  1. Well, since I am in the market for a Rugger Redhawk in 44Mag I decided to see if something was available.  I must say, the customer base was a little shady, at least that day.  Got out of my truck, walked up to the door and read their "don't bring any loaded guns into the store" sign and turned around and got back into my truck and left.  It may not be a "legal" posting but it made their sentiment quite clear.  And they say its for my safety?
  2. No, planting anything does not constitute hunting over bait.  Its only when you pile corn, apples  or other food in order to bring wildlife in.  If you harvest corn, soybean, wheat etc. and during that process some gets left behind, that is also not considered baiting since it was due to the harvest process.  So if you hunt a farm, find out if the farmer is going to harvest his crop during hunting season and take advantage of it.  It goes quick though, so be sure to be there on the day of.
  3. My land had a TVA powerline going through it so trees are a premium, I planted quite a few but many just didn't take for one reason or another.  Here are a few things I learned:   Select a good site, enough sun/shade and drainage depending on tree Test your soil and check what the tree requires before planting like PH and nutrients etc. Buy your trees from someone that grows them here in TN, I use a guy out in Joelton, good prices and all home grown. Buy enough trees, some need pollinators others will self pollinate. Plant in early winter, while tree is dormant. Use mulch around the base to hold moisture but don't cover the bark. Put a cage around the tree until tall enough, deer ate all the leaves off my apple trees. Stake the tree down, they need a bit of support until they take root, you can use the cage if cage is well supported. Fertilize when advised, test soil yearly to make sure it still has what the tree needs. Use those watering bags that water for an extended period of time until tree matures and takes root. Like I said, some of mine did not make it due to failure of me to follow these steps.  And since I don't get to my land all the time, it took a year before I found out the tree did not make it.  I had a nice 10'-15' apple tree already there, but the power company, (not TVA) cut it down when they ran a new line along the road.  They replaced it with a new one but that one is not looking good.  An other think you may look into are Black and Blue Berry bushes, I planted those as well and some are doing good.
  4. Good luck, come by and let us know how it went.
  5. Welcome to the site.  Some of us Clarksville members are discussing a meet and greet if interested take a look: http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/85181-clarksville-members-meetup
  6. Wonder how they plug that up? That case cut a clean hole right through, probably bone and all.  Looks like a 300Blk case, so that would be at least a 7.62mm or 30 cal hole.
  7. It happens when you stick your fingers into moving mechanisms of a progressive reloader.
  8. This has happened many times on the battle field, one I remember was partially captured on video by al-Qaida where a sniper shot one of ours in the chest who is wearing body armor.  He gets back up, they return fire on the sniper then give him medical treatment upon capture. It would be the same for a civilian, once the threat is over if you can safely render medical assistance then you can.  The key is that you are not trying to kill your assailant, only stop the threat.  If the assailant dies, so be it;  If he lives, then again so be it.    I was taught many lethal technics and many non-lethal technics, but when you are in hand to hand combat you need to disable your opponent as quickly as possible, no matter what technic is used. As long as you are not the aggressor, and in certain circumstances even if you are the aggressor your skill level will usually not come into question.
  9. That right there is a self defense shooting course where you draw and shoot while in everyday non ready positions.  This one simulates carrying a baby.
  10. I put my stock so it just lets the mag float, then I pull back into my shoulder so no support is needed under the stock.  With the 30 round I just could not raise it high enough without bringing my POA into the ground or the stock out of the sled.
  11. Harbor Freight has it, http://www.harborfreight.com/bead-breaker-92961.html I take mine to the auto craft place on post so don't need this for big tires, but it would be handy to have for farm use or those that don't have access to craft places.
  12. I got this little gem to put inner tubes in the tires on my JD lawn tractor: http://www.harborfreight.com/mini-tire-changer-61179.html.  It works great for smaller tires, they have one for full size tires for the same price.  A tire iron comes in handy with this: http://www.harborfreight.com/24-inch-general-purpose-tire-iron-93230.html.
  13. The only downside is using 30 round mags.  I got 20 round mags for it and it works good, but I seldom use it for ARs, only my 303, 30-06 and etc.  I can shoot them without but after a couple of boxes, my shoulder knows I have been shooting them.
  14. Just wanted to pass this along for those that develop your own loads: http://clarksville.craigslist.org/spo/4862811024.html   I have the same exact one, after laser bore sighting I have been known to dial in a zero after only a couple of rounds usually no more than five.  This coupled with some weighted bags makes shooting some of the big bores a breeze, it takes a lot of the human element out of bench shooting so you can zero in your rifle and eliminate any pulls.  I bought mine for over $100, and BTW I am in no way affiliated with this add .
  15. I think your body has many self defense capabilities, like when people can do great feats of strength like lifting cars off people.  Or when badly injured, the pain shuts off or knocks you out to keep from feeling the pain.  I have broken my leg a couple of times, and one was the femur.  While I can tell you there was pain, at first I could not feel it as long as I was still (jarring still hurt); it was not until many hours later that the full throbbing pain began.  Some say that they forget traumatic events, or at least they are fuzzy.  It may be just another way of your body protecting itself.
  16. I can tell you that shooting from an AR from a truck had no ringing effect that I noticed and I went through a few mags worth.  It doesn't mean that no damage is occurring though, I am sure your ears still get the full effect.  I tried to keep my Peltors on as much as possible but sometimes I was just not able to.  The only time I remember actually getting ringing is when mortars or other like projectiles exploded near enough to feel the concussion.  But it went away quickly enough and according to VA nothing permanent happened :ugh:
  17. I had texas pete, and good coffee sent in along with "lickies & chewies".  But really, anything you send will be well received.
  18. That's exactly why I chose my .270, its flat shooting and I can take it hunting in any state.  Though most of my shots are 100 yards or less, its nice to know that I can reach out further with little hold over.  I know what you mean, but many of these magnums are not really that flat shooting so it defeats the purpose.
  19. I'd be up for casa blanca, it has good food and a good atmosphere.
  20. I use mostly lee dies, never had an issue with them that didn't come from not setting them properly.   They may be cheap in price, but their quality is right up there with the other brands IMHO.  All my pistol dies I try to get in carbide, since most straight walled cases don't need to be lubed.  I know many who really dislike lee equipment because its cheap.  They just can't reconcile the fact that cheap in price does not mean junk.  Lee does have some equipment that leaves something to be desired, but everything in their anniversary kit does work.  And if anyone tells you you will save money by reloading, they are only fooling themselves.  It's expensive to get started and will take a lot of shooting to break even.  So by starting with these machines that cost upwards of $500 you are just making it all that much difficult to catch up.  I am not one of those shooters that shoots thousands of rounds a month so if you are then maybe you will break even much faster but I did go through thousands of rounds using my Lee single stage before I upgraded to my Lee turret press.  Now if you find one of those expensive presses at a good price go for it, they are definitely good presses but that does not mean Lee presses are trash.
  21. I would just get the Lee turret press kit, it has everything except the dies and consumables for just $200 at Midsouth:  https://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/item/0000690304/Classic_Turret_Press_Kit_ You can use it as a single stage or allow it to index for a semi progressive press once you get comfortable with the process.
  22. Well hell, if thats all it takes. I suggest every gun owner write a letter to TPTB of the legality of the GCA so they can change their mind.
  23. While it is true that not all muslims are extremists,  enough are.  Just as not all Christians actually joined the crusades and not all Germans killed jews some muslims will not chop off your head.  But again, there are enough extremists in those groups to be wary of them when you fit the profile of the ones they want to kill.  Right now it sucks to be a peaceful muslim, as I am sure those non extremists in the above groups felt the same way.  As then, if you are against the actions that "your" group is doing then its up to you to stand up against it.
  24. I believe so, he is not to be in possession of a weapon not you.  Some discussion awhile back about a felon living with someone with a weapon leaned toward it being legal.
  25. Great news on the stints, I gather you will not need them?  Wish you well on your surgery,  and hope you get up on your feet soon.
