  1. I went to the first part of the HCP class today. Ya'll were right, it was simple. I did learn something though, it is now legal to carry a loaded firearm in your vehicle concealed or not and ready to fire. They passed the law earlier this year. I told the instructor that was why I was taking the course mainly, my Dad had been on to me about carrying a loaded gun in my truck without a permit, but I still wanted to take the course and get my permit. She even printed it off for me in case I get stopped and the LEO doesn't know the law has changed. On another note, I'm gonna do the range test with my Bersa .9mm, I have plenty of ammo and it needs to be warmed up anyway as it's been sitting for awhile. I am gonna do my best to keep aware of the new laws from here on out, lol.
  2. I have a Para Ordinance .45, bought it from a super nice TGO member, and I love it. It's the first Para i've ever owned or shot.
  3. I own two Hi-Point handguns, a 9mm and a .40cal, and trully love both of them. My .40cal may be the most accurate of all my handguns and have yet to have a failure out of either one of them. I say for a budget firearm that you are going to use as a house gun go with a Hi-Point. I'm sorry, you asked for all metal guns, both of my Hi-Points are poly.
  4. Thank you for the encouraging words. I am nowhere near as nervous about this test as I had been. It's starting to feel good to loosen up as I do want to enjoy this.
  5. Thanks for the input, I will check into this. I had decided to use my Walther .22lr just because it is light and has hardly any recoil, not to mention it's fun to shoot, but if they won't allow it I will use my Hi-Point .40cal. It's big, bulky, ugly, cheap, bulky, big, some say it's ugly, lol, but it is very accurate and a blast to shoot, not to mention I have around 475rds. of .40cal FMJ ammo. If the instructor asks do I plan on carrying the big block of USA made firearm I will tell him probably not all the time but I may carry my Bersa .40cal so I thought I would take your range test with a .40cal, it just happens to be big, bulky, ugly and cheap. I'm trying to bring some humor to this thread. I by no means am being a smart eleck jerk, just trying to make ya'll smile.
  6. What happened to carry what suits you best? The cost, brand, caliber etc... is worthless, in my opinion, if you can't place that shot where you feel it needs to be. I myself carry a Taurus .380 by choice, not because I don't know there are different brand/calibers out there or that I can't afford anything else. I carry my Taurus because I like the way it fits my hand,  I feel comfortable with it and IMO am pretty dang accurate with it. My Dad carries a Glock .40cal and that is his choice. He swears by a Glock even though I feel they're a little bulky for me. This is gonna sound funny but if I had my HCP or should say when I get my HCP I will more than likely carry my Hi-Point .40 cal even though it is huge and ugly and cheap. I love the way it shoots and to this day have had zero problems with it. Now this is JMO.
  7. Very well said. Thank you and it's good to hear you are one to help the less knowledgeable.
  8. Well, that's not the best news lol but it is what it is. I've been carrying everyday, just about everywhere I go for the last few years so I guess 3-6wks. waiting time isn't going to bother me to bad. I went down to the back this afternoon and did some shooting at the posted 3, 5 and 7 yards. I am pretty confident I will pass the range test with any gun I own. I was thinking it was going to be harder, at longer distances and smaller targets or something. A feller never really knows how he will do until he is doing it for real. The lady might be very nervous, maybe pulling the gun instead of just the trigger when she shoots or the instructor may not care for the lady and not devoting any time to helping her shoot better, I don't know. There are a lot of single women out there today that have nobody to teach them about firearms. I do wish you the best of luck on getting your permit as fast as possible and congratulations on passing the HCP class.
  9. It's that simple huh? I'm pretty confident I can pass the range test I just don't know about the paper test. I don't know what they will ask me therefore I'm trying to learn the laws, do's and don'ts of carrying etc etc.
  10. First off, thank ya'll for your advise and support. It does make me feel better when I read the words of me doing just fine, lol. I just got in from the dentist so after I eat I am going to take the 4-wheeler down to the back and do some shooting. I will let ya'll know what I decide to take the test with in a day or two. I don't have a whole lot of study/practice time as I do the first 4hrs. starting at 10:00am on Oct. 8th. I am assuming I will do the range test last. If that's true then I will have all day on Oct.9th to practice. I finish the last 4hrs. on Oct. 10th starting at 10:00am.
  11. Thank ya'll for all the information. I'm going to mark off the listed yards with some marker paint and do some shooting tomorrow with all but two of my handguns. Which ever I'm the most accurate with will be the one I practice with and use as I've got 150 to 200 rounds for each caliber. If the test required much more than 50rds. then I would worry about my hands wearing out from recoil and affecting shot placement. I have been doing some reading on the laws of firearm carry and have found out already that some of the things I've heard over the years are not true. This forum has some very very valuable information. Thanks again for all your advice and help.
  12. Well folks I finally found a HCP class!! I am so excited lol. I found a class a week or so ago but it was going to be with 5 or more people. I told the instructor I was going to try to find a one person class but would let him know three days before his class started if I was going to attend his or had found the one on one. Well, just got the news that I will be doing the one person class and just called him to let him know. He is a very nice feller and thanked me for keeping my word about letting him know. I could have done the larger class but due to my walking ability I was afraid I would hold the complete class up when we went to the range and I didn't want to do that. I will be doing this class by myself and broken up into two 4 hour classes on two different days. It's a little more costly but I don't want to make other people have to suffer and wait on me lagging behind. I have been carrying without a permit for several years. When I got myself to where I could get around a little better with my cane, I was riding a scooter, I started looking for a class close to me. Where I will be taking it is about a 35min. drive away. Please keep ya'lls fingers crossed that I pass, lol. I'm so happy I had to let ya'll know as this is an awesome community.   Ohh, almost forgot, what do ya'll think I should use for my range test? I am a pretty good shot with all my guns but I don't know how many rounds I will be firing nor do I know at what distance. I have every caliber except for a .44mag and a S&W 500. I was carrying my Kel-Tec 9mm but switched to my Taurus .380. Do ya'll think I'd be better off with my Walther .22 or maybe my Bersa .40 or just stick with the .380 I carry? That little Kel-Tec 9mm has a good amount of recoil and I don't want my hands to get tired at the end and start shooting crappy. I am going to practice, with the one I decide to take, every day, as long as the weather is good, before the test. I'm scheduled for the 8th and the 10th of October.
  13. Until I get my HCP I am carrying in my pocket so to me size and weight are the factors I use to pick my carry guns. I was carrying my Kel-Tec P9 on me with my Bersa .40 as back-up in the truck. My buddy has a Taurus .380 that he carries OWB, he has his HCP, and after shooting it I wanted one. I found a used one just like his. It had been fired one time and that was the factory test fire, and came with the bullet new in the box. I have put 300rds. through it with different brand shells and FMJ, hollow points etc... and have not had any problem what so ever. It's a tad wider than my P9 but I chose to carry it as it fits my hand better and it seems like I am more accurate with it. I feel like shot placement is the weighing factor on stopping someone that's out to harm me. I have yet to have to pull my weapon, I hope that day never comes, but if it does I am confident I can place that one shot where I feel like is going to protect me and stop the evil doer. I try to practice as often as my body will let me and as of right now the little Taurus is my pick. As far as trigger pull I don't think I will ever have time to think about it if that situation was to ever happen.
  14. I went to their website and saw the 10rd. mag but it said out of stock but I did buy 200rds. of ammo that I was getting low on, very good prices. I bought a Promag 10rd off a seller on Ebay.
  15. Thanks feller, I just bought one from a seller on Ebay but I now know where to get another one here local if need be. The members on this forum are just plain good people. I have yet to run across a negative person on here.
  16. Thank you for the link. At least now I know I can get a larger magazine.
  17. Good morning, I recently purchased a Taurus 738TCP .380. It is new in the box, the original owner got it for a Christmas present, and comes with 2-6rd magazines. Can you get a larger mag. for this gun? Maybe a 10rd.? I have searched online but I'm not having any luck. Thank ya'll for any and all help and have a wonderful day.
  18. Is the pistol type illegal? With my disability I am unable to shoot a rifle or shotgun safely. My Dad has several Glocks and he swears they're the best handgun out there today, lol. I have shot a couple of his Glocks and liked them quite a bit but out of all mine and the ones i've shot of his my Bersa .40 is my favorite. As funny as it may sound, my HI-Point .40 is the most accurate gun I own and may be I have ever owned. Is it, in my opinion, ugly, bulky and heavy, yep it is but it sure is on the money when I shoot it. I like the looks of the Kimbel AP-9 a lot but if it's illegal then it's not for me.
