Tennessean writing about CCW reciprocity laws
K191145 replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
2nd Amendment arguments aside, it seems that all HCP holders here agree that it was the womans responsibity to know the laws of the states she travels in. Ignorance of the law is no excuse I have heard. That said I have no desire to visit NYC or Chicago but for some reason I have to, i'll leave my firearms at home. Every instructor who teaches a carry class should at least direct their students to information or websites concerning gun laws and reciprocity agreements between the states. Here's two good websites current on gun laws of each state. Handgunlaw.us Homeland Security works best with legally armed citizens Legally armed will advise you as to what state has a reciprocity agreement or honors Tennessee permits. -
I want a Glock 21 double action 13 shot with an extra magizine. Youll shoot your ass off kid. Christmas Story hands down.

Merry Christmas to everyone @ TGO.

I never used to be a doomsayer or conspiracy theorist but from what's been happening in the last decade with the economy and events in the Middle East and the rise again of the Soviet Union, etc. etc. etc., I really believe we are headed for some real tough times.

EU bans claim that water can prevent dehydration - Telegraph If a bottled water manufacturer claims that "WATER CAN PREVENT DEHYDRATION", they can recieve 2 years in jail, probably more time than a wife beater or child abuser over there. Power addicted sociopathic meglomaniac control freaks, and a few more words come to mind when I think of morons in charge there. This is what Obama worshiping liberals want to pattern America after.

St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville
K191145 replied to Westwindmike's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I don't know of anyone who has been arrested either. I really don't know exactly what St.Thomas's says, you can't read it unless you stop your vehicle right beside it and if you do that you will cause road rage from the 5 cars behind you going down the same road. -
Anytime some research artical or report cites Brady or VPC or Mayors Against Illegal Guns as factual data, the report or artical automatically becomes opinion and unqualified as being a factual/credible report. You might as well trust Al Jezera to do a credible report on Jewish/Palistinian issues. Anyway, if Tennessee has a high occurance of gun crime it has nothing to do with gun ownership, it has everything to do with cities like Memphis and Nashville with large areas of poor getto neighborhoods, gangs and drugs etc. Any city with a high crime rate will have a high occurance of gun crime no matter what their gun laws are, parts of Chicago, L.A., Detroit im sure have a high occurance of gun crime simply because they have a high occurance of crime itself like Memphis.

St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville
K191145 replied to Westwindmike's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Old thread resurection. With the new law, doesn't St.Thomas have to show a gun buster sign before they can prosecute you? I have no intention of wearing my gun inside the building, just wondering with the new law if their little sign with small lettering that's impossible to read while going down that road with traffic behind you is still legally binding. -
Experience doesn't mean squat these days so why not elect the cute chick? Millions of dolts in America voted for a Senator with just a few months of experience for the highest office in the country only because he's black. If they just have to elect a black person, Condi Rice would have been 1000 times better and more experienced than Comrade Obama, I would have been alot more excited to vote for her than mcCain. I don't blame her for not wanting anything to do with politics anymore but I sure wish she would have ran against that Socialist Chicago Thug in 08. Anyway, with Memphis the way it is, can the cute chick really screw it up any worse?

I did for a while, I have the 9x18. The Makarov doesn't have the prettiest finish on a handgun but it was built to work and it does that very well, I have all the confidence there is in its reliability. I have shot about 500 to 700 rounds out of mine which isn't alot but enough to know how it will function and it NEVER malfunctioned, even with the cheapest/dirtiest Russian ammo. I always felt the .380 and 9x18 was a little under powered but besides that I had no problem carrying a Makarov, maybe my ideas on caliber choice are old fasion these days.

I have the Polish M44, it has the smoothest finish, best bluing and smoothest action of any Mosin Nagant I have ever shot. It is what it is, a carbine military rifle so it can't be compared to a modern hunting rifle but it was the best $75 I ever spent. I haven't shot it enough to really try to dial it in or adjust the front site but I can hit a paper plate at 100 yards so I can kill a deer with it if I have no scoped Rem700. I haven't had a rifle I hated or could call a worst rifle and my M44 was cheap and is fun to shoot so it's far from a worst rifle to me.

These so-called reality shows have alot of added acted drama. Top Shot seems to have the least but all I have seen still add an extra element of drama and phonyness and some are just sitcoms with no reality like Operation Repo. Top Shot seems to be genuine for the most part but as Tn Outlaw said you don't see most of what really goes on. Jake does seem to have some emotional issues, he is a control freak who can handle rejection. I don't know what his rank was when he left the military but when a military person re-enters civilian life they need to also leave certain military attitudes behind. You can't treat civilians like your troops, many will let you know it real quick.

Well I hope he is treated just like anyone else and not favored because of his political status which means a heafty fine, 48hours of jail or public service(road trash pickup), and a suspension of his HCP and drivers license. When that happens we can argue to rabid anti-carry zealots that the law worked and remind them that restaurant owners who serve alcohol to CAR OWNERS have contributed to more deaths and injuries than HCP holders ever will.
-
I'm assuming that he will loose his permit for a while and if he's convicted of DUI, it's proof that the law works. You're right about not having any real affect on carry laws, the general public will forget about it after a while. The media will hype it up now but even they will loose interest after everybody else does just like all the hype over the carry in restaurants bill when it was passed. I'll tell anyone reasonable that Curry driving a vehicle while intoxicated is far more dangerous than having a handgun in his car, and if he looses his permit and is convicted of DUI then the law is working as intended.

I clean up all my targets and trash before I leave the Cheatham range. BTW, any old timer Tennesseans remember this? tennessee trash - YouTube

My G-21 has an ambidextrious mag release and had the same problem except the mag would eject compleatly from the gun and hit the floor. That was caused by something pressing against the holster like certain chairs, I cut notches in the holster around the mag release button and it cured that. I was wondering how far the mag release button extends from your XD. I know the mag release button on a Glock sticks out from the grip and isn't protected that well from unintended releases.

Unless you use grease regularly as a lube, eventually it will be cleaned off after shooting and cleaning over a peroid of time.
-
I have heard about a proceedure where you make a tight lead plug and push it through the barrel, basically filling in the pitting with lead. I'm not going through that much trouble but i'll look for some non-jacketed ammo to shoot through it.
-
The shows are still the best at finding specialty items and accessories, hard to find ammo etc. Sorry to hear about Bill passing, I do enjoy his shows.
-
I cleaned it off my 21 when I got it but I never used grease before, always used oil. I over clean it anyway.
-
I didn't think it would be dangerous but wanted some other opinions, thanks. It locks up tight and found my old .35 caliber dowel rod to drop down the barrel while holding the trigger in, it doesn't catch any part of the cylinder, don't know where I saw that before but it seemed a good way to check the timing. Anyway I would just like to make sure it shoots, i'm going to make my brother pay for the ammo though, bet I can find some at the next gun show.

I posted about this old pistol in the C&R forum but I need some info/advice on how bad a barrel can be pitted before it's unsafe to shoot. It's my brothers pistol, it's a 1908 Colt Police Positive .38, not .38special but Colt.38 or you can shoot S&W.38 in it. Mechanically it seems fine but I really studied the barrel tonight and the pitting is worse than I thought. I worked on it for a while with solvent and brush but of course that doesn't cure pitting, I just wanted to make sure there was no more lead fouling or surface rust. I don't care about it affecting accuracy, I would just like to shoot it, I know .38S&W is a low pressure round and I can't see the barrell failing but I would like to be sure it's safe. I never had a firearm with a barrel pitted that bad before.
-
I said I wouldn't do it but last time I renewed I mailed it in, I was afraid I wouldn't get my new permit before the old one expired but I got it in just a couple of weeks. Sure beats hanging out for half a day at the DMV.

This would be funny if it weren't so ridiculous!
K191145 replied to E4 No More's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
It's hard to tell the difference between the two parties now, both licking the boots of the independents or middle of the road voters who want to have everything both ways. -
Probably hoping he will start melting.
