I'm gonna say my Hi-Point .45 is the most reliable but I like my Para Ord. .45, which I haven't shot enough to say if it's reliable or not. So far no problems with it though.

Every gun I own has a full cylinder/magazine and one ready to fire. I don't have any children in the house either. When the kids lived at home I kept a loaded ready to fire gun on the very top shelf of our bedroom closet and also back then I didn't carry a gun at all unless going huntin.

I wanna try out this Bersa.

I have a Bersa Thunder UC .40cal and love it. It is one gun, I would say, that will be with me to the end. -
Negligent Discharge in Cordova Malco

Once again, you are correct Oh Shoot. My Cobra 9mm derringer has a safety. But he was wrong for carrying in a marked "No guns allowed" place. -
Congratulations to your Father. I took the HCP class last week and did the DMV yesterday and the fingerprints today. I hope mine comes in 14 days but the lady at the DMV said 4 to 6 weeks for me to get it in the mail.
-
Hey folks, as far as I know, I am done! I did my fingerprints today and the website where I made the appointment to have them done says I can track the progress up until I receive it in the mail. I start the waiting game now. Also, I want to thank ya'll again for giving me options where to go to and for all your help in general.

I sure am glad to hear this. I will be contacting them about a cylinder for my Blackhawk.

Thanks for the links ya'll. I printed off enough to practice with for a month lol.

Which do you prefer 9mm or 38 special for SD?
Camaro_nut2001 replied to RAJBCPA's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I agree with Leroy on the shot placement. I love my .38 S&W but to answer your question I would carry a 9mm due to mostly more rounds. If I ever have to pull my gun I'm gonna try to disable the evil do'er more so than have the time to land a shot dead on where I'm aiming. I will do my best and I practice as much as possible but if and when the time were to come I may be so torn up, nervous, however you want to call it, that I am shooting to stop and would hate to be in a confrontation and run out of ammo. Heck, the evil person or persons may be so wired up on dope that it takes more than 5-6 shots to stop them. I do like the .38special round a little better though. -
I finally got the DMV part done today and did it at the Strawplains office, just got lucky lol. I have an appointment for my fingerprints tomorrow at 1:50pm. and the lady at the DMV said it would take 4-6 weeks for it to come in the mail after fingerprinting. I wore my holster for my Bersa .40cal all day today, carried the gun in it while I was at home. I wanted to see how bad my "love handles" got in the way, lol. It feels good and had no problems with my seatbelt or anything. I probably won't carry like that alot but you never know. I'm still leaning towars concealed, in my pocket, carry.

I love his videos. I have bought, I wanna say three, handguns due to his review.

A question about my Taurus 738Tcp 380Acp
Camaro_nut2001 replied to Camaro_nut2001's topic in Handguns
I have looked for larger capacity factory made magazines for both guns and couldn't find any. That's why I went with the ProMag brand. I do use my Taurus TCP .380 as a carry gun in my truck but not with the aftermarket magazine. I carry two fully loaded 6rd factory mags with it. On another note, I broke my Kel-Tec down completely, polished the feed ramp and cleaned everything really good and now the ProMag magazine works by racking with my hand. I plan on doing some shooting this weekend, if the rain holds off, and will post my results. Thanks for your help. -

I have never heard of them until now but I will do a search on Amazon and Ebay and see if I can find any. Thanks. -
Hello there neighbor, thanks for your help.

Until I get my HCP I will always have a gun in my truck, locked, loaded and ready to fire. At home, inside I have one in arms reach of anywhere I am at whether it be in the bathroom, laundry room or even getting clothes out of the closets. I have certain spots for each room. Outside I have either one of my 9mm's or .40cal's on me at all times and have a .38 in one garage and a 9mm in the other one. I have slipped up and found I had my Cobra .9mm derringer in my pocket while in a store or something a few times and didn't like the "what if LEO see's it" feeling. I am hoping to have my permit very soon and when it comes I will probably have a couple on me at all times, where it's legal mind you. I haven't decided yet whether I will carry concealed or not but am leaning toward concealed. This world isn't what it was when I was growing up. My Dad has always hunted and taught me everything I know about firearm safety, even though he made me take the hunter safety course, and took me hunting almost every sat. morning when I was growing up. Never once did he mention anything about using one for personal protection, other than from snakes or wild boars. I do remember he kept a revolver in his magazine rack next to the recliner but I don't think I ever asked him why. I just knew not to touch it and I didn't. Times have sure changed now and sometimes at Sunday dinner we talk about the "good old days". He has his HCP, has for years, but only carries if they go on trips, vacations, camping etc... but, he still has the same magazine rack next to his different recliner and instead of his revolver, which he still has, he has his .40caliber Glock in it. You know, I think he still has my first gun, a single shot 20ga. If I can think of it Sunday I will ask him, I would love to see it again.

I'm scheduled for my HCP class

Thanks HiPower, I'm looking forward to Sunday. -
Thanks Oh Shoot. I will check into the Maryville one as I think it might be closest to me. I heard there is one in Morristown also.

Thank you.

I finished my HCP class friday and went to the Strawplains DMV to pay my $115.00 and get the list to go get finger printed. When I pulled up there was a line out on to the sidewalk. There is no way possible my body will let me stand up anywhere near that long, not to mention my depends would be full and I would be soaked with urine way before I got in the door. I have to self cath due to my injury back in 2007. Is there any other place I can go to get this last step of getting my HCP done? I have tried to find if I can do it online but have had no luck. I live in Knox County so I assume I have to go to the DMV in the county I live in, is this correct? I don't know how I'm going to get this done other than buy a wheelchair and then I don't know how I will catheter while in line.

Problems with ProMag brand magazines
Camaro_nut2001 replied to Camaro_nut2001's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
Thank you, I was afraid of that. What, if anything, can I do to try and improve them? I don't want to just throw em away. If I have to though I guess they could be used for very very expensive targets and throw them away in small fragments. -
Hello, I recently bought a couple of 10rd. ProMag magazines, from a seller on Ebay, for my Taurus 738TCP .380 and one for my Kel Tec PF9. I tried both the .380 mags and they failed to feed right off the bat. I then loaded up the ProMag I bought for my Kel Tec PF9 and it did the same exact thing. I have compared the lengths to the factory mags and they look the same. The only thing I have noticed is the ammo looks like it sits higher in the gun with the slide locked back. I'm not exactly sure on this as my eyes are getting worse. Is this a common issue with these magazines and if so is there a fix? I really don't like the thought of throwing that much money away, lol.

A question about my Taurus 738Tcp 380Acp
Camaro_nut2001 replied to Camaro_nut2001's topic in Handguns
Well, like I said earlier, I bought a couple of ProMag magazines, two for my Taurus .380 and one for my Kel-Tec PF9 and all three magazines have the same problem. Fire one time and the next one jambs. Are there any mods I need to do to run the ProMags? -
I'm scheduled for my HCP class
Camaro_nut2001 replied to Camaro_nut2001's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I finished my class today and passed. I scored a 97 on the written test, missed one question, and scored 100 on the range. The target was so close and big, 3yds, 5yds and 7yds, I thought about drawing a smiley face with my shot placements, just kidding. I decided on taking my Walther .22 to do the range test. She gave me a certificate of completion and let me bring my target paper home. I had to aim at different areas just so I could see where I shot as I was making a big hole in the center. Fifty rounds of .22lr hitting in the same spot will make one huge hole. I don't know why I was so worried I would fail it. But, even though it was so simple, I am still proud of myself and I bought a 50rd. box of shells from the place just to support them. Monday is a holiday so it will be Tuesday, if the good Lord is willing, before I can go to the DMV to pay their fee and get the paper showing where to get my fingerprints done, then she said I should have my HCP in the mail in about 3wks or so. For anyone that is ready to take the class try not to worry to much, it really is a piece of cake. Also I want to say Thank you to all that responded to this thread, it really helped me prepare. -

Well, I hadn't thought of it that way but I guess I did. You do have a point and yes, I was breaking the law no excuses, my Dad stayed on me about it, but... I feel like I am a responseable adult and if she had asked I would have told her the truth. I am both surprized and very thankful that Tennessee did change the law.
