  1. I considered one of those for out on my hunting area but so far their too expensive for what I need one for.
  2. Here is a 3K listed for $175 http://campbell.bookoo.com/s/coleman%20generator
  3. That will greatly improve the situation, it will keep the shed level at least. I also recommend using this: http://www.thompsonswaterseal.com/waterproofing-products/waterproofing-stains/advanced-tinted-wood-protector within the first year or two. I tried other products including other Thomson's water seal products, and this so far has been the best performing. Its expensive, relative to others, but its well worth it, its been about 5 years and still looks fresh.
  4. When out on my land, I sometimes carry my Berretta 92 in a Serpa leg holster. When the military went to the Serpa we practiced getting it out of the holster but never had the issue of an AD. It was more of the holster "locking" the weapon in place if you pull up on it before pressing the detent lever. Even under stress I never had an issue.
  5. Mine has plywood and it still warps a bit.  The shed itself is in good condition but needs to be re-leveled.  I won't recommend the guys I got mine from, if they're even still in business,  they didnt put the door on the side where I wanted it. They sent a guy to move it and he did a real bad job of it.  Now I need to replace it again, but I doubt I can find the business now.
  6. So I am the process of putting up a barbed wire fence on a run that doesn't have one yet.  All day with the post hole digger and bar hammering away at large rocks and staples and using the chainsaw etc, when I start back up the line 100 yards down I jumped about 6 deer.  Might have to carry my bow with me when I go back to finish up; thats the third time I jumped a herd like that in the past two weeks.
  7. This site has a few listed, they are from DRMO so read the description well.  Many times the equipment is just been replaced with newer ones and they are in good condition while others have been deemed too expensive to repair.   http://www.govliquidation.com/auction/search?cmd=results&fromsearch=true&words=Generator%20Set
  8. Don't fret, better ones will come along my first was but a spike.  Congrats on a successful hunt.
  9. The other good thing about a kindle fire or android tablet is you can get on here and other forums as well.  You can also get the NRA mags online, much better than print because of the interactive links to more info/stories.  Oh, and yes you get to zoom in too.
  10. I went to their opening, they said it was a satellite cabelas so much smaller.  Did get a brick of .22 so trip was worthwhile. The thing that got me was that they didnt have any good sales for the opening, just regular seasonal flyer stuff.
  11. A portable generator would be great to have in a TEOTWAWKI event.  Depending on what event took place, there should still be some gas left in storage, damaged vehicles, farm tanks etc.  If the event is something like a giant volcano, meteor/comet the sun may not be getting through for some time.   I personally would think being mobile is better, just in case a good home defense is unattainable. But there is no reason you can't have both!
  12. +1, "We" elected him, twice, so its not a simple case of one person being the problem.  The painful fact is that the US has become quite literally a "kept" society wanting something for nothing.  So anyone that promises to give us more with out us having to work for it is ok in our book.
  13. Look at getting a kindle or kindle app for your iPhone or droid, you can make the size of the print any size you want.   I like reading these books and even watch the movies, but some books also take creative license so I try and take them with a grain of salt too.  When I watch a movie "based on a true story/event" I have the habit of looking for the story it is based on to compare; most times the true story is more fascinating, but I still enjoy the movies.
  14. And I for one appreciate it, it at least brings up the subject so someone can shed some light on the truth. And as an aside, I believe this has only recently changed as I believe it used to be illegal for deer. But when I seen electronic calls sold at Grandpa's, a local sporting good store, I checked the regs.
  15. According to the 2014 regs:"Electronic calls or live decoys while hunting wild turkey, foxes and waterfowl (except electronic calls are legal during the Conservation Season for Blue, Snow and Ross’ geese)." But like I stated, I have not needed to use it. All I did was a proof of concept, but it should work like any other call.
  16. While I have been shot at before, nothing like that made me get mine. I was just living in some areas that had increasingly become... well lets just say less friendly. I always followed the law as far as being armed, and in most places I could either open carry or have a gun loaded or unloaded in the vehicle so didn't really need one. But when I returned from Japan I was stationed in Savannah GA and many things had changed, I decided it was time to have one so applied and have kept one ever since.
  17. None needed, there are bad players everywhere and I am sure there are may instances of bad behavior on the contractor and military side. The problem is that an organization gets a bad name due to the actions of a few, such as the Secret Service recently, and it is hard to not think they are all the same. All incidents need to be dealt with on their own, unless the same people are involved.
  18. Yea, good deals which can be had on craigslist and bookoo.com (Campbell yard sales) weekly. As for the freezers, I agree, those things come in handy as heck. My side-by-side in the house holds the regular stuff while my upright one, in the shed, holds my deer and oversized things like the turkey and any meat packs which we get on sale. I had to run an isolated line out to my shed that wasn't on a GCF circuit because lightning would sometimes trigger the GCF and if I didn't catch it everything would thaw out. I lost two deer once, what a dang shame.
  19. Yea, I can see where you got this. But the same setup can be used for coyotes, deer, crows etc. I have recorded calls for upteen different things. I also got this cat toy that has this wiggle ball and a furry tail which I plan on using on a boxed in surface, so the ball stays in it, to try and get a few yotes in this year. The tech is the same, a call a decoy and a gun.
  20. I have two portable ones; one is an 10hp Briggs which is a 5k gen, and an 8hp Briggs which is a 3k gen/welder. They are both gas only and have to have the gas treated to keep them ready to use but the bigger one has already paid for itself the first year I had it. Our power was out for three days and it kept the freezer, which had just been stocked, running along with some lights and some other electric items that we used to cook and for comfort. The second was purchased for the welder part, and I expect to have it pay for itself real quick. I got both of these units used, for $250 or so each, they needed tuneups/adjustments but otherwise worked fine as was. I worked a JD for a year and we had many small engines come in needing carb work, most due to bad fuel, specially the one with ethanol additives. The best thing for small engines is to try to get ethanol free gas and use something like Stabil before long term storage. Starting all your gas engines at least once a month is not a bad idea either.
  21. I think it is a shame, securing the Office of the President of The United States should be one of our most important things we do. Like I have said before, I dislike Obama and his policies but I respect the fact that we have elected him into office and he is our CIC and one of the leaders of the free world. What is happening to the Secret Service is shameful and the entire force should be gutted and replaced with personnel that will take this job seriously. The fact that we have had so many Presidents assassinated and so many attempts thwarted should be enough to keep these guys on guard, but I guess we have a short memory: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_presidential_assassination_attempts_and_plots
  22. Ok, I have some info on this as I have tried it before.  First, I saved many calls as MP3 on my old Iphone that I kept for the music only.  I got a Motorola Bluetooth speaker and set it up to where I could still "see" it and I play the calls from the Iphone.  With the Iphone, you can make a playlist of calls to loop with a recorded "silence" mp3 to give it time between calls.  I honestly haven't seen any success with this as most deer I have taken have been in the same area without the need for calls.  But I don't see why it can't work, specially if you put out a doe decoy and put the speaker on or near it.   I used this one: http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-MOTOROKR-Bluetooth-Portable-Speaker/dp/B001CK5XEA/ref=pd_cp_cps_2 but there quite a few out there that are better and better priced now.
  23. All four of these are of the same incident, and no mention of the contractors that were shot dragged and hung on a bridge and set on fire now does it?  No mention of the FACT, that every window was a potential snipers nest, every car had a potential of blowing up whether manned or not and no mention of the FACT that every person could blow up in front of you at any moment.  The thing is, our government put them in place because they did not want to give our soldiers a ROE that would allow them to protect dignitaries and other high value visitors to Iraq.  I am not excusing actions like that by any means but can understand how something like that happens.
  24. All I did was stand on the base with a foot on each side while torquing the barrel nut, quite easy really. But that was because my bench was still drying from when I redid the top. Much easier with a vice to be sure but it can be done. The thing is,I wonder just how important the whole torque thing really is seeing as this system is just hand tight: https://www.coppercustom.com/shop/parts-kits/dolos-ar15-quick-change-barrel-system/
  25. Though I am careful about drinking possibly contaminated water/substances or knowingly coming into contact with known diseases I am of the mind that we are overly using antibacterial soaps and hand cleaners and setting ourselves up for a pandemic we will have no natural defense for. I think some of these germs are actually good for us, specially when young so we can build up antibodies to protect against worse germs.
