Are you more patient when you're armed?
K191145 replied to Hidalgo's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I think in our minds we take carrying very seriously and don't want to escalate a minor situation into a more serious situation, where the idea of bringing our gun into the situation becomes possible. I have found that I am less likely to retaliate verbally or physically especially on the road. Where I might have flipped the bird at some one I just let them go now. I still get just as mad sometimes but I control myself better. -
With 300,000,000+ guns in circulation in the U.S. and about 80,000,000+ gun owners, it's a logistic impossibility to think that the government could even confiscate a small fraction of those much less expect the owners turn them in. You could have a few incidents in an evacuated liberal city of a few jack boots assaulting a little old lady for her pistol, but on a national scale it's an impossibility. Notice they didn't try that in Mississippi or Alabama.

Welcome. Kingston Springs here, 15 miles west of Nashville. If you're new to guns and going to buy a semi-auto, shoot it alot and get used to it, know how it works and keep it clean and lubed.

I bid 60 cents, I need a good pry bar.

It's accurate though, my brother has taken two deer with it.

My brother just bought the reciever, the stock was from another Mosin. After searching pics of Remington Mosin's I realized someone has modified this one, chopped some of the barrell off and added a front sight not seen on any Mosin's. The American Mosin's had the longer barrell. Front Sight They bent the bolt handle also.

I've always used regular old solvent to clean mine but I'll try Windex next time. Thanks for that info. Another thing I did after reading about sticking bolts was to take an old cleaning rod with a nylon .45 caliber brush, putting it in a drill, drench it with solvent and really scrub the chamber. I thought a nylon brush would be more gentle than a brass brush since I used a drill. After doing that for about 10 minutes, I haven't had a fired case stick in the chamber since. It was a problem before I did that, I've heard it was because the Cosmoline that coated the chamber.

5 years ago I bought a Polish M44 at the Goodman show for $65, the last show I went to I didn't see any Mosin's for under $150. The Polish M44 has the best cleanest finish I've ever seen on any Mosin, I touched up some shiny spots with a bluing kit and sanded and re-varnished the stock.

I love mine also but it's a brick to carry everyday.

Well it's going to be a few months anyway unless I make a trade in, then I'm always mad later I traded that particular gun so this time I'll just save the cash and be patient. I tend not to be a patent person when buying guns. I'll find and shoot a handgun in .357 Sig before then.
-
I guess I'm looking for that "perfect" handgun/cartridge combo that will never miss and has 100% one shot stopping power. I know that doesn't exist but i'll try to at least get the best out there. I feel confident in .45 but the handguns that fire it are always bulky and I want a little more power than the standard 9mm round. I'm stuck in the old 1990's attitude of either .357mag or .45acp, that comes from reading too many articals from gun writers in magizines.
-
The Glocks definatly have one good thing I like about them, reliability, which is priority #1 with me. Then accuracy and capacity. I guess I should check out some other models, my G21SF has that large grip for my hands. I've gotten used to it but a smaller grip would be better. The fact that there's .357 Sig's that can be converted to .40 or .9 is also a nice +, I would probably get the 9mm conversion.
-
Thanks for the information. What I want is a carry gun with stopping power, I know shot placement is important but I want the extra "umph" also. I like my G-21 but carrying it all the time is like toting a brick around so I want a smaller carry package, not a sub-compact but between that and a full size auto. I would like at least a 10 round capacity magizine, and of course relaibility is most important. It will be about 2 months before I go window shopping but I'm thinking about the XD's.

I've never fired a .357 Sig round but my two main carry calibers over the years have been .45ACP or .357Mag. From what I've read the .357 Sig has about the same ballistics and bullet weights of a .357 Mag. but not being familiar with it or the handguns that chamber the round, I would like opinions on it. I'm sure there's a thread somewhere but I was too lazy to search. Anyway, I'm thinking of a semi-sorta-compact 9mm size handgun with .357 Mag power. Before I plunk down the cash I guess the logical thing to do is fire one. How is the recoil and accuracy of the round?

Perhaps I am wrong but I thought there were certain establishments that only served alcohol (a bar, pub, etc.) that law states an age requirment of 21, the legal age for drinking. If the courts can't determine the difference between a bar, pub or restaurant then the age requirment law if there is one should apply to everyplace that serves acohol.
-
I don't know if anyone's mentioned this yet but if the law was vauge and there's no clear distinction from a restaurant and a bar, seems to me no one under 21 should be allowed in ANY establishment that serves alcohol. I have never been to Chucky Cheese but I've heard they sell beer to adults. They should enforce the 21 year old age limit to include any place that serves any alcohol including restaurants, pizza joints, bowling alleys etc.

Tennessee Representative Health Care Votes

He would make a great candidate for U.S. House, don't know if he would want to move to D.C. though. I hope he responds to my e-mail soon, at least with an idea of someone who may be considering running against Cooper. I think Cooper is now realizing what a huge political mistake he made. -

Part of Kingston Springs is in Coopers district and part is in Blackburns, I'm in the 7th.(Blackburns), but I'm still going to campaign against Cooper. We need to find a good educated, well spoken state rep to run against him. I'm not sure where Phillip Johnson lives, if he lives in the 5th. or 7th. but he would make a great candidate. Who ever runs against Cooper needs to get their name in the public as soon as possible. -
They are fun to shoot, I've shot probably 5K rounds out of mine and not had one single malfunction. It's decently accurate at it's range and not much recoil.
-
That's all they needed to crap on our freedoms.

We need to really get involved this year and support anyone who runs against any Reps who voted for this socialist control bill. Check out how your Rep voted. I'm on the district line for 5th. and 7th. district. On my voter registration card it has me in the 7th. which is Marsha Blackburn's® district who voted "NO", but the 5th. is Jim Cooper's(D) district which is most of Nashville and he voted "YEA". I'm still going to support any one who runs against this Pelosie puppet even though I can't vote for them. We need to find a good educated, well spoken, state candidate to encourage them to run against Cooper and the sooner the better. If massive campaigns nationwide to oust House Reps who voted for the bill, maybe some Democratic Senators in conservative states will get the message. It's up to the Senate now to stop our freedoms from being flushed down the toilet.

Those Reps who voted for this need to go in 2010.
