  1. My concern when carrying a sidearm while loaded down is loosing it.  That is why I like holsters with some retention, which the Serpa and Safariland both have.
  2. Tell me about it, I'm trying to get a mold for over $100 and not even sure it will suit my purposes yet.
  3.   The bands are pretty elastic, and comfortable enough.  The holster holds the gun real well so there is little chance of it coming out unless you want it too (practice drawing).     Yea, those guys are formidable, and quick.  I've only run into one, and luckily I seen him before he seen me so I backed off, even with my 30-06 I wanted no part of that one.
  4. I have all that except the trigger guard tool, let me know how it works. You always run the risk of breaking off one of the "ears" doing it incorrectly, this should help with that. I also just ordered a tool which I discovered I "needed"; I am building a .277 Wolverine AR and the barrel did not have any dimples yet. I have done this manually before, most times with success but a couple of times I boogered up the finish a bit when the drill bit walked on me. I came across this and figured what the heck: http://slrrifleworks.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=579 All the rest I seen where either specific to a brand, expensive or just didn't look as they would be as versatile enough for different spaced set screws.
  5. I say use a Blackhawk leg holster like the Serpa platform , they are not that restrictive and are very secure. I have taken one of those into much rougher terrain than I imagine you will be in. I have a leg platform I could let you borrow to see if it will work for you; but it has the Berretta 92 or 1911 holster, if you can find a Serpa for the XDS it will mount right up to it. I think I may even have a Safariland version for the 92 as well. But honestly, if you will be up in the high country, I suggest you pack a little heavier, such as a .44, .45 or even 10mm. Some of those critters up there get pretty big. PM and let me know if you want to try it out.
  6. Download an app to convert them to a security camera:  http://www.cnet.com/how-to/turn-your-old-phone-into-a-home-security-camera/
  7. Montgomery county Shooting complex had an archery area, never used it so don't know what it all has but I seen some targets last time I went.
  8. Is the appendage actually missing?  They have been know to reattach limbs quite nicely, specially if it was accomplished quickly.
  9. Ah, yes looked it up.  Another manufacturer, not the company Tannerite.  It is said that mixture is even more unstable and can cause fires, I guess they had to make it so, so a .22 could set it off.
  10. Could be many things, info not released, media spin (bb guns don't get ratings), or simply reported way too soon before all facts were known.  That is why I wait for a bit before really getting into a story, its way too easy to get worked up about something when a little time can clarify everything, well most everything.
  11. I pay no more than about $1 a lb for lead, many on the Castboolits site sell it off and on and there are steady supplies at or around that price, here is one for about $1.07 a lb for range lead: http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?303176-range-lead-for-sale   I have also found locals selling lead from boat keels, got free lead from tire shops etc, so scrounging can definitely bring some of the costs down.  The most expensive thing this and reloading takes is time, you have to commit yourself to learning all the ins and outs of casting and reloading for cast or you will just frustrate the living snot out of yourself, or worse injure yourself.   But what I like is that I can experiment with different weights, shapes and coatings to see exactly what my guns like, and most of the equipment has resale value if you decide its just not for you.
  12. Doesn't surprise me, once they snap everyone they know says "he was the nicest guy", " I never thought he was capable" etc.  Unfortunately, sometimes the only thing that separates these folks is the act itself.
  13. Saving money by casting is the same as saving money by reloading.  You can go cheap, such as using a homemade lead melting setup and use a laddle to pour your molds to start, Lee molds etc but soon you will be looking to upgrade.  Then you will need to get something to size and lube your bullets, collect or purchase lead which can be anywhere from $1 to $2.50 lb for wheel weight ingots.  So short answer is no, not much savings but you will shoot more, learn a skill and as Dolo said, you can shoot no matter what the market does.
  14. Got this from another site, of course there the sky is falling.  To me it looks like someone may of come across a training exercise, our guys, but nowadays who knows: https://www.superstation95.com/index.php/world/1086
  15. Maybe a .17 or other higher velocity RF but I don't think a .22 LR has enough energy to make it go off, reliably at least.  Are there any other brands or just tannerite?  I haven't seen tannerite marketed for RF, I was looking at it once to see if a hand gun could set it off but unless it's a new product they only recommended rifles to set them off.
  16. Strike three I guess.  Seems he was given the benefit of a doubt a time or two, don't know if it was because of the fact that he was a pastor, wealthy, or simply didn't do anything bad enough to incarcerate him, but he slid by.  Bad mental health is a B, could almost be disguised as activism by the looks of it.
  17. +1 for the 5.11, and they are not too expensive to boot.
  18. I'm thinking he shot Daryl's ear off, as payback.
  19. The ones I have, have a couple of plastic plates that keep it from torquing the upper, like this, which do help.
  20. This was announced quite a bit ago, a year or two?, it effected many of the Freedom Group companies such as AAC, and DPMS and Bushmaster.  So they can make all the excuses they want, and they are true, but it's all about money.  Remington has made many unwise decisions IMHO, such as introducing a cheap source of 300 BLK ammo, then pulling it due to "QC" issues.  I, and others feel it was a bait and switch to get people into the caliber.  No, these companies are being run by a business doing things against the brand, which sucks because I have a few of their products.
  21. Clarksville used to be like that, now you hear about shootings and other crimes left and right.  Maybe those crimes just didn't make the news?  Those guns had to come from somewhere.
  22. With 9mm there is a slight taper, but even so I never heard any issues with thickness or too much expansion with any brass cases.  Check your die for buildup, then lube the cases a bit if needed afterward.
  23. I respectfully disagree, I have seen people post worse about many a business, especially the ones that post "no guns", and a few theaters etc.  And while this particular thread may of been a bad place to make that comment, it should not of been attacked like that.
  24. I don't know about that, I seem to recall a lion, or pair, that killed just for S&G; I think they even made a movie about it.
