  1. Well, in my experience they have proven to be WAY more reliable than any standard extractor that I have used through the years. After an extractor is made it will always want to go back to its original shape. So, if you have an extractor that when it is first dropped in, has the proper tension on it, it will run and run for a very long time. However, most all need some tweaking. And those will eventually get back to where they were originally after some time. The only way around this is to tune it and then temper it again. The aftec just doesn't need all that and just runs and runs as long as it is installed properly. I'll drop new springs in them between 5-10k but that is it. But to each their own.
  2. BTW, if you are going to replace the extractor I would really recommend an Aftec extractor. The Ed Brown and Wilson are good too but the Aftec really eliminates the need for future tuning because of the design. Aftec Advanced Competition Extractor
  3. Yes, that is a very good way to ruin the tuning of the extractor.
  4. Here is a quick test you can do to help identify if it is the extractor. Extractor Tuning Tips
  5. From what you describe it sounds like the extractor needs tuning. It sounds like there is not enough pressure on the case.
  6. I like the deer horn drawer handles.
  7. Here are some pics of my setup. I just built the shelving unit for all our shooting bags.
  8. +1 I chamfer all my hunting and varmint loads and load just as Leroy describes. In fact when I'm really trying to build a tack driving load, I mostly fire form my brass, then trim, then neck size, then chamfer and so on. On a progressive press for pistol rounds I use a EGW undersize sizing die that sizes further down on the case than normal and gets rid of any glock bulge, I bell the mouth of the case before seating the bullet and then my crimp die is a Lee factory crimp die that as well as crimping the round it sizes the entire round once again. With this combo, chamber checking rounds is almost an exercise in futility. It totally rocks.
  9. OK, IN GENERAL there is no good reason to use chamfer tool if you are reloading pistol rounds (40,45,9mm etc.). It is a complete waste of time. The only exception is if you are loading for extreme accuracy. I load and shoot approx 15-20K rounds a year (mostly all 40 and 45) and my ammo will print as good or better than any factory ammo at 25 or 50 yards. The only thing you may want to do is buy and use a chamber check so that no fat rounds cause a jam. Now, loading for extreme accuracy in a rifle or hunting pistol where you might take really long shots is a total different matter.
  10. Went to the range. The P238 ran great. It was acccurate and sights were very usable.
  11. Well, it is pretty close to the mustang, but the geometry of the barrel function and the way it locks up are completely different. That I think will help reliability wise. The extractor may need adjusted like on so many factory 1911s but that is easy to fix. I just picked mine up today from G&L and will be going to the range tomorrow. I'll let you all know what happens.
  12. Travis is a great guy. I have had the pleasure of being squaded with him at several matches the last couple of years and although he is a champion among champions he is humble and very friendly. I was so happy when he won the nationals last year. And yes he has an awesome reload.
  13. Bob rocks. Does great pistol smithing as well.
  14. I was told that back when the HCP law first past that a bunch of counties tried to pass their own regulations to not recognize the state issued HCPs. Shortly after, the state passed a law that says all state firearm laws supersede county law making those county laws useless pieces of paper. So, if that is the case this again will be much to do about nothing. This is a firearm law not a beer law.
  15. I just wish they would go back to STOCK car racing pretty much.
  16. It's hard work but well worth every bit. Nothing like seeing your boy shooting his first stage at a USPSA match. See avatar to the left .
