    whats the deal?

My tomatoes are loving this heat, they are taking a big growth spurt. When it gets back to the mid 80s again it will not seem so hot.
  2. Haven't searched to see if there was a thread about everybody's favorite quotes by whomever you admire, or just like their quotes but i'll start one. I found these Will Rogers quotes a while back that were pretty clever. Don't squat with your spurs on. Good judgment comes from experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgment. Lettin' the cat outta the bag is a whole lot easier'n puttin' it back in. If you're ridin' ahead of the herd, take a look back every now and then to make sure it's still there. If you get to thinkin' you're a person of some influence, try orderin' somebody else's dog around. After eating an entire bull, a mountain lion felt so good he started roaring. He kept it up until a hunter came along and shot him. The moral: When you're full of bull, keep your mouth shut. There's two theories to arguin' with a woman. Neither one works. When you give a lesson in meanness to a critter or a person, don't be surprised if they learn their lesson. The quickest way to double your money is to fold it over and put it back in your pocket. Never miss a good chance to shut up.
  3. I love shooting them also but after having a disc removed and two vertibrea fused together and another buldging disc in my neck, hard kicking high power rifles can be a pain nowadays. Still doesn't stop me though. The old Mosin 91-30, a heavy long barreled relic that takes a real man just to cycle the bolt and takes two hours to scrub all the cosmo off at first including using a drill and brush to scrub the chamber but, I think they are a cool looking rifle, some can be as accurate as most anything new and best yet, you can buy them all day for $100 to $150 and you can find cheap bulk ammo. My brother will tell you that they make an effective rifle to kill a deer with. He has a mounted 10pt. on his wall he shot with a shortened Remington Mosin made in 1917.
  4. I saw R. Lee Ermy shoot a Pederson Device on his old show Mail Call, the ammo was WW1 era of course. It fired all rounds with no malfunctions, I was impressed that such a strange/old device with such old ammo would work that good. I no longer worry about storing ammo for long peroids of time.
  5. Make you one of these, it aint purdy but it works great if you shoot it alot. The pad itself is made out of plumbing pipe insulation covered with thin leather and is the most comfortable, shock absorbing pad i've ever used. I never understood why some high dollar recoil pads are almost as hard as a plastic butt plate. Plus it's no perminant modification to the rifle and fits all Mosins.
  6. There is no actual danger in them (anti-gun dolts), getting any gun control legislation passed in Tennessee, some rep or senator can always introduce legislation but it will go nowhere like if a rep introduced tax reduction legislation in San Fransisco. They probably will use UTC funds to fund their little summit/meeting because liberals will decide how the money is used and of course they think they are more intelligent than anyone else on the planet. What's funny is that most of them will believe they can actually accomplish something besides having a usless pep rally. I'm all for voicing your opinion but it's not going to change anyones mind on the issue, most that will attend are already anti-gun. The best way to counter demonstrate these dolts would be to find some gun friendly private property as close as possible and hold some kind of friends of the NRA or GOA or a TFA picnic at the same time. Being private property there's no concern over local parks laws and HCP holders can open carry and have displays of new firearms on the market, invite a few pro-gun reps and senators to speak.
  7. Yep, the lyrics are, D D DING DING DING DING DING DING DING.
  8. For those of us who don't have the patients to save to buy an expensive evil black gun.
  9. Tell them they can limit the capacity of "clips" to 10 rounds. Is there any "clip" out there that will hold more than 10 rounds? Garand clip 8, old bolt action guns 5, SKS clips will hold 10 and that's the largest capacity "clip" i've seen.
  10. The only way I could ever tell is using an amp meter to see which element is working, then check the element to see if it's the stat or the element. I wasn't a plumber but have connected the gas pipe and vent to many a gas water heater. If my WH was in a different area of the house I would definatly have gas. One of the best things about gas WH's is that if you loose power you still have hot water. The only problems with gas is the home owners who don't know how to light a pilot light, and if they are installed in the garage, the home owners who place there can of lawnmower gasoline right next to it even though they are supposed to be installed 18" off the floor. They need a gasoling buster sign on them, that's sure to work.
  11. No way to predict when that's going to happen. Lucky for me I guess mine developed a very small leak and I was able to drain it before it soaked everything.
  12. There's usually no indication on a water heater stat, either they lock open and wont heat the water or lock closed and over heat, locking closed is the worst senerio of course. What are you making the holster for? I would be interested in seeing how you made it, I made a holster for my Glock 21 with that silly picitinny rail, it's not factory quality stitching but it's thick leather and as strong as any factory made holster.
  13. Gun powder doesn't expload, it burns. I guess it wouldn't hurt to add some Desiccant packs of some kind in the ammo box. I saw R. Lee Ermy on Mail Call shoot some WW1 era ammo from a Pederson device attached to a Springfield 1903, every round fired and there were no malfunctions. After seeing that I stopped worring about old ammo. When me and my nefew shoot Mosin Nagants, most all of the ammo was stored in a sealed can made in the 70's or earlier and have no problems with it.
  14. Your right, made in Spain. I must have been thinking about some Aguila .38 rounds I have. Aguila is made in Mexico.
  15. We also shot up alot of old stuff I had, some from the 70's where the brass turned blackish, and some new Remington high brass #2 shot. All brands of different sized shot and power, all ejected fine in both guns except the bulk alloy based Winchesters. It's logical to say the problem is with the ammo. As for the .410, it may not be with the Rio shells but some other brand that stuck in the chamber. I'll have to shoot it more, I know it was a low brass load that was sticking.
  16. My nefew and I were shooting up a box of some cheap Winchester target loads, he was shooting his 870 and I was shooting my Stoeger double. These shells wern't brass but aluminum and I had to force the action open to extract the spent shells. Ejecting the spent shells from his 870 had more tension than the shells we shot with brass. My guess is that the aluminum swells in the chamber after being fired. No more of that cheap crap in my guns. Has anyone else experienced that with aluminum based shells? I also have some Rio .410 shells that don't eject in my single shot .410 and they are brass based. I have to tap them with a rod to eject them. All other shells eject fine. Rio is Mexican cheap ammo, I wonder if the brass is too thin on them. It's worth it to spend a few extra bucks to buy decent ammo.
  17. How about this?
  18. I was watching it late last night, seeing the tsunami videos breaks youe heart knowing that thousands are dying. Now I heard that one of their nuclear plants is probably melting down.
  19. This is the quake and all the aftershocks. Unreal isn't it? The smallest squares are still 5. treamors.
  20. Here's what our RINO Governor, former member of Bloombergs (Mayors Against Illegal Guns) had to say about the bill. His Anti-2nd Amendment colors are showing. www.wkrn.com/story/14212697/u-t-vote-doesnt-deter-senators-gun-bill From the artical. Makes you wonder about the parking lot bill and what he will say about that. My hope is that Bozo Haslam will be over ridden and embarrassed a few times to put him in his place. I'm glad I didn't vote for the clown.
  21. I've always prefered a Pancake style holster covered with a long untucked shirt.
  22. Years ago I gave my nefew a Finn Mosin and got him addicted, last Christmas he gave me a 91-30 to go with my M-44. We shoot about 200 rounds of 7.62x54R every 2 months, he has I think 8 Mosin Nagant rifles now, Finns, sniper 91-30, M-38, M-44, Tula's, Ivacantspellit's, ect, and just recently a Nagant revolver. We shoot so many rounds out of them I made us slip on recoil pads(not a perminent modification). The pad itself is made of foam pipe insulation covered with thin leather and is the most comfortable i've ever used. The pad I made for him is nicer looking than this one but they are functional. The pad I made for him. I like the buckle better than the lace.
  23. That's a rifle/flame thrower combo.
  24. What's cool about the M-44s is the fireball from the muzzel when you shoot them. From what I have heard and believe is true is that because of their shorter barrel not all of the powder burns inside the barrel like the 91-30s and some is still igniting after the bullet leaves the barrel. Shoot it in low light. I have a Polish 1952 made M-44 in beautiful shape. Also, most of the surpluse ammo has corrosive primers so be sure to clean it well with a good solvent the same day you shoot it. I clean mine before I leave the range. And, clean it well before the first time you shoot it and really scrub the chamber, it was stored with cosmoline and emptys will be very hard to eject if there's the slightest bit of cosmo in the chamber. That's been true for every Mosin I've ever had. I take a nylon bore brush for a 20guage and one section of cleaning rod, put in in my drill, soak it with solvent and go to town in the chamber. There are several good YOUTUBE videos, just search cleaning the chamber of the Mosin Nagant. I personally choose to use a nylon brush because of using a drill but some say a brass brush is fine. That does solve the sticky ejection problem in my experience with Mosins. Have fun with your Mosin Nagant.
