  1. It has always been thus. Glad to hear it.
  2. Well, I hope you do make it out one day. And yeah, mall-nijas can't shoot worth
  3. Yeah, I thought about doing a bushing but ended up with the bull. It's a fluted barrel but moreover it is really lightened up front. The balance point is a good 3/4 of an inch farther back toward the grip than my 5 inch. Comparing it to Brad's fat free Benny gun, I think it feels every bit as light at the nose and I think my gun might be lighter in general. It weighs just 36oz. But you know, no matter if it's the 5", 6" bushing, or 6" bull.........I think they are all capable of winning the nationals and in my case it is the driver that is the weak link. Fix the driver and any one of these incredible guns can win.
  4. Well, the 6 inch shoots really sweet, I think it shoots flatter although some say that's mathematically impossible and I understand the theory. But I'm having trouble seeing a down side to it as well, and I swear I can track the front sight better. I have only shot one match with it so far but I am very encouraged.
  5. Yeah.......I hear the same thing. LOL
  6. You know I think I might really like it. I don't think it is costing me in transitions and it's 2 ounces lighter than my 5 inch long dust cover, and the longer sight radius can't hurt.
  7. Just a bored snow day...................yeah I'm sure we both just waved a magic wand and woke up in Master class.
  8. I have no idea what I'd run in a 9mm since I don't use one. Often in a new really tight gun I will run a 12 or 13 in 40 cal until it is broke in a bit and end up usually with an 11. So, it's not a bad idea to run the 12 in his 9 for a while if it is really tight. But after it is broke in, the gun should run on about as light a spring as you would want to go or until the slide outruns the mag spring (or you start to see peening LOL).
  9. First not going into battery the whole way is more times than not the extractor. When I install the aftec there are two things that are critical. No matter what the directions say I shape the hook like I do on every extractor as does every great builder I know. Second the bevel on the FP stop has to let the aftec hinge freely. If you didn't fit a new FP stop make sure the extractor wont clock as well. Both checking for proper hinge movement and clocking is of course done without the springs of the aftec. If these are new mags, you should (if you haven't already) let them loaded to capacity for a day or two before using them. Finally I really will ignore any malfs for 500 rounds or so depending on what they are.
  10. No......they got everyone killed in WW1, WW2, Vietnam etc...................
  11. Well, the 1911s service record stands on it's own. And if you need more capacity and lighter weight get a 2011.........that way you have the best of everything.
  12. The comparison was originally made to show the superiority of the trigger and in the hands of the very well trained it can and will make a difference. So, the fact that special forces would choose the platform makes perfect sense.
  13. So, the government appoints 3 guys to compile the data on a bunch of pistols and once they make their suggestion, that suggestion would be based on their personal experience....right? But of course many flukes could happen during the test too. LOL Point is, all any of us have are personal experiences to base our decisions upon.
  14. No, you just have to ignore a century of service and the mountains and mountains of evidence that has proven the 1911 to be an awesome and completely reliable fighting weapon that's all.... Furthermore, if you think anyone who is a serious USPSA competitor would compete with a gun that is not 100% reliable you're completely disillusioned.
  15. LOL ahhhhh got ya......your using a PC not a Mac. LOL
  16. Oh sure, try to run a glock on a 7lb recoil spring and let's see what you get. Can anyone say paper weight. LOL
  17. The good news is that the 1911 in 9mm has been figured out. It took a little while to figure out, but now even open guns in 9mm running insanely light springs are running like clocks.
  18. I would have to look at it, but I usually keep them to length and relieve the underneath. But yes you can shorten it all you want with a file.........but it will change your ejection pattern and you might need to change the angle on the ejector if cases start bouncing off the slide etc... Also, the wilson's with the trojan will sometimes allow you to ram the mag in too far preventing the slide from going forward. Check that out and make sure that is not a problem before your first match.
  19. Yes, but just make sure that your mag cannot contacte the ejector or you will bend and break ejectors. Take the slide off and put a mag in with a snap-cap push it up in as far as it will go and make sure that there is zero contact. Mil-spec ejectors do not hang over the well but many of the newer and certainly the extended ejectors will. If it makes contact you will have to remove material on the ejector so that it is clear. I can tell you how to do that if you want/need.
  20. Well, I lose a tenth or two with the skinny mag and the pouch behind the hip shooting SS. This is an older video but shows how you have to look the reload in a little better with the SS. Still can be done in one step though.
  21. I'd say this is a very level headed post.
  22. You win the prize for the funniest comment!!!
