  1. It's social media, today one can share all their thrills and woes online making it easier for others to be involved. The fact that most would not know each other but for the social media platform give a sense of anonymity so are more free with their opinions. Sensitive people should not air their problems online.
  2. Not talking red dot here, just plain ole 3-9×40. For years I used see-through scope rings thinking I may need my irons. You know what, only once has a scope failed on me, and I didn't see any deer that day.
  3. Meh, irons are over rated for my old eyes. I run optics on just about all my rifles so no need for a front sight. As a matter of fact, I avoid ARs with the old front and carry handle sight.
  4. Right, if you are known to have numerous guns it would put you into one of the categories I mentioned. Me, most of the guys that know I'm a gun guy have their own collection, and all truth be known, if they really wanted to get into a place they could, that's their job after-all. What is good about where I live is that there is an EMS right across the street, some of the guys know me and there is always activity out there, it's also a busy street so traffic is always present. Not that some won't be stupid enough to try, but there are better more easily accessible places to try.
  5. I look at it this way, unless you are a drug dealer, banker or other high value target person, you will be a target of opportunity. The criminal will not come prepared for a door that gives them more resistance than a standard door does, if they see extra security they will probably go break in somewhere else or target you for another time when they can come better prepared. If you back up this with a camera, you will know if someone has tried getting in and can be better prepared as well. Nothing says go away better than a well defended domicile.
  6. What?? Who needs a lead door when you could get a bunch of boolits out of it.
  7. We used to do that outside the windows in Hokkaido Japan, 15' of snow in some areas there.
  8. I wouldn't go that far, but I too have a few of those, black round ones, but also the oval blue ones and red triangle ones and even those that look like a light switch. The blue one is great, it has a folding hook to hang it and magnets to put them on the hood while working on an engine. But overall I really like my headlamps, mostly petzl, they just work.
  9. Don't know the official count here, but I'd guess 6" or 7", total. First three had just been cleared, well somewhat, from the roads when the rest hit. Luckily many places were closed, including the base so traffic was light, but still had a few folks off the road. I don't know if it is Clarksville's intention to leave a layer of snow on the road, as some places do, but there was a major difference between here and Oak Grove, KY., when I drove out this morning.
  10. No, I get it, don't agree with it, but I know it's law. It may be just clearing it up, but they only did it with marijuana...nothing to clear up the fact that just because a Dr. prescribed an opiate, it's still illegal to buy and own guns while hooked on the stuff. I think the Fed's are just trying to protect the $$$ being made on the "war" on drugs.
  11. So no, they do not mention other drugs by name. Just singled out the worst of the bunch?
  12. No, but like alcohol and legal opiates it should not be illegal to buy and own weapons if you use marijuana. I don't use it anymore so no dog in the fight, but it should not be illegal. Do they ask, specifically about illegal opiates, or other specific schedule I drugs?
  13. I think the federal ban needs to be lifted, there is no reason to have it listed as a schedule I drug. DEA Schedule I now include these drugs listed below, anyone really think marijuana belongs on this list? Heroin (diacetylmorphine) LSD (Lysergic acid diethylamide) Marijuana (cannabis, THC) Mescaline (Peyote) MDMA (3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine or “ecstasy”) GHB (gamma-hydroxybutyric acid) Ecstasy (MDMA or 3,4-Methylenedioxymethamphetamine) Psilocybin Methaqualone (Quaalude) Khat (Cathinone) Bath Salts (3,4-methylenedioxypyrovalerone or MDPV)
  14. Ranges are a complex issue, specially open ranges. You have safety and noise issues to consider along with armed people. I know, to you and I it's no issue, but to non-shooters it may be. Gun stores may have a few issues as well, and with all the recent burglaries it just adds another element. But to target them specifically is IMHO, against the 2A, specially to ban them outright. I can see having open zoning meetings to have the neighborhood oppose a permit, but to regulate them out of existence is a no-go.
  15. Just wanted to post a little reminder that some of us are using the dark theme and many of the posts are coming up with black text on a black background. Some sales ads include partially formatted portions which make it seem like there is nothing there, especially bad when it starts with normal text. A few articles that get pasted from other sources come out that way too. Not picking anyone's post in particular, but the above is what gets seen by us with the dark theme. We can only read it if we highlight the text beforehand, but then the "quote this part", and on a tablet, other pop-ups hide portions. If you cut and paste from an other web site, before you click anywhere else, scroll to the bottom and click "paste as plain text instead" first. It will take out all the invisible formatting, making it easier to read. This will also fix the black text with white background too BTW. Here is a great example of what I see on some posts, again not picking on anyone in particular, many come up this way. With the default theme, and what the OP sees I bet: And with the darker night owl theme:
  16. Many a male can relate, and probably a few females too.
  17. The original link is here, http://thesilicongraybeard.blogspot.com/2018/01/the-us-didnt-have-spike-in-violent.html I agree with @ReeferMac This line of thinking has merit, you need to police your own neighborhood. While the protesters, who are mostly outsiders, want less police, the opposite is actually needed. But there are other factors, such as what was coined as "The Ferguson Effect", while I'm sure many LEOs won't publicly admit it, it has to weigh on the way they do their jobs.
  18. Lock it down, you can always unlock it when you need it. If they are to be believed, I was not part of it, this time, but have had my info lost at least three or four times in the past, Army, VA, DOD, all lost my info.
  19. My old job got me in with t-rowe price for our 401k, I rolled over my old 401k into it and started purchasing a few funds here and there. What impressed me was the performance during the 09' downturn, and the reports available on the web site. When I started, you could start a fund by sending in (auto draft) at least $50 a month until you reached the 2K purchase limit. Now it takes at least 2k to open a fund, but I have done real well so far and the current market trend is making it that much better. Their targeted funds are a great fit for me, since I don't keep up with trends as good as their fund managers do.
  20. Wow, much too young. Sad to hear about this kind of stuff, makes one's own expiration date seem much closer.
  21. Great news, before you know it he will be out and about playing with the dog again.
  22. IMHO I think the import restrictions are more symbolic than anything. The only reason it effects foreign weapons more often than not is because those restrictions are against the actual government, and most of those companies do business with the government if not downright owned by the government. And you know what, I'm ok with that, while I may like certain foreign weapons, there is nothing out there that I need which would not be replaced with a weapon that is allowed to be imported, or made here in the US. As a matter of fact, if the cheap imports start being a part of the past, maybe some US companies will start filling the niche. The US populace will still want what they want, and if a US company can fill that want then so much the better. Of course we need to start putting pressure on our US companies to up their game in the QC and CS department, so many of them are putting out a substandard product that it's hurting their sales big time and having us look elsewhere.
  23. One hurdle down, keeping you in my thoughts.
  24. Sorry to hear about the forced hiatus, hope you get to feeling better soon.
