  1. But it only takes one :) Kids do the darnedest things sometimes. I don't know, how many you think you might try before you get bored? 15-20? Just food for thought....
  2. Gentleman is a member on another forum I frequent, many happy customers. The lock is a Simplex design, simple combo done by feel with practice. Will not suffice as a "safe" when not home. The lock can be easily defeated as there are only so many combinations. They can actually be looked up and printed.
  3. Dan Wesson is 70 series and internal extractor. For the record, Springfield actually has an extra "safety" with the ILS(internal locking system) in the mainspring housing which actually has specific springs not standard to the 1911, also the mainspring is sprung heavier in Springfields due to this. No hate for Springfield though, I love the ones I have.
  4. I'm in Any guidelines for type of gift? Just curious what other have done or what's in line, this being a firearm related forum
  5. Oh yeah, forgot, NO MIM on DW either. Not a big deal for some, love my springfields but until you get to the SA Custom Shop, they don't compare
  6. Dan Wesson. Duty coat of DW easily trumps armorykote of SA. Both good guns, DW is better Now the only caveat is if you can find a full rail TRP operator, that would be a tough one to pass up.
  7. I've shot some 178grn supers with 5744, can't remember velocity but at 400yds holdovers were similar to 500yd holdover for .223 at 3100.
  8. Kind of surprised 45colt was on the list, albeit at the bottom.
  9. Need one for the .50beowulf. It stings a bit too.
  10. I'm in West TN, didn't see a live one til 3wks ago, right in the middle of town about 9pm. I eased up on him like a speed bump, up and over, no more armadillo. 2 nights later, popped one in backyard with 300blk and supressor. They will tear your yard apart, like really big moles.
  11. Further. The old timers will tell you,"about a fingernail's width". That's above the case mouth. If you need a measurement, that's about .030. Pic below: As you can see, that's a 225grn h&g 34 and a 210grn h&g 68, the 68 is made to mimic GI ball but with reduced weight. These are loaded at same OAL. Pay close attention to the SWC, that is loaded to the lands and then seated deeper until it drops out of the barrel with gravity alone.
  12. The plunk test. Also taper crimp at the mouth should be about .471 max, I go .469. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Don't do this. It is a band aid. Proper load technique trumps the need for the pistol FCD. Standard taper crimp die was working 50yrs+ before Lee existed. Op, The problem is too much full diameter bullet above your case mouth. Your shoving it into the lands upon chambering. The plunk test is the only true way to load for "your" gun.
  14. Another great option for home use are swing top bottles. Grolsch green bottles are almost 16oz and are thick. I keep 12 here and use them often. Also, a lot of microbrew come in 22oz and are excellent for 2 American pint style glasses(12oz). Another of my favorites and VERY cost efficient is Tecate in quart(32oz) re-cappable bottles. 12oz is nice to give away but for home use, bigger is better and easier. Eta: some may look down on cheap Mexican beer, but you should look at the roots of some of these beers and you'll realize a lot of them are German in origin.
  15. For when I did all grain, used 15gal kegs converted and top lopped off. For small use, a gas fish fryer and big pot outside. Electric top stoves will caramelize malt to the bottom of the pot and will impart color and taste on every brew. If you have a gas range top, got to town in the kitchen. I only brew one normal brew anymore, an English brown. The rest are specialty beers, wassail for Christmas, colonial double porter for fall, Belgian style Hefeweizen for warm weather. Occasionally fruit or coffee beers.
  16. Check out remora holsters. Excellent quality and not terrible on price. A lot of options. http://www.remoraholsterstore.com/category-s/5484.htm
  17. Skip the Phoenix, they are junk. Hi-point gets praise but really only a few dollars off from other choices. Police trade Glocks and m&p's run around 350. Look for shops that do lay away, get what you want. There is a shop near me in Jackson that does 12month(calendar year)lay away with 20% down and minimum $5 a month to keep it active.
  18. All of it swells at the base mildly in my Glocks(g35,g29,g17). But it isn't anything that normal resizing doesn't fix. Even my hot 10mm brass survives multiple loadings.

    4 Lb AR-15

http://www.battlearmsdevelopment.com/sabertube-tm-qd-end-plate-bad-lbs-lightweight-stock-combo Might wanna check this before going with the ace stock
  20. Some supressors are worse than others with blowback. Just part of the game. Haven't really noticed brass life issues though, just dirty necks and shoulders.

    Stripped frame

Get both volumes of the following. Detail strip and re-assemble one of your current guns a bunch first. Not gonna be cheap to build. The tools can cost as much as components. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/199119/the-colt-45-automatic-a-shop-manual-volume-1-book-by-jerry-kuhnhausen
  22. Actually seems about right velocity wise with near max loads. With varget I'm in the same range with that bullet in my 18" 3gun rifle. Mine also shoots about .6. 25.4grs TAC under a 55gr gives me about 3000fps.
  23. For the record, 9mm isn't straight walled. It's tapered. You'll be rewarded by separating by headstamp, 9mm is a special creature compared to other service calibers.
  24. If a true military crimp is in place, it'll have to removed before re-priming, regardless of primer to be used.
