1.   Well, I would rather she not keep a semi-auto chambered, she doesn't have dementia or alzheimer's but she is getting more forgetful in her old age. She still can pull the double action trigger on her .32 revolver but it's hard and getting harder as she gets older. If that were not an issue the revolver would be fine for her.
2. Also TGO is a good forum to learn about carry laws in Tennessee, there's some good threads to search and smart people to ask if you have a question about them. We have a law here that states that you can keep a loaded handgun in your vehicle even if you don't have a handgun carry permit, you just can't wear it on your hip until you get a carry permit. You are also restricted where you can go with it in your car, more so than someone with a carry permit. I haven't thought about it but someone will answer it, as for the "Guns In Cars" law as the media puts it, i'm not 100% sure if that applies to non-residents of the state.   Also one more important thing when buying your first handgun, if you have to shoot a bad guy home invader, it's a known fact that .380 or 9mm will only make them mad but a .45 will knock them off their feet and 10 feet back.      "not really"
3.   Don't know how fast it will take for you to change your DL or something to officially prove you're a citizen of Tennessee and live here. Like Oh Shoot said there's always a private sale, maybe get you an inexpensive shooter, something that will go bang and not break until you are set to buy something nice. No problem possessing one in your home here unless you have a felony or restraining order. There's a few gun stores/ranges in Nashville area that you can rent different handguns to fire and find one that fits your wants and needs instead of guessing. And welcome to Tennessee.
4.   I'm going to check to see if she could cycle my 10/22.
5.   A lot of pistol caliber carbines are bulky and heavy, I don't see why they can't make something slim and lightweight. I had thought about letting he keep my 10/22 close by, chambering a round in a semi is a concern, I just think a charging handle is easier and she would be nervous keeping a round chambered and so would I. She's still sharp minded for her age but she does forget some things. That Kel-Tec looks pretty cool, I don't have any experience with it, it would have to be easy to cycle for her though, I know she can't even begin to cycle a .380 or 9mm handgun.
6. I was discussing truck guns and options in another thread and mentioned a Glock conversion carbine kit as an option although I would rather have a rifle round for vehicle carry. Anyway it started me thinking about pistol caliber carbines and my 86 year old mom. Right now she has a NEF snubby in .32H&R mag. she's shot it but she still has a hard time pulling the trigger, even dry firing a revolver with a lighter trigger is hard for her. Cycling a semi is hard if not impossible for her either. Then I thought about a short light weight carbine with an oversized charging handle in 9mm. Better caliber than .32mag, larger capacity, manageable recoil and simple to operate. Keep it simple, maybe just a good light with not too many extra buttons to push. Maybe an elderly person could handle something like that a little better than a handgun. A pistol caliber carbine is not on my priority list but I would like to have one, mine would be in .45acp with a light and laser, I think it would make a decent home defense weapon, more effective and controllable than a short barrel handgun. I know the shotgun argument, I have a 12 guage 870 at the ready with 5 mule kicking OO buck loads but if I had a .45acp carbine with a 20 or 30 round mag I would probably put the 870 in the gun cabinet and place that beside my bed.
7.   One thing increased gun sales do is send a message to anti-gunners that they are loosing support in their battle to take away our rights.
8.   I just saw that vid and thought it was cool looking. BUT, I did read about a couple of .45 carbines in Gun Test magazine some time ago, both were AR look alikes. One had too many failures to continue the test, the other functioned well, one short cycle but that could be a bad ammo charge. They tested 230 hardball and Hornaday 220 +p Critical Defense. The hardball was getting around 900+fps muzzle velocity and the CD was getting close to 1200 fps muzzle velocity from a 16" barrel. I believe the carbine will improve the performance quite a bit from a handgun round especially if you can shoot quality +p hollow points. Also with a good stock and sight it has to be more controllable and accurate, also 30 round mags are a plus. A lot of LE and military still use sub carbines, they should be a big improvement to a handgun.  Anyway I would prefer something in .223 or 7.62 x 39.
9.   Maybe they are making their powder the old fashion way.     Don't breath the smoke too much or you will go bat sh!t crazy.  :)
10.   How about I get a new carry gun and get one of these for my Glock 21?  :)   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_vQElgVhqZI
11. Seems pretty fast to me considering I was using a ten year old computer with Vista before this. All I do is get online, search a few things and read and post on TGO. I never make any money transactions or put any card number whatsoever, I have a few word files and pictures I view and play with the Paint program. No SS number or account info whatsoever is stored on this computer. My computer life is pretty simple so I don't need too much.
12. my new computer is running 8.1, I keep getting pop ups saying I should load 10 but 8.1 is working fine for what I do. Any real reason I should upload 10?
13.   I agree, I know it's not always an easy thing to do but like test driving a car I would hope to test fire a firearm. But sometimes you just can't do that in a shopping mall parking lot. If it's an inexpensive vehicle gun I would shoot it just enough to know its reliability and accuracy then it wouldn't get fired too much after that probably, just enough now and then to make sure it still works. The old M16A1's we had back at Ft. Stewart in the early 80s had the crap shot out of them, all the I was issued was soo loose and rattley I didn't need the extra firing pin to push out the take down pins, I could push them out with my finger enough to grab them from the other side. They shot fine though.
14.   I do want an AR, probably would already have one if I didn't have an AK. The .223 makes sense for a truck/trunk gun but for SHTF gun i've been checking out vids and reviews of the Ruger SR 7.62. My motivation for .308/7.62 with a quality optic is, you are well defended and you also have a good big game hunting rifle rolled into one. Read a lot of positives about the Ruger but it's pricey and maybe too much gun for vehicle carry. Crap, I don't have even 1 AR yet and now i'm wanting 2. It would also be nice to find a complete AR in .223 through private sale for a few bills. How about this? I could probably talk my brother into selling me his SKS for $250 to $300. Change out the stock maybe/definatly to polymer with adjustable stock, it's already the shorter/carbine model and for some strange reason i've collected several SKS replacement mags, 20 and 30 round over the years. I know the gun, it's reliable and also has a cheapo Norinco scope which is zero'd in pretty well. SKS behind the seat?
15.   My nephew is going to build an AR soon, i'm going to help him out since i've never built one myself. Good learning experience.
16.   Does High Point make a (reliable) .223 carbine? At least if it was stolen it wouldn't hurt as bad as a nice AR. Maybe that's a market in itself, a carbine designed just for the truck or trunk. Inexpensive, decent sights, short and reliable.     Nope, just checked. No High Point .223
17. I like one of the suggestions in a comment below the story, incorporate pig bone in the polymer stock and grip.
18.   I have so many new guns I want like a new carry gun, an AR in .308 ect. but I also wouldn't mind a new shotgun, a Versamax with a short barrel and mag extension with some kind of red dot sight and a mounted light of course, for home defense. Then I would take my 870 with the 18" barrel, replace the stock with a pistol grip and mount a red dot and have that as a truck gun. Loaded with slugs for a little more range than buck.
19.   Also, I personally know a staunch liberal who recently got their carry permit. Now i'm sure people are getting worried. Good for them though, they did a smart thing. Now if I could just make them see that who they are voting for all these years are responsible for the hostile environment we have today.
20.   Bingo. What I carry is considered a full size duty handgun, in the past I have considered downsizing for convenience and comfort of carry but especially in the last year i've decided to keep carrying what I have with the best ammo I can load it with. I know it and shoot better with it than any other handgun I have and even though many say I don't need that caliber to do the job, as far as handguns and handgun ammo goes, there's no argument that .45 "WONT" get the job done. With the environment today I would sling my MAK90 over my shoulder and carry 2 extra 30 round mags if I could without getting shot myself by someone freaking out thinking I was about to go on an active shooting spree. I would put it behind my truck seat but i'm paranoid that it would get stolen. There will likely come a time when i'll just avoid certain places all together because it's going to just get worse, I certainly don't see it getting better.
21.   Me thinks it has more to do with just gun control talk. Maybe some are due to the hostile and increasingly dangerous environment we are living in today. 1.7 million in one month, people are just preparing for the near future which doesn't look too fruitful and safe.
22.   Instant double tap .45. Pretty badass.
23. This is my vote. :)
24.   Also, if he has a New York State carry permit, Tennessee will honor that. And printing isn't an issue.
25. It's refreshing to hear some young people nowadays with some smarts and common sense.    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TwqIIF63ncM
