  1. Yea, I think you need to take your situation into consideration. I hunt in the middle of a TVA right of way and can see and be seen clearly from any direction a hunter may be hunting outside or inside my property.  When I am in the treeline I put on my orange cap, it will be the first thing anyone looking will see.  Though you never know, it would make no difference IMO if I was wearing it or not, if I get hit it would most likely be from someone shooting at game silhouetted on a hill with me somewhere behind it.    I think if your name is on the deed you are exempt, I have seen some properties have multiple names on it.  But if I had anyone hunting around me, I would don my hat at the very least family or not; its situational.
  2. I would say good luck collecting.
  3. I hope it does pass, but it will be too easy to kill by sending it to the finance committee.
  4.     The caveat to that is if you own the property, then you do not need to wear any orange.  On mine I don't wear any unless I am walking around or retrieving a deer, then only a hat/cap.  Of course that is because I just walk a short ways to my stand, and the stand is hard to miss.  If I had a longer way to my stand I would wear some just in case.
  5. Probably the NRA tags were listed as one of the fund raising type, when correctly listed it triggered the check.  The reason they probably keep records is for if/when they get audited they can show they have been checking and have not let one of their friends get one with no proof.  I don't see any nefarious reason why they asked for the info, you always have the option to get the regular plate.  With the government being able to hack any system (FBI/NSA) I am sure they can get a list from the NRA directly or just have the post office record every address the NRA sends mail to.
  6. Yup, planned on it.
  7. Probably a little due diligence on the States part.  When I applied for my military plates, I had to show proof I qualified, they took a copy and put it in their records.  I figure if you could/would not show proof they would issue you a standard plate.
  8. Same here, I have 3-5 rounds left of my zeroed ammo for my .270 which I would like to use on yotes in my hunting area; its a good caliber for yotes.  I put together one of those DIY callers and will give it a try as soon as I get a chance.  I downloaded a few calling sequences to use on the mp3 player,  will alternate them and see which works for me.
  9. I use pressure treated 2x4s, formed into an "H" with slots for 1x1 uprights.  It stands on it's own and only the 1x1s need replacing every once in awhile.  I leave them out where I shoot, three years so far.  I like the metal stands, but then I would have to store them.
  10. Dont know where I heard it but everytime I am in your place I remember this: "Pain is natures way to let you know you are alive"  Hope you get to feeling better soon.
  11. Yes, but a bill like this may get more people to become gun owners and with that a bigger voice for 2A issues.  I say anything that supports more people exercising their 2A rights is a good thing
  12. You never know, things have been passed that I never expected to do so.  They need to realize that though they may miss the tax on extra sales that weekend, many of those sales would not of happened otherwise.  Many people will rather buy used than spend the extra 10% on a new gun, I know I do.  I have seen some weapons at the LGS that are priced decently only to go above what I would pay when you add taxes and the background check.
  13. But, but...the VP said that was how it was done.
  14. I am good with that, either day either time.  I do have one question though, the Casa Blanca I have been to is at 2121 Wilma Rudolph Boulevard Clarksville, TN 37040, anybody have the address, or cross street for the one on Riverside?
  15. Yup, left door eye level.
  16. I am good with the location; now the time and date.
  17. Well, since I am in the market for a Rugger Redhawk in 44Mag I decided to see if something was available.  I must say, the customer base was a little shady, at least that day.  Got out of my truck, walked up to the door and read their "don't bring any loaded guns into the store" sign and turned around and got back into my truck and left.  It may not be a "legal" posting but it made their sentiment quite clear.  And they say its for my safety?
  18. No, planting anything does not constitute hunting over bait.  Its only when you pile corn, apples  or other food in order to bring wildlife in.  If you harvest corn, soybean, wheat etc. and during that process some gets left behind, that is also not considered baiting since it was due to the harvest process.  So if you hunt a farm, find out if the farmer is going to harvest his crop during hunting season and take advantage of it.  It goes quick though, so be sure to be there on the day of.
  19. My land had a TVA powerline going through it so trees are a premium, I planted quite a few but many just didn't take for one reason or another.  Here are a few things I learned:   Select a good site, enough sun/shade and drainage depending on tree Test your soil and check what the tree requires before planting like PH and nutrients etc. Buy your trees from someone that grows them here in TN, I use a guy out in Joelton, good prices and all home grown. Buy enough trees, some need pollinators others will self pollinate. Plant in early winter, while tree is dormant. Use mulch around the base to hold moisture but don't cover the bark. Put a cage around the tree until tall enough, deer ate all the leaves off my apple trees. Stake the tree down, they need a bit of support until they take root, you can use the cage if cage is well supported. Fertilize when advised, test soil yearly to make sure it still has what the tree needs. Use those watering bags that water for an extended period of time until tree matures and takes root. Like I said, some of mine did not make it due to failure of me to follow these steps.  And since I don't get to my land all the time, it took a year before I found out the tree did not make it.  I had a nice 10'-15' apple tree already there, but the power company, (not TVA) cut it down when they ran a new line along the road.  They replaced it with a new one but that one is not looking good.  An other think you may look into are Black and Blue Berry bushes, I planted those as well and some are doing good.
  20. Good luck, come by and let us know how it went.
  21. Welcome to the site.  Some of us Clarksville members are discussing a meet and greet if interested take a look: http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/85181-clarksville-members-meetup
  22. Wonder how they plug that up? That case cut a clean hole right through, probably bone and all.  Looks like a 300Blk case, so that would be at least a 7.62mm or 30 cal hole.
  23. It happens when you stick your fingers into moving mechanisms of a progressive reloader.
  24. This has happened many times on the battle field, one I remember was partially captured on video by al-Qaida where a sniper shot one of ours in the chest who is wearing body armor.  He gets back up, they return fire on the sniper then give him medical treatment upon capture. It would be the same for a civilian, once the threat is over if you can safely render medical assistance then you can.  The key is that you are not trying to kill your assailant, only stop the threat.  If the assailant dies, so be it;  If he lives, then again so be it.    I was taught many lethal technics and many non-lethal technics, but when you are in hand to hand combat you need to disable your opponent as quickly as possible, no matter what technic is used. As long as you are not the aggressor, and in certain circumstances even if you are the aggressor your skill level will usually not come into question.
  25. That right there is a self defense shooting course where you draw and shoot while in everyday non ready positions.  This one simulates carrying a baby.
