i'll bet will be a little more effective than .22LR or .32mag. :)

Shot twice in the chest? Where in the chest and what caliber handgun was she using? With two good center hits in the chest with a decent caliber handgun and modern defensive ammo should eventually kill him. Shot placement AND a 9mm and up with some reliable HP's like Hornaday Flex Tip, it's hard to imagine someone surviving that even if it didn't stop them instantly. Anyway, if the stalker/home invader died, he asked for it.

Besides a few blisters and a low grade fever the pox didn't bother me that much at 24 years old, I had heard it was harder on an adult but it wasn't in my case. I take a flu shot every year but never considered a shingles vaccine, I sure don't want to try shingles if I can help it. A guy I worked with once had a case on his chest, he said it felt like someone hit him in the ribs with a bat then poured boiling water down his side. Ouch.

I would think if you never had chicken pox, the shingles vaccine would give you chicken pox if anything. I caught chicken pox when I was 24 from my neice, my brother said not to come over to his house but I "assumed" since I was older I wouldn't catch it, yeah right. Chicken pox is highly contagious.

Well of course i've never been on the recieving of one or looked at any damage on a range vehicle. They do make a cool flash and boom, the sights weren't all that great I thought back in the 80's, I hope they improved them at least on the M203. I know now they have some multable shot repeater grenade launchers with what looked like some kind of optical sight.

I don't know how legit it is but I made a photo copy of my permit and DL just in case. I believe it's enough to get an LEO to call in on the radio and find out that you do have a permit. You still legally have a carry permit even though you lost the plastic.

Why was open carry without a permit vetoed in TN?
K191145 replied to RAJBCPA's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I know it's not all we wanted but at least they changed the law about being armed in a vehicle for those without permits. I will write my reps. like I have about supporting permitless carry, we keep getting little chunks at a time but they are in the right direction, I still think there's a chance of getting permitless carry some day. I'll still complain but I realize that Tennessee is a gun owner friendly state, more than many. Go ahead and write and voice your complaints but also be thankful we are no where close to being restrictive as Kalifornia, Colorado, Maryland, New Jersey, all of New England, New York, Illinoise, and quite a few more. Try tolerating their restrictions. -

I think that's a big part of their decision. Legislators love money in the budget to spend no matter where it comes from, the thought of loosing any amount scares them. All politicians are like a 20 year old girl with a new credit card at a clothing store. -
I would still think one in the lap would at least stun the victim for a moment. They do make some noise, i'm sure they are more effective in a small room or cab of a vehicle if you are good enough to lob one through a window.

I laugh when I see someone in a movie throw a "hand grenade" and it blows a whole building apart with a huge fireball, I always comment, "they always seem to land the grenade right next to a 55 gallon drum of gasoline everytime in the movies".
-
If it was a fraq round and it detonated in the mans lap, it wouldn't have hurt at all. Lights out instantly so to speak. Sounds like a .40mm grenade you fire from an M203, it should not even arm at that distance. Of course a practice grenade I believe contains only a marking powder so if one of those detonated it would have hurt probably but right in your face may knock him out at the least. Would yo believe in the 80's at Ft. Stewart I fired probably 15-M203 rounds, a few were flare and smoke and most were fraq explosive rounds. Never fired a "practice" round, didn't knew they exsisted back then, thought the live rounds were practice rounds.

Not necessarily, the Bundy Ranch incident proved that armed resistence can make the feds back down. No different than an authortarian state government. If there's a real fear of chaos and blood, the elitist will do what they can to preserve their cozy little spoon fed existence even if they have to back down.

I'm not going to put a sign up, I think a better message would be to remove your door and take it out back or to the range, shoot about 4 to 5-.45 holes about 4' to 5' up centered, with the exit holes on the outside face of course, re-install the door, if you have a storm door put a price sticker and manufacture lable on the glass, clean it with windex so it looks recently replaced, get some fake halloween blood and make a stain on the pourch or deck and maybe a bloody shoe laying in the corner. That would be a more direct message.

The most famous B17, the Memphis Bell is being restored in Dayton Ohio, for a while it was in Memphis, I believe they stuck it on Mud Island and was letting it rot. It will stay at the museum in Ohio where it should be and taken care of. http://travel.usatoday.com/destinations/story/2012-06-24/Memphis-Belle-famed-WWII-bomber-being-restored-in-Ohio/55786672/1

I more concerned about the thugish mentality of some of our young people than their language, I guess it's because there's no one particular word that offends me, the reality of it is, it's just a sound but it's all in how you use it to communicate. I will agree that in public around people that might be offended by those words, it's dis-respectful to them to cuss around them. NOW, if someone offends me with what I think is an absurdity of some kind I will return the absurdity, an eye for an eye. One thing I will never do or try my best not to do is use a racial slur, an actual racial slur, not something some sanctimonious self-rightous liberal thinks is racist. People use certain words as "assualt words" when they get into a verbal fight, they do show your anger if you use them right, just be aware of un-intentual victims that may be close by when you go full-auto spraying large caliber words all over the place, maintain target awarness. :)
-
I don't cuss in public around strangers out of respect, around people I know, it just depends on who it is. Cussing never bothered me personally unless someone was cussing around my mom or around others who it may offend because it shows a lack of respect to them. Now I think the real absurdity in the story the OP posted is that when the 80 year old man asked the 26 year old punk not to cuss around him in public, the thug punched the old man in the face and knocked him out. That's when I will whole heartedly approve of violence against this POS. Sorry, I know that was cussing abreiviated but no one here ever said they were offended before. Sometimes a certain word gets a point accross, thug is too nice of a word for him so I thought fecal matter was a better term to describe a 26 year old &#% who punches and 80 year old man.

That's sounds like a situation where use of deadly force to defend yourself would have been justifiable. I'm getting more and more sick and tired of hearing about these young punk thug human garbage parasites beating up old people, attacking innocent people for the fun of it in grocery stores, having no conscience believing it's cool to be a thug. I'll give no sympathy for some parasite like that if they wind up on a floor bleeding with a bullet in the chest, they asked for it and they deserve it.

Here's a "proper" barrell roll. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qGprpxA0Q8M I am not a pilot but have been around quite a few, they will tell you that a "PROPER" barrell roll adds no extra stress on an airplane. The trick would be to do a "proper" barrell roll in a 747.

Well at least at Sams I can walk around with my Glock on my side. I usually get a better deal on Maxwell House there when they have it at the OHB store in West Nashville and they do have some frozen food items at a better price, besides that there's not much I need at those places. I never gave it much thought about them glancing in my cart and reciept but i've never had any trouble with being accused of stealing. I would however have a big problem if one of them ever put their paws on me, there will be an ugly incident if that ever happened. I have a "don't touch" policy I will strictly enforce. Not saying the gun will come out but they will get touched back alot harder.

I hadn't thought about it but I believe Ambien could do that, or make a person do bizzare things. When my dad became bedridden in 07 just a few months before he passed away he was put on Ambien 10mg. at night. One night we called 911 because of the Ambien, I didn't realize how hard that affected people. He was reading a book just 2 to 5 minutes after taking his pill and I was talking to him, all of the sudden his eyes closed and his hand holding the book started shaking and he became un-responsive. That didn't happen gradually but instantly, I thought he was having a heart attack so I called the paramedics, they checked him out and his vitals were okay and one said the Ambien had that radical reaction to him because he was getting so weak then. He became aware again shortly the paramedics arrived and didn't understand what all the fuss was about. All I knew was he suddenly went out, shaking almost like a mini seizure and could not be awakened. After that I started giving only half whiched worked and if he needed the other half at 2 or 3am I would give him that, he didn't have that radical of a reaction to just 1/2 or 5mg. I would be way too scared to take Ambien after what I saw and have heard about, I would require that I would be shackled to the bed if I took that. I remember reading an artical from a doctor that said he believed Ambien sometimes puts people's brain to sleep but not their body, they are walking around, driving and doing other physical activities all the time their mind is in a dreamstate, that's scary as hell.

Why go through the trouble? Well I might be wearing my tin foil hat but I would be paranoid that there was some local fed who's favorite thing in the whole world to do is find some stupid violation of a federal law and bust you for it, I think it's a hobby to a few of them. I probably wouldn't be too worried about city or county, unless you have made some LEO mad at you at some time. I guess the person who bought them thought it was the safe thing to do, at least clear his name from them. I'm sure they would probably never be found and no one knew about them, but I wonder if there was some invatory list of all those guns for someone in the future to see and ask you what you did with the little shotguns.
-
I would'nt be surprised if the feds learned about it and investigated the estate sale. Or do they bother with minor stuff like that? I also wouldn't be surprised, given the reputation of the feds if they didn't at least harrass the buyer even though they turned in the short shotguns. "No good deed goes unpunished", That is often true. They would probably have a hard time prosecuting someone for it though. Wonder if you turned in the "barrell" of a short shotgun and kept the reciever and stock, if that would be acceptable? I guess turning them in would be the safe thing to do, if it was learned later that you bought some short shotguns and didn't report them that could get you investigated and searched, and possibly arrested. My solution if I were King of America would be just to void the stupid 1939 law knowing very well it does nothing to stop criminals from murder. Although a little more concealable, you can't kill anyone more deader with it than a legal one.
