YEP. Sorry for the error. I just hope that the storyline doesn't take them overseas. That would be a little ... well ... far fetched imo.

Unless I read it wrong, Sons will begin airing it's 3rd season on Sept 7, 2010. Not sure where I read this but it was a firm date. As for some 3rd season speculations ..... Ever wonder why Unser is so taken with Gemma? Could he be her Father? Perhaps her Mom and him had an affair that resulted in her? Zobelle told his daughter that they were going "home". She said: "To Belfast?!?!" I'm sure that he has no idea that SOA has a chapter in that region. Could be interesting ... Jimmy O will persuade Cameron to return the child. Either by force or otherwise. The only thing that I'm in limbo about is Tara's attitude after all this. I don't think that Jax will hold her responsible.

I don't eat them ... and I can't dance ...

Not going to be a LOT of help here, because our fireplaces are bare at this moment. In the past, there WAS a gas log set in there because the pipe is in place and capped off. There is evidence that this was done at one time and that a real fire was burned afterwards. (some soot and ash residue) It appears to me that there was nothing done except to cap off the gas pipe and turn off the gas to the fireplace with the "key" that you referred to. All that said, I would strongly suggest that you consult a gas log installer before you do anything.

Get Byron South's DVDs. I know him personally and he is a GREAT guy ... not to mention that he kills coyotes in very large numbers. He's just "one of the boys" and does a fantastic job teaching. Voice of experience here: "If" you should decide to get an electronic caller, do yourself a favor and get a GOOD caller, not one of the el-cheapo jobs. They are a total waste of money. A good mouth call will do just fine, but it's far better if you can get that sound away from your position. As for the time of day, they are usually easier to call in late evening after they have been lying up during the day. Not to say that they won't or can't be called any other time, but that has been my experience.

While black coyotes have not been common in the past, they are showing up more frequently. We are seeing more and more black variations this year. In the western states where we hunt sometimes (AZ & SD), a black coyote is still a rarity. Whether it is in fact a gene from the domestic dog pool is debatable. Nonetheless ... it's cool to see.
-
Looks like they would work REALLY well ... provided you get them set up at the correct angle to the ground. I am assuming this is what you are referring to: GhostBlind, mirror hunting blind, mirror blind, invisible hunting blind; camo ground blinds, tree stands
-
EXCELLENT suggestion. I have seen hunters in a ground blind from 300 yards away. Your face lights up like a halogen spotlight! Some type of camo on the face is mandatory. Camo mask, face paint, or something to tone down your face. Your face is WHITE ... the interior is DARK ... it is a no-brainer. It also helps if you position the blind so that the sun is behind you ... NEVER in front of you shining into the blind.

Problems with Plastic Tip rounds in AR's
Hidalgo replied to leroy's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
We have 3 ARs and I have loaded everything from 40gr VMaxs to 60gr Noslers with no issues. Bear this in mind: Even a PMag is subject to being "out of spec". I've gone to Bushmaster mags on all of my rifles and have virtually eliminated any feeding issues. Lots of my friends shoot literally 1,000s of rounds every year and have found Bushmaster to be the most reliable mags. -
If you are going STRICTLY by the regulations that you posted ... then NO ... you have NOT covered the entire picture and are going to get someone in some serious trouble! What I was referring to (and said in the next post) is the fact that there are MANY times that a centerfire is illegal. And NOT simply as the regs above state. Try going coyote hunting with a centerfire on a WMA during ANY season except deer season. It is ILLEGAL. You will GO TO JAIL. I'll repeat it once again: Anyone who is going to go coyote hunting in Tennessee had better read the regulations thoroughly. If in doubt, call a game officer and inquire. This conversation and disagreement is a prime example of how difficult it is to wade through our current regulations.
-
Not true. It depends upon where you are hunting. Any WMA is rimfire only during squirrel season. And a centerfire rifle is a bad choice during turkey season also. Just ask any game officer ... It's a TOTAL mess and the State needs to clean it up and make it simpler. Before anyone goes coyote hunting in Tennessee, I would strongly suggest that they acquire a Hunting Guide and read it thoroughly. ANYTIME that you are hunting coyotes, it can be a "gray area" and legality is totally up to the Wildlife Officer's discretion and opinion. If in doubt ... call an officer beforehand and inquire directly. And be sure to write down his name for future reference if there is a problem.

I KNOW "the freakin' laws" *******. Although our coyote season is "open year-round", there are many times that you must use a rimfire to legally hunt them. If you disagree ... then YOU need to read "the freakin' laws". You're correct about a 22Mag being underpowered. And a .22LR is even moreso. But during times when rimfire is mandatory, what other choices do we have? None. As for selling hides, I have seen few in Tennessee that would bring more than $15 or so if you could even get them sold at all. Most are mangy or thin. As for the .17 Rem being ideal, similar results can be had with the .223 Rem and .204 Ruger if proper bullets are used. The .17 Rem isn't the "Holy Grail" that some coyote hunters have made it out to be. Are you by any chance a member of the "coyote gods (we worship the .17 Rem)" website?
-
Anyone who hunts coyotes in TN outside of deer season is (or had BETTER be) using a rimfire. I have taken several coyotes with a .22 but the shot has to be perfect to avoid a bad situation. Heart shots are mandatory and the ammo needs to be of the "hot" variety ... as in Velocitors, etc. Honestly, a good shotgun is a far better choice if you can get them within 25 yards or so.

Whats the best way to remove rust from a muzzle loaders bore?
Hidalgo replied to a topic in Hunting and Fishing
Like has already been said ... you might have a piece of garbage there instead of a rifle. However: I have seen rusty bores that still shot fairly well. The pits in the bore will cause an abundance of build-up ... either lead, plastic, or copper depending upon what is traveling through it. This "might" not be a problem with a muzzle-loader because you are not firing several rounds in succession. I would definitely put in some work (not money) and see what you end up with. Best wishes and good luck! -
I broil them for 25 minutes on a piece of hickory ..... ..... then throw away the squirrels and eat the hickory board. Sorry, I couldn't resist. Those critters look WAY too much like a RAT for me to eat them.

"Upgraded" is a subjective term when it comes to an AR .... Is a bull barrel without sights an "upgrade"? Is a free float tube an "upgrade"? Is an adjustable stock an "upgrade"? ARs are one of the most personal rifles in history. What I consider "standard" might be "exotic" to someone else. Front sights snag in everything they get near. And with optics installed they are only in the way. And this is just 1 example. As was said before ... do your homework and decide what you want, and NEED, before you purchase anything. Lower parts kits are pretty generic, but I can assure you that you'll want to replace the trigger that is provided. Most are total junk when it comes to accuracy because of the travel and inconsistency. Otherwise, the rest is just pins and springs. As for the upper assembly, since this is your first "build", I would also suggest that you find an upper assy that fits your needs instead of trying to build it yourself. In this particular instance, there is not much $$$ to be saved if you can purchase a complete assembly that fits your needs. MidwayUSA has great deals on upper assys when they are in stock. DPMS is quality equipment (I have 4 of theirs) and they are offered in many different configurations. AR15.Com has a thread pinned that describes (with pics) the complete assy procedure and points out several things to watch out for. As an example ... it is pretty easy to break the lower receiver when you install the trigger guard, and also the bolt catch. The thread is here: http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=4&t=226782 Good luck and welcome to the Black Rifle Club!

Leroy .. that's all great info. But you didn't FINISH the discussion and possibly left the OP (as well as possibly others) a little confused about the headspace issues ....... I'm a .38 Super addict. I know this caliber intimately. The NEW Colt pistols (as well as the Taurus, and others) actually headspace off the rim. They are void of the problems that your post comments on. Of course ... I know you were referring to older 1911s. I just wanted to clear that point up. Newer Super pistols are as accurate as anything out there in the 1911 platform. Possibly more so than many other calibers. As for a carry caliber, I trust it totally and have no issues with it in that situation. Ammunition is "usually" available for it from MidwayUSA as well as other online sellers, but at the present time it is in the same quandary as most ammunition ... none to be had. But that will change as the demand slows back down and the manufacturers catch up. Good ammo that is suitable for defense purposes is available from Winchester (Silvertip HP) and a couple of other names. If I were going to purchase a Super, I would seriously entertain learning to reload. That is the very best way to bring out the talents of this caliber. It excels in defense use with bullets from 90gr to 125gr (115 XTP bullets being my favorite), and with the proper ammo will also do well with heavier loads.

On ANY Management area, you must be a LEGAL hunter for another season in order to coyote hunt ... unless there is an exception noted (as in LBL in February). In other words ... if you are legally hunting squirrel in season, then you can take coyotes legally. If you are legally hunting deer in season, then you can take coyotes legally. If you are legally waterfowl hunting, then you can take coyotes legally. Likewise, if the area is operating a quota deer hunt, then you will need to have the appropriate permits for the deer hunt in order to be there. Although coyote season is "open" year-round, they are for the most part only available to us in what would be called a "target of opportunity" when legally hunting other game. WHY Tennessee sees fit to arrange our laws in this manner is beyond my comprehension. Other states (Texas, Montana, South Dakota, Arizona for example) have their laws structured to allow predator hunting 24/7/365 with the weapon of your choice unless you are in an area that is having a quota big game hunt or other type of managed hunt. On private property, you can hunt coyotes year-round with any firearm and only a hunting license. However, this is a gray area that can come under scrutiny from a warden if he comes upon you. (I wouldn't recommend this during deer season without a big game stamp, for example) Obviously, if you are carrying an electronic caller and broadcasting distress sounds, you are undoubtedly predator hunting. Most officers that I have talked to understand this and will not bother you. But nonetheless, it is still a very confusing issue and is usually up to the individual officer's decision as far as the legality of what you are doing. Makes PERFECT sense, huh?
-
EXCEPT during deer season, you are limited to rimfire. And if you are carrying a centerfire rifle or pistol, you had better have the proper deer hunting permits ... even if you're coyote hunting. (Except perhaps on private land) Like I said: Anyone contemplating a coyote hunt had better get a Hunting Guide and study it ... twice (at least). Our regs here are so complicated when it comes to coyote hunting that it takes a rocket scientist to figure them out.
-
Well, yeah ... usually ...

This is a huge debate in some circles ...... But the 22WMR is my choice. It has proven itself several times. The 17HMR is a good round, but won't hold a light to the Mag under these circumstances.

The definitive "THE CALL" thread... (HCP)
Hidalgo replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Or not. Mine took 6 weeks ... NO CALL. -
The biggest problem you have is our STUPID laws. Coyotes are open year-round, but there are so many stipulations and limitations on weapons that it is unGodly confusing at times. Ok ... rant over ... As far as areas to hunt, "most" of the WMAs have a stable population. Chuck Swan, Catoosa, and LBL are literally packed. The area manager at Catoosa will point you to the areas that they are using (if you ask politely) because they want them thinned out. Just be CAREFUL about when you hunt a WMA, make sure you have the proper permits, and make certain that you have the proper FIREARM. No-where, no-way, no-time can you hunt coyotes on a WMA with a centerfire rifle. You must be a properly licensed and legal deer hunter to do that. (told you our laws were awful!) Unless you are extremely familiar with the TWRA regulations on hunting coyotes, I would implore you to get a TWRA Hunting Guide and study it thoroughly. It's so complicated that some of the wardens don't even understand the laws when it comes to coyote hunting.

.380 Ammo and Ruger LCPs at Mahoney's Today
Hidalgo replied to waynesan's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Sick! ... That's just SICK! Who would use such a lame excuse to go into a gun shop !?!?!? . . . . . . . . BTW ... what's the address of that store again? Glad you got some ammo for your 380. It's getting more scarce every day it seems. -
"OFTEN" is a charitable term. I would prefer to say it is not the case "REGULARLY". Now ... before I get bashed, I will be the first to say that there are some very, very knowledgeable gun shop owners and employees. But more often than not intelligent staff are only found in the higher-end shops and the independently owned stores. "....it literally explodes when it hits you" !?!?! My advice is this: If their prices are great, keep buying there and don't ask any more questions. If their prices are poor, then quit patronizing them. They are obviously extremely short in the knowledge department.
