  1. Same gun would be an H&R Topper. My very first gun was an H&R .410 so I have a soft spot for them. I would like to have a NEF Handi Rifle in either .270 or .308 someday, I hear they are very accurate. The H&R/NEF single shot break action shotguns are of good quality, strong, and as simple as you can get.
  2. Good luck on your class. I try not to use the CCW term anymore, the correct term is HCP class.
  3. I've never heard anyone brag about their Glock being pretty. The chance of pulling the trigger while catching a falling handgun are far greater than it discharging from hitting the ground so I will let it hit the ground. That's unless someone carries a 19th century era SA revolver with all chambers loaded. Also some 1911's with no firing pin block but I would think the impact would have to be fairly hard.
  4. If i'm on a boat I may think about a lanyard of some type, or carry a cheapo.
  5. One of those might be the ticket, I had thought about making a Glock out of a 2x6. This is something i've told people who are not very familiar with handguns, don't catch it, let it hit the floor. And also, don't drop it. Actual practice will help more in making that quick decision more instinctive.
  6. I have done the same thing a few times soldering copper fittings but had to get burned a time or two, I just want to make sure I never shoot myself by making the mistake of grabbing at a loaded handgun. I agree it's more dangerous to grab a falling Glock but I don't want to grab any falling handgun, safety or not. I have told myself to let it hit the floor over and over in my mind.
  7. First of all I try very hard NOT to drop my handgun and haven't done that, yet, but i'm human and capable of mistakes. I have had a 1911 fall out of a crappy shoulder holster while bending over but that was the last time I ever used that holster. I have taken no formal classes except for the HCP class but I do practice a few situational drills, and drawing drills with and unloaded weapon, I know that practice both mental and physical will make certain habits instinctive, just like driving no one thinks about turning the wheel to negoatiate a turn, they just do it. Now like I said i'm human and capable of mistakes so I remembered the terrible incident of the police officer not long ago who retrieved his Glock holstered from a jail locker, the Glock fell out of the holster and just like most of us it's instinctive to grab at an object that's been dropped. Well he grabbed the Glock and shot himself in the femoral artery, lived but I believe lost his leg. So I don't know if it sounds silly or not but I plan on getting a toy plastic gun and an oversized holster, letting it fall out and practice bringing my hands up and stepping back allowing the gun to hit the floor. The whole idea is to get the instinct of grabbing at a falling object (handgun) out of my mind and replace it with allowing it to hit the floor. Please educate me if there's already a drill to cover that situation.
  8. Just say EEEWWW, you have a booger hanging off your nose, then walk away.
  9. I wont say anything that would could be used against me later on, any statement would be as basic and generic as possible about the situation. I don't know any criminal defense lawyers but I do know someone I could contact that would set me up quickly with a sharp minded lawyer if I needed one and I WOULD advise them of the event, just in case. Of course I know every situation is different and not all will be cut and dry, if there's alot of grey area and they carried you in then I would definatly keep my mouth shut. Now I can sit here and say I would do this and that but we are never 100% sure of what we would do in a real situation if it's never happened to you, I just hope I can be somewhat calm and smart about it.
  10. I guess it would be a good idea to "know" a lawyer, but if the police and DA officially rules the self defense shooting justified I wouldn't think you would need one. I plan on just telling the police what happened and I felt my life was in danger and nothing else. Now if I lived in California or New England it might be a different matter and I may just be assuming but, I think local police will lean to the side of the law abiding permit holder rather than the dead perp with a mile long rap sheet and a weapon. At least the cops I know would. It may be a dumb move but I'll talk and just say how I felt and the situation that made my decision, nothing else. If I feel like they are trying to get me to admit to any fault then I'll demand a lawyer. I also know better that to make really dumb statements like, " yea, that scumbag gang banger pulled that frog sticker on me and I had to pump some lead in him." I'll just basically say that the guy was comming at me with a knife to stab me and I had to draw my weapon and fire.
  11. I started carrying because I did HVAC service and installation often in high crime areas of Nashville back in the 90's. But also, and I think it's true for many of us here that there are personal beliefs and principals about the Constitution, Bill Of Rights, and Individual rights that makes us want to carry, (simply exercising our 2nd Amendment rights). It's making a political statement showing that we value the traditional and true American principals and attitudes shared and valued by our founding fathers. And also the self defense aspect of carrying a firearm.
  12. Thanks for the answer, it seems that if you were busted for a gun in your vehicle you would have a legal defense although it would be an ordeal. I'm not one to be obvious about having a gun in my vehicle but you can always have a fender bender in a parking lot that may require a police report, then they find out about your permit and a gun in the vehicle. Is there any law on the book that's clear and simple to understand and can only be interpreted one way?
  13. Holy Thread Reserection Batman: But here's my question for Fallguy. Bellevue Recreation Center and Metro Davidson County Library on Colice Jeanne Rd. has a no weapons sign in their parking lot but according to TCA 39-17-1311, But 39-17-1311 also states this, The way I read this it is the same as for schools, if I drop a family member off at a class at the metro rec center, I am not violating the law by leaving my handgun locked in my vehicle while I help them in with their supplies as long as I don't stay. Is that correct?
  14. Be sure to get the ported model to reduce felt recoil.
  15. I can't see any real practical reason for having one, it's a novelty item as you said but if someone has the money to spend on it then go for it. I can think of a hundred other guns I would rather buy.
  16. Call your organization a militia and chances are that soon some undercover FBI agent will want to join.

  18. There's already been a thread a while back. http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/2nd-amendment-issues/46157-web-site-shows-restaurants-bars-where-guns-arent-allowed-tn.html
  19. I'm just assuming but, as long as they don't violate any firearms laws and don't make threats to kill anyone or overthrow the government, it's perfectly legal to start your own militia.
  20. I've never seen that demo before, it's very educational. Thank you for posting that.
  21. Can't find a holster for your handgun, just make one. Not factory pretty, cut out with a box cutter and handstiched but it's strong and holds the gun tight. No thumb break strap either. Had to have a gunbelt too.
  22. I haven't read all 23 pages of this thread but i'm sure it has been mentioned that since other states require a permit to carry, I would want the permit process in TN to continue just for carry in other states, but in Tennessee, every citizen who is a non-felon and hasn't been committed to a mental hospital should be able to exercise their right to carry without any permit. JM2cents.
  23. And by all means ban ASSAULT SPEECH.
  24. The Pancake style holster is my favorite and the most comfortable for me. My holster for my SP101 has no strap and is tight enough but when I had my Kimber full size 1911 I had a Galco pancake with the thumb break. I practiced drawing alot with it and got used to it but I would prefer a strapless holster now. I'm going to make a pancake holster for my Glock 21SF with the picitiny rail, and since I don't have all the cool leather tools and skills right now, i'm going to make it with a thumb break retention. If it's secure enough I may remove it. Could leave it a little loose and add a tightening screw like i've seen on some holsters.
  25. Years ago I gave my nefew a Finn that someone had modified, cut the handguard off. Now he's a big collector of them and searched and found the proper Finn stock and upper guard to be as original as possible. Well he gave me a very nice Mosin this Christmas a 91/30 Izhevsk/Russian. Now all I have to do is get some good gun scrubber, I think i'll try to find Tetra brand and see how that works. There's alot of storage grease and Cosmoline to clean off but i'm looking forward to shooting it. I already have a Polish M44 which by the way has the smoothest reciever and stock i've seen on any Mosin.
