Thanks for the info, just razzing you a little about the typo earlier. My nefew is getting married today at Burns park in Kingston Springs, a city park so I guess I can't keep my Glock in my truck in the parking lot right now but if I wanted to go to Mongomery Bell state park today I would be okay with my handgun.

+1 In laymans terms.

Maybe someone needs to put an amendment into the state budget to cut a quite a few million from state parks if it means to close some golf courses, swimming pools, and close off large areas of most state parks to the public to save money for the state. See how Bredesen likes that idea.
-
He can go to Europe today as far as I'm concerned and stay as long as he wants to.
-
Well Bredesen's going to Europe this weekend, then when he comes back he and the legislator has the state budget to contend with. I'm hoping he just lets the park bill go without a veto because that would just take up a lot of time in the House to over ride this one also. Besides, I don't think he can get enough uniformed park rangers to stand behind him for a photo shoot unless he orders them to as state employees. But I don't completly count out the possibility that the SOB will veto it.

Just like D.C., San Fransissyco, New England, etc, they don't care about federal laws or the constitution. They just do what they please and get away with it.

Aw man, I hate legal language. But if a business does ban gun from it's property which I assume parking lot also, they do have to post signs in the parking lot unless it's city or government property. Actually that's kind of a question. I know the Renasance Center in Dickson has signs in their parking lot also. BUT, you have to drive up a long drive into their lot to see them. But officer, I couldn't see the sign till I was already on their property.

Thanks Fallguy, just hope all park rangers know the law. I'm betting there will be a few who would just love to get an illegal gun bust since all the recent media hooplaa about these bills. Not saying all park rangers are this way but I knew one years ago who was a real jerk.

An open letter to the folks on this board....

You didn't upset me at all Hex. Personally I was wanting this bill for mostly matters of principals. I haven't touched a drop of alcohol for over 5 years because of stomach problems, just 2 beers would make me sick these days, don't even have any desire for it either. I also don't have any desire to spend $30+ for a meal at a fancy joint that isn't any better than anything I can cook up for $8. Good ol Cracker Barrel or Petro Truck Stop is my style so I have no personal desire to go to these restuarants, or especially bars. I just want the right to carry their if I chose. -
I guess they would just be posted for persons without carry permits. Question about Metro parks if they ban guns. If you look at a map of Centennial Park, you will notice that 31st ave from West End to Park Plaza rd. to Charlotte Ave. goes straight through the park. I think Park Plaza is a public road not officially part of the park. Can some yahoo anti-carry park ranger bust you for traveling through the park on a main road that happens to go through a park but leads to another road out of the park?

I appreciate the posters keeping us up to date on what's going on in the legislator, I've been trying not to get too stressed about it after Governor, (insert colorful metaphors here)______________, Bredesen's veto. I've e-mailed my Rep. called his office yesterday, and participated in the media polls posted on the forum. So I'm going to try to relax and check on the outcome.

I know post's about this subject have been scattered on many different threads, just thought I would start one on this particular subject. It is no secret that most all local news outlets have a slanted agenda toward the negative side of the gun bills going through the legislator right now, I would just like to here some opinions of who thinks who has had the fairest coverage on these issues. Now I'm in the middle part of the state so I can only view WKRN ch2, WSMV ch4, WTVF ch5, WZTV ch17, and the Tennessean. I ignore the Tennessean web site and editorials, to me it's a waste of time. I also haven't watched WTVF for a couple of weeks because of a very negative, slanted story they ran then. I haven't seen WSMV do many stories about the gun bills so, so far I believe WKRN and WZTV have had the fairest coverage. At least WKRN has interviewed people on our side in length and has sometimes referred to the "Carry in Restaurants Bill" as the "So-Called Guns in Bars Bill". I have also seen a story on WZTV where our side was represented in length, not just a one liner from a supporter. Here's an artical from WKRN's web site. Gun bill sponsor says governor, media misfired - WKRN, Nashville, Tennessee News, Weather, and Sports | I haven't seen every report or artical, maybe some of the TGO posters have seen some differently than I have.

Times Free Press Clergy nonsense

Thank you for being logical about this. Maybe if you knew some of these pastors who are against the bill you could convince them to minister about a real problem such as those who may go to these establishments and abuse alcohol at the bar, then clime in a 2000lb vehicle and take to the streets. I found it ironic and somewhat hypocritical that the restaurant owners who voiced their disapproval at the bill are the very ones who sell a much more potentially dangerous product than guns, alcohol. -

Plus he would get to fire some pretty cool weapons that would't even be thought of in England.

Welcome to the USA BritishShooter. In the meantime while waiting for any paperwork to clear, ask one of the knowledgable posters here about any clubs around Nashville you could possibly join and about the legality of renting a shotgun for trap or skeet while at the club so you can enjoy your sport before your paperwork clears. Also find friends at Vandy who also enjoy shooting who may invite you to shoot their firearms at a range or property out of a city limit where it's legal to discharge firearms.

I think the media is re-learning that they are preaching only to the minority of far left Tennesseans, those who will care more than 30 minutes of their broadcast. They are sucessfull at frightening the average naive viewer for a short time before they go into, really don't give a crap mode. Notice there's no big demonstrations or rallies or hundred mom marches at the capitol. These bills will pass and the general public will forget they even exist after a short time just like the Shall Issue law passed in 97.
