For Christmas I received a pair ofHoward Leight R-01526 earmuffs which I decided to compare to the Peltor TAC 100s linked in a post here on TGO. First the HL's Pros: great microphone sensitivity, can hear a lot of the wildlife I can't hear with out them. They fit comfortably and the on/off knob is designed well. They are slim enough to put my hunting watch cap over. The MP3 connection is good, it allows listening to music or whatever with its own volume. That is you MP3 player can be low, while the microphones are on high. Cons: the microphones have a slight humm, more so with a cord plugged in, sort of like an open mike. They also react to the phone antenna when downloadind/sending. It gets worse if the phone is closer to the headset. Now the Peltor TAC 100s. Pro: the microphone pickup is much more life-like, no extra static. They react to louder sound very quickly such as snapping your fingers or tapping on the headset. Very comfortable and though slightly thicker than the Howard Leight's not overly so. My watch cap fit right over it easy enough. The MP3 connection is recessed which keep your bare fingers or metal from touching it and creating static/feedback unlike the Howard Leight's Cons: the on/off button sticks out, cosmetic but it bugs me. The wires to each ear piece sticks out a bit, not a lot but enough to snag a branch if exposed, with no watch cap, and a bit thinner than the Howard Leigh's. The microphone does not amplify as good, seems to only capture closer sounds. Overall they both work well. If you only use them for the range, I would get the Peltors they sound much clearer and react to loud sounds better. If you hunt, I'd consider the Howard Leight's they amplify sounds much better and you can use the MP3 while hunting. I use mine to listen to recorded deer calls to copy on my call.

I use this trick to figure out COAL for the 300Blk if I can't readily find it online it should work for .223/5.56 as well: First measure your bullet and find the part of the ogive that measures .250. Mark with a Sharpie. Seat bullet so mark is centered on the milspec mag bump. Measure and write down COAL in your notes. Also, if you insert a bullet into a sized .223 case point down and turn to make a mark it will give you a point to seat the bullet to.

I have never owned a pit, but have been around them often enough to know a few things about them which goes for most large breeds. First, don't show fear or aggression, like any pack animal they may respond as an alpha to put you in your place. If they are your dog(s) you must always be the alpha, no matter what. While I never like to hurt any dog, sometimes a smack on the nose or backside is warranted. Not for the pain, which should be slight, but for the shock and admonishment. The largest dogs I have owned were rottweilers, and all have been the biggest babies around the family. My son, who was just crawling at the time would be hell on Duke my last rotty, but all Duke would do is sit or lay accross him. But I never left them alone, its just not wise, as even siblings get in fights. I think large breeds get a bad rap, mostly due to irresponsible owners. And due to their size, they cause more damage faster.

I beg to differ, but that would not be a good thing. Look what those kooky kalifornians have done with lead bans due to them. I would hate for a movement like that to get started out here.

They seem to love the powerline towers on my place. They can always be found up there, sometimes as many as twenty or so. And I agree, kinda creepy specially at night. But they sure helped clean up deer guts pretty quickly.

See what I miss while hunting; my bad.

Seen this on another site: http://imgur.com/a/gLBU5 Goes to show you, if ATF is just out to screw with us we can now return the favor.

Great, now he is going to create an account here just to watch this.

I would put them in order. Those ribbons come off easily and anyone could have replaced them. Seems like a good candidate to make, or have made, a display case to display them. This place has some to give you an idea: http://www.azwoodbox.com/id90.html

Whoa there, that ranking is solidly mine. I think I lost across all categories to boot. I say we have a roll call on this thread, 150/12 is only 12.50; I believe we can all handle that. I am in.

I can't say I enjoyed it, having matched the Titans record and all; but I am willing to try again next year. I thought we agreed on a 12 way split? I say we all ante up.

I never place any weapon in travel bags, they get their own lock box within my checked bag if I take it. As for residue, been pulled aside more times than I could count. A few even while in uniform coming back from overseas. I get th extra screening and sent on my way. The problem I see is when I didn't get stopped, I had residue from months of being exposed to all kinds of military explosives and not one alarm went off. I sometimes wonder if they just act like their checking.

I also try to avoid public restrooms for #2, but if you got to go.. I try and not lay anything on the floor, and due to the weight I just place it on something, tp dispenser, sink, or my knee if need be. Its not really about it being seen, but I try and not let that happen also.

So here I am, in my stand with alternating light to moderate rain falling; slight mist now creeping in. Haven't seen deer since I harvested those two does, and I blamed it mostly on the wind. To my surprise, this article contradicts that: http://www.mossyoak.com/our-obsession/blogs/cuzs-corner/2012/11/20/20-years-of-deer-research-on-deer-movement When I was younger, I would stalk hunt and always seemed to get deer on rainy and windy days. I attributed that to the fact that my movements were masked by the rain. Anyone else see these trends? What conditions have you seen that are better for you?

That's a good question. I know with traffic accidents it considered no fault. But the law is pretty specific, you must have a HC plate or placard displayed. But if they are fraudulently using one or the other I am not sure how they can tell.

12/15, but I guessed on a couple. Edit: pfft, just read on another forum that it's rigged. One guy claimed he intentionally picked wrong and it gave him a high score. My current connection is slow or I'd test it.

I am sorry for your loss. In the end all we leave is memories and loved ones to carry on, I am glad you have some happy ones of her. I hope that helps you and your family heal.

I have the same issue, I had the option of either having clear long distance or short distance so picked long. I use +1 glasses for reading small text when needed. I figured I needed to see things coming better than waiting till they were on me.

I hate hearing of losses during the holidays, it makes celebrating them later on a melancholy affair. May you and yours celebrate his life, not his loss during these trying times.

The Official "What Santa Brought You For Christmas 2014" Thread

No pics, but I got a set of electronic muffs, some binos and a PID for my Lee pot. I have the muffs in hand, PID in the mail, and binos well..my daughter ordered from Amazon, then got an email saying there was a technical glitch and the order was canceled, she ordered from another site and they back ordered. She feels bad, but I told her not to worry as I know stuff happens.
