Though I don't quite share the sentiment of either of you the fact stands that you don't train to wound. You shoot to stop the threat, which means you shoot at the largest mass that will give you the best chance of a successful hit.. You seem to indicate that its not a bad thing to aim to wound, that is a sentiment that can get you killed. If they survive, ok, if they die,so be it as long as you survive the encounter. If that means you have to empty your gun before they stop, or if you have to reload to keep you in the fight then that is what you should do. Harsh as it may be, you WANT to kill your opponent, you want him to be out of the fight and have no chance whatsoever to return fire, stab, slash or throw rocks. You want your story to be the only story there is. When it comes down to it, all this worrying will cease when the fecal matter hits the rotary impeller and you have to make the choice of where to shoot and I hope no one on this board has to actually experience this. But until then, train as you fight and fight as you train.

Some good reading: www.mouseguns.com/Defensive%20(Combat)%20Accuracy.pdf

Yes, but if the keypad goes it's stuck closed unless a bypass is present.. We had a keybox with electronic key pad that would wear out those things quick, but it had keyed access to allow for battery replacement and maintenance on the electronics.

I think I covered that. While body armor is getting easier to get, most bad guys are not going to be wearing it. If they are, well as a civilian with minimal training you just may be up the fecal creek without a paddle because then the bad guy is probably a little more trained and determined than the average one. But getting hit with body armor is not fun, and if you are a little guy, or not supported you will end up on your backside. Continued attack is a very good likelihood, and there is no way to keep it from happening 100% of the time. If you get a CNS shot, which is difficult, he is down, no matter what. But with adrenaline, fear, anger etc, it just makes the situation worse on both sides. Doing head shots at the range is hard enough, but add any of the mentioned things and it just makes it that much harder. That is why COM is taught to even the most capable shooters. Now, this is not to say that you should not take that shot if it presents itself, heck I would take a shot at a hand or foot if that is all I could see. But percentage wise, you are better off shooting at the largest portion you can see. As far as pass through, I don't worry about that as much as missing.

I just traded away my Mossberg 635, I purchased it for hunting on post but only got one doe before I stopped hunting on post. They are very accurate with sabot slugs, and agree that it can go beyond 100 yards, but unless you are restricted to shotgun only I would rather use a centerfire of what ever caliber you have.

Yes, a faraday cage has to be able to conduct electricity all around it. Maybe if the lock portion is isolated from any metal portion on the outside that would conduct the electricity it may stay safe. The best bet is to get a digital safe lock that has some sort of mechanical fail safe since dead batteries and/or loss of electricity can disable it. I also think EMP is very unlikely, and if that did happen then we would have much more to worry about than a locked safe.

I think the difference is between who is being taught. For everyday SD situations COM is the best course or action, if you are a trained professional such as a patrolman, SWAT or Hostage Rescue then it may make sense to give them the option depending on circumstance and target. We were/are taught COM, body, body, head is the string; this is for the times the opponent may be wearing body armor. The two body shots will either kill or disable a non protected opponent, or take him off balance if he is, with a follow up CNS shot. While shooting at the pelvic region is effective and may take an opponent down, even kill him it does not take a determined one out of the fight, specially if armed. Of course many thieves are not that determined, most will run when confronted with any weapon which they feel may kill or injure them such as a .22, but if they are cranked up on drugs they may feel little to no pain and have no sense to stop the attack no matter what.

Are you stalking or using a stand? I find that in areas that have no clear backstop its a good idea to use black powder rifles or shotguns with slugs, but the best is to shoot from an elevated position so you will be firing in a downward angle into the dirt. If you use black powder, make sure you have the distance beyond the target, at least a couple of hundred yards. They have less range than centerfire but can still reach out, so if you don't have that then stick with the shotgun.

Only if they are grounded, and a faraday cage only protects things on the inside not on the outside like the lock.

I love Fiskars, their loppers are top notch. I keep a small pair in my field dressing bag for ribs like these http://www.amazon.com/Fiskars-PowerGear-Bypass-Lopper-96256935J/dp/B0000950Q2 and have a bunch of other things like paper cutters, scissors and even a machete which have served me well.

I think they have a reasonable right to put the blame where they have. The rugs in question have at least two clips that keep the mat from moving forward. They are a bit of a nuisance how they stick up so its possible to step on them or stub your shoe on them so I can see how some would remove the clips. As for the key chain part, come on why would you want to have a ton of keys on a ring like that. Its like those gas station bathroom keys with the brick on them, you expect a lock to hold a brick in the keyhole without bending the key? In those instances I do think that they made the recall to keep from having to litigate a bunch of cases and spend way more money than the recall will cost. Like I said, there are plenty of cases where the equipment does have genuine problems. But once you go messing with factory settings I don't think its the manufacturers fault or responsibility to fix it. You think a manufacturer will warranty a product when you do something like rooting a phone, chipping an xbox or something as simple as using reloads in some guns? I am not one of those that think that all these corporations have no faults, on the contrary, they have plenty and it affects us in one way or another. But not everything is their fault either. Heck I read where the parents from Newton CT (Sandy Hook) are considering suing Bushmaster for wrongful death. And they may get some money out of it, but it doesn't mean Bushmaster is at fault; they did pay out in the Washington sniper case so it may be likely they will pay here too.

Phones can be a PITA as I found out a couple of weeks ago. I have a small trailer I sleep in when I hunt, it has a propane heat source but I don't like to leave any flames on at night. Anyway I set my alarm to go off at 5 and went to sleep, I woke to find the sun had come up already so I went to check the time on my phone. The darn thing had shut itself off, it seems that the phone has a temperature range and if it hits any of those extremes it will shut itself off. So now I make sure I put it under the covers with me to keep it above the freezing mark.

Its been a bit since I went looking, but it seemed that most wheel guns and t/c guns that were billed as hunting guns were close to or above 1k. I had looked online to read what guns were being used for hunting and would run into articles like this one: http://www.fieldandstream.com/articles/hunting/deer-hunting/2013/01/best-handguns-deer-hunting which placed many in that range too.

Don't most of these safes have a mechanical fail safe in case of loss of power?
-
There needs to be a clear reason for doing so, like threatening to harm or kill oneself or others or otherwise presenting a threat while armed. Just being armed is not being a threat to anyone, and as I understand it, she was cooperative with LE so I do not see her as a threat, do you?

I have two of the Toyotas in question, they wanted to cut the corner of my mat off and place an override on my gas pedal so if both the brake and gas were pushed at the same time the brake would override the gas...bad idea on a 4WD that actually goes off-road. I did not comply with the recall, IF my gas pedal gets stuck, you flip it into neutral and get off the road. When going up steep inclines off road, I rev the engine while holding the brake so I don't slide backward. I could not do that if they did the mod. Now the airbag, yes I see that as a legit issue and should of been recalled as soon as they noticed it. I have seen many YouTube videos purported to show this, but I take those with a grain of salt. There are quite a few showing how to properly set the trigger, and some will explain how if it is done wrong then you will get this failure. If it were such a problem then how come experts for either side have not been able to replicate these failures? If I have a weapon that I do not maintain or modify, I don't expect the manufacturer to be responsible. Now if its a brand new weapon out the box, then yes I would expect the manufacturer to make it right. With all the thousands or maybe even millions of rifles sold you would think this would surface way more than it has if it was an manufacturer issue.

I seen this, but it has a short barrel which would, IMO, reduce the range a little.

Yea, am really leaning toward a wheel gun with a Ruger in the lead. I don't plan on hunting bear or boar with it but if the opportunity presented itself I would want the follow up shot(s). I also want to be able to mount a scope, my eyes are not what they were so I can use all the help I can get. At this point if I find a good deal it will decide for me. A $500 price point I can handle but all I've seen at that price are shorter barreled guns or ones that are iron sight only. A 44 mag or possibly a 357 should be plenty good enough. I have kicked around the thought at going 45lc/410 in something like a judge but there I keep looking at the circuit judge which is not a pistol, man so many guns so little money.

+1 on Gerber's CS department. My issued multi-tool broke one of the triangular cutters where I couldn't just spin it to a new sharp side. I couldn't see turning it in just for that so went looking for a part number. Couldn't find it so called them, they asked for my info, gave me the link to the replacement pieces and sent me one for free. We did end up ordering some, but I think it was great that they would do that without knowing I would order a couple hundred anyway.

They have before, but in this case the police had better sense than to make an arrest: http://www.wsmv.com/story/19137384/3-people-carry-guns-into-movie-theater-in-putnam-county

Yes, I could. I could of also shot at the Iraqis' with a bb gun if I so chose, but I also want to come back from the hunt. We had a discussion about using a 300Blk on bear on another site, and I still stand by my opinion that it is better to use a bigger longer range caliber. Though you may get away with it once or twice, I would not make a habit of it.

Not with a HCP, but I think you mean in her case and location. An officer still needs to have PC, even if someone calls in on you. Were would we be if just a call could be used to enter your home to search or subject you to a physical search. The part of her consenting is the rub, but I don't think she was required to consent. She could of just left the premises and that would of been that. Of course I don't think she would of been allowed to leave but then her 4th amendment rights would of been violated even more at that point IMO.
-
SO? Just because you have an HCP does not mean you can be approached at all. And she does not have to respond to such a question, she could of plead the 5th and that alone is not a reason to search, though I know it does make you wonder.

I have the P-300 on one of my ARs, though I am not entirely sold on the BDC it is a good scope for the money and I have gotten used to the BDC enough to be able to hunt with it if I so choose. The P-223 is virtually the same scope and some 300Blk owners have stated that they see no difference in the BDC. I used a one piece millet scope ring base out of walmart for roughly $35 and it holds it just fine.
