I know this applied to schools but it seems like it applies to Metro civic centers also. So the way I understand this, you are legal to pick up someone at the gym at the Metro Civic Center,(public recreation, library in Bellvue), as long as you leave your gun in your vehicle. Like I said I knew it was legal at schools but didn't know it was legal at these civic centers.

Is your EDC also your nightstand gun?
K191145 replied to Sandman's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
G-21, EDC and nightstand. Now in the heat of summer when I don't want to wear enough shirt to hide a brick i'll carry my SP101 but still have the G21 on the nightstand. -
Now there's an idea for a Christmas present, get her a nice 870 in 20 guage. She will probably bug you alot about taking her out shooting if she has her own shotgun, she will be eager to learn and no drywall repairs.
-
Okay how about this? Maybe it would be better to have one chambered and the safety on because, you can add an extra load in the mag, also racking the slide would warn the intruder to where you are in the house then he would have the stealth advantage. Just thinking of the different options.
-
It surely has the superior stopping power, I ultimatly decided on my pistol because it is always more available and faster to secure for me and I never kept the chamber loaded on my 870, just an extra step in a high stress situation, and I don't practice with it. If you feel better with your 870 than that's the best choice for you. A load of 00 in bad guys torso would definatly end his threat I would say, I may have to put a couple of 230gr +Ps in him.
-
I keep an 870 w/00 close by but I realize I probably wont use it, it's going to be my G21. So if a handgun what I choose to defend my home my attitude is I at least want the most effective caliber and round, get as much out of it as you can. So far I've never had to clear the inside of my house, but I feel better moving around with my Glock than my 870. My house is small and no encounter is going to be over 12 feet.

How far before you pull your weapon?
K191145 replied to Bubbatn's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I am reminded of the show COPS when they were in Nashville, a truck driver called the cops when one of the prostitutes he solicited stole his wallet, after questioning the two prostitutes admitted they took the wallet, all were surprised and crying that they were arrested. Makes you wonder what goes through, or doesn't go through some peoples minds. -

No need to lecture me about truth and life, I know a little bit about it. -
Thanks for mentioning Clint Smith, I haven't read anything about him but I will read some articals now. Google is great. Sometimes. Tactical Flashlight Retention Device, Tactical Storage Review From the artical: This was my idea about a light attached to the back of a glove. It doesn't have to be as cumbersom as the one I threw together.

How far before you pull your weapon?

Comments like, "he shouldn't be carrying a gun" or "he will be killed before he draws" etc. are not very polite so to speak, especially since we really don't know the person. I personally don't make instant decisions about everything, it took a little time before I decided to get my permit and I asked myself alot of "what ifs" before I decided. I still go through senerios in my head from time to time, what if, what would you do, how would you do it etc. -
I wouldn't want to have to point my pistol at a family member to see who's comming down the hall, that's really my only problem with pistol lights. Anyway, it is just an idea i'm trying out, it does work to a degree.

I'm sure they didn't explain why they carry chamber loaded.

+1 People who can't respond without being smart a$$ to someone are not nearly as much of an expert about everything as they think they are. -

If I really feel i'm in a situation where I have no other option, then try to convince the cop or DA I had no other option. Better tried by 12 than carried by 6 as they say. I did draw on a mongrel psycho dog once before I saw he was on a chain, no shots fired. I had a real feeling of danger from being mauled, the dog was so much in an attack mode that when the chain caught he did a flip. I'm glad it happened though and glad I didn't have to shoot the dog, it was a good test of how fast I could draw a 1911 and disengage the safety under fear and stress. It's all up to the individual on how they feel at the time. In HPC class the instructor talked about three things that should be met, intention, capability, and opportunity. Intention, the BG says i'm going to kill you, beat you, cut you, or he shows a weapon ect. Opportunity, he's close enough to harm you or has a weapon that can harm you from any distance ect. Capability, anyone physically capable of causing you harm. Might not want to shoot the 80 year old lady swinging her purse at you. -
It wouldn't have to be a glove, just a slip on elastic strap and a smaller light would be nice. I do know that I can keep a strong two handed grip on my handgun with a good light pointed in the same direction. I like not having to hold an object in my left hand if checking something out.
-
When I first started carrying I was a little apprehensive about carrying with the chamber loaded but not anymore. I just convinced myself that guns only fire when you pull the trigger.
-
Burce Lee? But the way I heard the story is that someone had fired a load with no powder, just a primer and a .44 bullet was lodged in the barrell or, someone had inserted a .44 bullet in the barrel intentually. Correction; Brandon Lee.
-
Well every situation is different, I may not have time or remember to put it on if I need my handgun fast but I do believe they heavy doors and locks I have, there will be alot of noise and commotion if someone breaks in. The glove would be an item where you have a second or two. The glove I used is spandex and it slips on pretty fast, maybe one could be made that isn't so much of a glove but a more simple slip on strap of some sort. One thing I do know, the glove is more stable and less awkward than trying to hold a light between your fingers and keep a two handed grip on your handgun, I never found that perfect way, or perfect light. You make a good point about practicing at night but I don't have to set alarms since I get up at least two times in the middle of the night.
-
I just thought I would like to have the option of pointing the light without having to point my weapon in the same direction. I practiced that a little outside, it didn't take too long to get my grip and sight picture back. I guess a LEO is trained never to take his eyes off the weapon when clearing a house.
-
It would be nice to have a pressure switch without using your gun hand to turn it on or off, and it's another step to put the glove on if you hear something go bump in the night. I will keep the light always in the glove and use it for anything I need a light for. I want to make a better one, this one is kind of a prototype I guess.

Not looking too good for Doug Jackson tonight...
K191145 replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I'm surprised Jackson lost. The "Jackson" name always held alot of weight in Dickson. Most people who voted for the other guy had no idea who he was or where he stood, they just wanted to replace the "D" with an "R". -
I know the past law was that to ban guns anywhere on the property, clear readable signs must be posted at all entrances to the parking area of the property. I've known that St. Thomas was a prohibited area for a long time but to read their small print sign on the road around the hospital, you would have to come to a full stop, blocking several cars of traffic and take at least a minute to read all the rules while people are road raging behind you.

I unloaded my Glock and walked around in my side yard practicing a handgun defensive situation, the flashlight glove works great. It's not a sharp beam like a Maglite but it really lights up the area, enough to get a sight picture with your front and rear sight. I'm going to make a better one later, with a better glove and a light with a sharper beam.

Thanks. I found this one advertized for work but can't find any shooters light gloves. EZ-FIT
