    Detective Special

Yeah. A little homedone engraving probable cuts the value in half. A real shame to deface a fine Colt like that.
  2. Some friends and I decided to go hiking today. I like your choice of friends.
  3. Thanks for a great link. I knew about Pershing in the Phillipines, but not in such detail. I believe this expedition was what brought about the adoption of the .45 acp and the 1911. They needed the "knockdown" power of the .45 vs the puny .38.
  4. Unfortunately, I'm old enough to remember the early 70's before "clean" unleaded gasoline. I remember coming north on I-75 south of Atlanta you could see the huge cloud of yellow smog about 30+ miles before you got to I-285. Chattanooga was worse, just on a smaller scale. Crossing Missionary Ridge on I-24, you couldn't see downtown for the smog. Pollution controls have definitely improved air quality.
  5. Welcome aboard.
  6. I took my HCP course from Mr. Dodd several years ago. He was very knowledgeable and professional. He is also a d*** good IDPA shooter too.
  7. Welcome from another Hamilton Countian.
  8. I've used them 3 times. Always excellent work (cleanest bodyshop I've seen) and done in a timely fashion. If I need body work again, Reddick's is where I go.
  9. If anyone has, I wouldn't want to meet them. I also doubt that they would admit it.

    Stainless

    Maybe. I'd probably try Flitz.
  11. Wonder if one of those is the one the young hoodlums stole a couple of months ago?? I think they recovered it in Ft.O, don't remember if it was wrecked though.
  12. Sportsman's Warehouse is about the only one until Academy opens.
  13. Duh! I meant Brownells has Milt Sparks. I got a Comp Tac from Midway. It's hell to get old.
  14. I've got a Galco Royal Guard (horsehide) that I've had for 12+ years. My only complaint is the lack of a sweat shield on the body side. You can get a Milt Sparks from Midway in about 2 days. I have one for my 5"ers. Works great but that extra 2" & 15oz. makes it not that comfortable for all day IWB carry.
  15. Told you. Mine is more accurate than I am. When the weather warms up, we need to go shoot.
  16. Could also be a repo man or a wrecker driver.
  17. Welcome from the other side or the "mountain". Do you belong to or shoot at CHRPC? IDPA 3rd Sat., 3 gun 2nd Sat., Cowboy 4th Sat.
  18. The governor is gone, replaced by Jindell(sp). Unfortunately, the voters of NO must have thought Ray Nagin did a good job. He was reelected.
  19. The Sight 1911 .45 ACP Page Having established the almost universal agreement that the .45 ACP is an acceptable personal defense cartridge (kind of like proving the ocean is wet), are there negatives? Sure there are. For one thing, the .45 ACP is big and heavy. The same characteristic that makes it so admired by the big hole school also makes it heavy to carry and bulky, resulting in fewer rounds being available in compact handguns. A fully loaded Thompson submachine gun is fairly heavy if you have to lug it around through a hot jungle all day. Some people find the recoil of the .45 ACP punishing although I'm not one of them (I actually prefer the recoil of the .45 ACP over the recoil of the 9mm). The penetration of the .45 ACP 230-grain FMJ bullet is 26" in ballistic gelatin, making it problematic and dangerous as a personal defense load. The threat of over-penetration with the military round necessitates the use of hollow points for LEO and civilian PDW applications. Some of the older 1911 pistols don't like hollow point bullets very well and have to be throated and have their feed ramps polished for reliability. And last, there is the cost. The .45 ACP is expensive as pistol cartridges go, often $3-$4 per box more than 9mm or .38 Special Not wanting to start an argument, but .45 acp 230 gr. does some serious penetration. 26" of ballistic gel is probably more than enough to give an exit wound. If my memory is correct (and it frequently isn't), .223 only has about 1/2 that much penetration.
  20. Rented dozier for $500 for 2 days. Claimed to previous experience as heavy equipment operator.
  21. I heard this guy being interviewed on radio about 1:30 Sat. He didn't sound like a malcontent anti-establishment nut case. Whoever the radio host was proclaimed citizen of the week.
  22. Last night he had several letters oppossing his stand. He spent a few minutes back pedaling/crabbing to try and explain his position. While he is pretty conservaive/liberterien, don't forget he is a New Yorker who went to Harvard.
  23. Sportsman's Warehouse - Chatt. is having customer appreciation this week thru Sun. 10% off storewide (including ammo) 5% off firearms & optics. Didn't see any .380, but good supply of most other pistol cals.
