  1. That holds true for the most part, except maybe hunting without a license; that's strictly for owner and family.  As for permission, sometimes its better to ask forgiveness than permission.  While all the details of permission are ironed out, this whole event will be yesterdays news and there will be no media asking why service members aren't armed.   I seen somewhere that the NG is being allowed to carry if their Commander allows it, I wonder if that is a new or old rule?  Specially in now that it has come to light that at least two had personally owned weapons and engaged the terrorist.
  2. Personally I would love to see these guys/gals put behind bars.  Who are they to be the moral police?  The same goes for these guys putting up viruses, anti-virus popup ads, you know the ones that start of  "YOU'VE BEEN HACKED!! and install themselves when you press ok.  The only way anyone should be getting into anyone's personal information is though a warrant, and for that they better have a better reason than cheating.  To me cheating is between the two involved in a relationship, if they feel like doing it so be it.  I get so tired of people getting into everyone's personal business, like Miranda and Blake; who cares why it happened, who cares who cheated on who or with who, that's between them not all these busybodies.
  3. You are right, there is but a small silver lining IF they decide to do something about it and not just talk about it until everyone's attention goes to something else..
  4. The only reason I can think of is to keep it from getting stolen once everyone finds out the guy is dead.  If someone else lived there then I see no reason to haul it off unless given permission.
  5. Though they have been other attacks, I still hold that they are, so far, out of the ordinary.  If that were not the case, then you would think that mass shootings were just the norm seeing how many of them there have been lately.  ATM we expect to lose our guys in battle but not on our soil.  I do see us as legitimate targets though, that is why I say we should be armed and ready for the enemy to bring the fight to us.
  6. You are right as far as not lowering it for our troops overseas, or training accidents or any of the other "standard" way our troops can lose their lives.  But when an incident is out of the ordinary, which this soon may be, then it is not uncommon for the flag to be lowered.  If incidents like sandy hook can have it lowered, then surely an attack such as this merits it as well.  I don't think this president can have even the appearance of disliking our military, and incidents like this do him no favors when he fails to act in an appropriate manner or at least come out and strongly denounce these acts.
  7. The chain method is quite easy and you won't have to really mess with the briars part until you pull it out.  I pull them out then run them over with the tractors belly mower or brush hog.
  8. Just get some Roundup (glyphosate if you get it at co-op) or other vegetation killer product.  Multiple applications will probably be necessary though.  I have some on my land that just won't die, come to find out that the roots are like centipede grass roots, just spread everywhere so when you kill off one patch it grows somewhere else.  You may want to yank out as much as you can, they make a chain types that work great: http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200381588_200381588 Roundup can be applied any time of the year, better when leafy though.  And if rain is expected you may want to wait or get one that says waterproof after couple of hours.
  9. It's the new way of life, might as well get used to it.  But many of these people do it to themselves, I bet if he would of just kept it quite and not spout of on YouTube TPTB would not of even noticed.
  10. That's just stupid.  You go on and say you are not prejudiced then ban a whole class of people.  As a business, you can find ways of not selling to anyone you don't want to sell to, but to come right out and post it is just asking for trouble from the feds.
  11. Yes, I think the red cockaded woodpecker are still on the list.  When at Ft Bragg mid to late 80s they had a map called the woodpecker special.  It was so accurate that I used it for my hunting map, if the map said a woodpecker lived there you could bet the tree had either a single or double band (one was perimeter the other the actual tree marker) on it marking its location and 99% chance there was a woodpecker nest there.  The maps were so coveted that they could not keep them in stock, most accurate map I ever used until the gps.  That was on the plus side, on the other side of the coin was training.  When the conservationists came to post, may ranges were closed and a new multi million dollar one did not open as planned.  Training was so curtailed that you could not be near a nest tree.  I guess they figured out now what we knew then, the military activity did not bother the birds:   http://www.fayobserver.com/news/local/fort-bragg-and-red-cockaded-woodpecker-co-exist-comfortably-after/article_0c570329-0049-5543-a074-f8ec55604454.html
  12. And to further clarify mine, I have recently learned in another post that federal installations could/should lower it if within an area or region where a state has ordered them lowered.
  13. Good to know, I was not aware of this.  Maybe someone needs to let the post office folks know as well.
  14. A local fox affiliate had live shots yesterday and it was not lowered.  Haven't seen it covered by the other stations :waiting:
  15. I think we can agree on those folks not being allowed to own weapons, but for some VA or SS clerk to check off a box and without any adjudication you are placed on a list is no way to do it.  Some even take the fact that your bills are scheduled and paid electronically  to mean that you can't handle your affairs so should be put on a blacklist.  The Dems are trying their damnest to get our guns in every way possible, and by using what 'seems' to be a good idea gets even some of us to see it as a good thing.    Anyone hear of this: http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2015/apr/7/bill-would-pay-gun-owners-to-turn-assault-weapons-/   Just one more way to get their foot in the door.
  16. That would be my play.  Look at how the lottery here was played before legalizing it in TN, all around the border there were places to buy the lottery tickets.
  17. Garage type of shop, but they make a decent holster.   http://www.mtoholster.com/   They advertise on bookoo.com : http://clarksville.bookoo.com/a/3529541
  18. Not in Nashville, but there is a small business here in Clarksville. They did mine while I watched.
  19. Our compound is federal, inside Ft Campbell, KY. So it was either Ft Campbell, or our Regimental Cdr.
  20. I don't know who ordered it but it was at half staff on our compound on Friday when I left.
  21. Yea, much to the demise of one, I came upon one when dove hunting one day. It "rattled" next to me so I shot it, if it had not done that I may not even noticed it, or at least let it live.
  22. Though arming those that are in the crosshairs may not stop all the killings, it will at least give them a fighting chance. The police have arrived remarkedly fast in past incidents, and I feel they have saved lives such as at the draw mohammed contest, but they are still not as fast as having someone on site armed and ready to defend themselves. We know that more laws are not needed, but we need to start rethinking how we in the US want to live, either meek and dependant on law enforcement for protection or armed to the teeth and responsible for the front line of self defense.
  23. I don't know about now, but until 04' most did not get issued sidearms. The only reason I had one was due to having to be in civies most times and having to blend in. Honestly, I would rather of carried my M4 since it can be used in short or long range.
  24. While I understand your decision, I do not feel the same way. Just like when you sell a car, if the new owner gets drunk and kills someone with it, it is no reflection on you. A gun is a tool, albeit a deadly tool, which in and of itself can't harm anyone. As long as you do your due diligence, your responsibility ends there. I have sold/traded less than 5 weapons, but that's just because I don't like getting rid of any. Three can be traced to me through an FFL and if asked I can remember the circumstances under which I got rid of them but no names except the 12guage slug gun I recently traded for another rifle. If it ever turns out they get used in a deadly crime, I will feel no guilt over it, sad for the victims yes, but no guilt.
  25. Not sure about the Marines, but we in the Army do not get handgun training in basic. And until I got into special ops, handguns were only assigned to the CDR, 1SG and Plt Leaders. But that does not mean that training can't be scheduled ASAP for at least those in isolated (not on a base) locations. And they could quickly just allow those that already have a CCW carry immediately, the rest once qualified.
