I got 19 years on you, born in December of 61. 1980 is when I went to basic.
-
Those who enlisted before June 1st 84 only had a 6 year MSO. I enlisted in 80, got my discharge in 86. Actually i'm glad it was only a 6 year obligation at that time, in August of 86 I had a compound break of my right femur, had a large rod placed inside it and also a head injury that caused a seizure but not a perminant condition. My right leg never was right after that, my right foot vears to the right to this day. I might have been medically discharged if it was an 8 year obligation.

I signed up after a few months after I turned 18, never got a reminder in the mail. a couple of months later I reported to basic training. I always wondered if you enlist at 18, would you still have to register, seems that enlisting would take care of that. You have a 6 year service no matter how long your active service is, if you choose 3 years active you are still in the IRR (Individual Ready Reserves) until your 6 year commitment is up.

Interesting email I got with a bit of interesting history.

If I remember right back in the late 60's and 70's, real history was taught in school and was an important subject. Most of my TV time was watching the History channel until it became the Pawn Stars channel which shows just how Americans are interested in learning something besides what a Willie Mantle baseball card is worth. The American Hero's channel will show alot of WW1 and WW2 doucumentries, and some other history for now until the public demands it becomes a fictional reality show channel. I wasn't a good student in school but I still knew more about history than many "college students". I watched a show called Civil War Combat the other night about the Battle of Franklin and really learned alot about it, a very interesting show to me. Very few people who even live in Tennessee or around Franklin are interested enough to know the history of their own home, seems that the attitude is that history is boring and not anything that is usefull to them. -

Well many of us here at TGO are ex-military, not all combat vets but we did enlist with patriotic intentions. Most vets I have incountered are very pro-2nd Amendment and pro-Constitution. I would bet that if there was a SHTF situation and orders were given to disarm the public by any means including using deadly force we would see a division in our military that would prevent them from following those orders. I really believe that. Besides, the entire military is just not large enough to cover every square mile of the U.S. Just a few large cities would require most all military equipment and personnel, I just don't see tanks and apc's in Dickson, Murfreesboro, Smyrna, Hog Lick or Rooster Poot. :)

I truely believe that also, without the NRA the whole country would have New Jersey style, federal gun control laws. We may have some complaints about the NRA, believe they are not fighting enough sometimes but ultimatly they have protected what we do have nationally. The states who have strict Un-Constitutional gun control laws like New Jersey are that way because the majority of their citizens vote for leaders who don't respect the Constitution, it's ultimatly the peoples fault in those states. We haven't gotten all we want in Tennessee but we DAMN sure have alot more than some other states. That's not a reason to stop pressuring our own bozo leaders but at least we have pressured many of them to pander to us over the years. I'm confused about all the politics on this park bill, I was holding comment until something was final with all this back and forth non-sense, certain reps being pressured by who ever to kill the bill and all that.

My sister had one about 10+ years ago that she sold because she had a hard time just pulling the trigger. It did have a crappy heavy trigger, I asked around and couldn't find any gunsmiths who would touch it. I don't know how different it is nowadays but I don't want one. The only reason I would buy one is to make my Glock feel better about not being the most butt ugly gun I own. :)

We have already seen an example not too long ago at the Bundy Ranch.

I had a bowl of them yesterday. Sorry, I thought you said Ramin Noodles.

Methinks it's still smart for employees to practice the "don't ask, don't tell" policy. The employer doesn't know, they keep their job and keep their money. :) But you know there's always some dufuss who will brag about his new Glock or AR and has to show it to his friend during lunch.

Here's a cool looking .45acp carbine, 12.5" barrell. Any legality problems with that not being 16"? http://www.luvo.cz/products/rifles/cz-2003-blueline-n-301d.html
-
I always wanted some sort of .45acp carbine, one that would handle +P loads with no problem. Wonder if the sweet spot/barrell lenght would be the same as is for standard pressure loads, seems that it would be a little more length for +P.

Isn't that also known as the Nuremburg Defense?

Sorry for your loss, I lost my dad back in 07, he was 86.

What would make my day is if enough citizens of South Illinois seceded from the state and created a South Illinois and North Illinois. We know that failed in Colorado but not by that much, almost 1/3 of the voters voted for secession, that's quite a few and if there were more than the one liberal anti-gun issue it could have happened. It's not treason for citizens of a state to vote for secession since they are not seceding from the U.S., just the state.

Police Cheifs of big cities and the Police Superintendent of Chicago are nothing more than politicians with a political agenda, making comments from a memo from the Mayor, this is what you believe, this is what you will say and how you will say it. And don't forget your appointment to come by my office at 12:30 for your weekly kiss my ass visit. They rarely speek for the cop on the street, but Chicago you never know. I've seen Chicago for 30 seconds from the window of a 737, that's all I care to see of the place.

There would be more of a fight in Tennessee I believe, at least I hope so. I personally don't live in Nashville so Nashville doesn't have any authority here even though i'm close to it, I can't see a situation in Nashville like I can Memphis if the New Madrid fault lets go again. Also we saw the few in New Orleans have their rights trampled on but there were alot more who didn't or lived outside the city. The ones who did got all the media attention.

Any Chance to Amend HB 0682 in Senate
K191145 replied to 300winmag's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
We need to call it the Anti-Discrimination law, not to allow businesses to discriminate against law abiding citizens who practice their Constitutional rights. -
Must be some kind of rare wood, be careful if you buy it though, you might be raided by 50 feds if full tactical gear guns drawn.

Good letter.

Also there was a rumor that long before Katrina, some federal money dedicated to maintain and strengthen the levys was re-directed to build casinos but of course it was all Bush's fault. New Orleans was a city that gambled with the laws of physics anyway, a hole in the ground surrounded by a great lake, the Mississippi river and the Gulf of Mexico, the question wasn't if but when it would flood. People who live in the middle of big cities are refugees waiting for a disaster.

I had a Raging Bull with a 8" barrell and ported once when they first came out before the .500 and .460. It was strictly a novility gun, I did take it hunting once but had to keep it covered because it was bright polished stainless which is like taking a mirror with you hunting. I shot it quite often, it will definatly send a shock wave up your arm. I concluded if I shot it too much I would eventually develop some kind of "itis" in my wrist or elbow, Magnumitis. I later sold that gun, I had my fun with it and it wasn't practical for much since we don't have moose or grizzlys in Tennessee. If I hiked often in the Rockys I would definatly carry a .454 or bigger.

I don't see that happening here in Tennessee anyway, New Orleans is a big liberal city that had a corrupt liberal mayor who is currently residing in jail. Notice no gun confications happened in Mississippi, there's a reason for that.
