  1. Not necessarily. Worked in a shop/training school for almost 3 years. Saw that happen a couple times where someone bought a gun, then got denied for the permit.
  2. You really just read into things what you want don't you? If you think the cops can't set up roadblocks out of an area after a suspected terrorist attack you are out of your flippin little mind Good post Ben. I remember an article written a few years ago in one of the gun rags, talking about how far ahead Israel was not only with the military, but with armed security and the private citizenry as well, compared to us here in the states where private security is still dominated by out of shape retirees and guys who can't make the cut at the academy.
  3. Lord just delete it.
  4. Yea that's really bad advice.
  5. I would bet that would actually have good real world application. You start singing and dancing with a big band in the background and the bad guy is gonna be too frightened and confused to do anything lol
  6. There were 2 in Memphis where both shooters had permits this year.
  7. LMFAO! Thank you! I see a ton of that on here.
  8. I don't personally believe so, but that is my interpretation of how the law is stated. I think the intent of the legislature is pretty clear when they go so far as to state: Now I can understand the argument that if you were engaged in illegal activity you would just have to attempt to retreat and exhaust all options before using deadly force, but I just don't see a sudden rash of gangbangers claiming self-defense for capping a rival member during a drug deal, drive-by or an innocent citizen during a robbery and winning their court case happening. I do believe that the shooter would be charged in that scenario however.
  9. Dave, I'm inclined to agree with you after reading over that. It doesn't seem holding someone at gunpoint would be against the law, but you just couldn't really back up the threat if they ran away, unless you pursued and applied the citizen's arrest laws. Fallguy, I agree with you mostly, I think the application of "can't claim self-defense while committing a criminal act" may be used extremely broad or limited, but I believe the intent of the legislature was that if you were committing a crime, especially against another person or property, you would not be able to claim self-defense period, not just having the stand your ground removed, etc.
  10. Every one in Memphis. They are too dumb to realize people have been carrying in the one in Southaven,MS since it opened and that signs have no legal weight down there. Idiots.
  11. It's all about how everyone interacts. We allow both types of bikes in my club and while most of us still ride cruisers, you can accommodate and adapt if everyone is willing. That being said though I doubt I'd be able to make a group trip around that time since that is around the time our club run is being planned up to Shiloh.
  12. Be that as it may I'd be REALLY hard pressed to see charges come against the property owner for that. I guess how it all went down would determine the final outcome, but if someone breaks into your car, then takes off, you catch them, tackle them, and hold them for the cops I would be shocked if you were charged with anything and even further I doubt a jury would convict on it. Also for the 2 or 3 of you that are talking about "initiating a new threat" I think you need to go back and read over the new laws on use of force in TN. You have many more laws on your side as a private citizen to make a citizen's arrest and use deadly force then a person does that is in the commission of a crime. You can't steal someone's stuff then suddenly not be breaking the law anymore, and I know there are a couple people here that disagree with me, but if you are in the midst of committing a criminal act you cannot claim self-defense. I want to see the court case where a guy rips out a stereo, takes off, the owner chases him, the criminal shoots him, and the DA says it was self-defense. BULL ****!
  13. There wasn't anyone else they could make a mod?! Damn slim pickins huh? Just kiddin buddy, congrats man!!
  14. I lucked out with my security gig. I work for my hospital system only so I'm not contract and we have a pretty wide range on what we are allowed to do. Alot of this stems from dealing with psychiatric patients, criminals brought in under arrest or in from the jail, as well as visitors and people who just don't belong causing disturbances, etc. I could never work for a contract company after this, it's got me spoiled after hearing how alot of companies treat their guys who are actually trying to do the right thing. Anyway to throw my 2 cents on the OP's scenario, I do believe bean bag rounds, etc are prohibited for the regular joe to own, I know for a fact they can't be purchased from any place I've talked to without an agency authorization. You may very well be OK holding someone at gunpoint on your own property in that scenario, but if they run and you shoot your probably going to be in ALOT of trouble. You do have the citizen's arrest thing going for you, but that's a risk you step into legally and physically over a car stereo. I nearly got killed Tuesday trying to stop a guy stealing hubcaps. I told the story in another thread, but even when it's your job or your stuff sometimes you have to know when to let it go. A stereo and center caps aren't worth dying over, trust me.
  15. From 9-530 it was *deep breath* 2 sets handcuffs, American tactical flashlight, ASP baton, Freeze +P, glove pouch, 5.11 search gloves, and a radio. Since then it's been a Kimber stainless pro-carry and a jolly disposition!
  16. I certainly do NOT want anything bad to happen to the President. I don't like the guy based on his political standings or why he is in office, but he is still a husband and a father and I sincerely hope the worst thing that befalls him is that he is removed from office next election. However, if something ever did happen and people rioted and wanted "to kill whitey" and all that crap...well I think we all know what the outcome would be of the less-than civil war.
  17. HAHAHAHAHAHA I read this and was like "NNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOO", then watched the video. I'm OK now lol
  18. I have met Ben a few times at the range and he is a stand up guy. Watching him shoot and drill is certainly something to be experienced!
  19. marriage. man's demise.
  20. I gotta write that one down. I like that alot.
  21. I don't want to come off as rude, condescending, etc so please don't take it that way, but you are going to get yourself hurt or killed. An unloaded gun is useless, it is a doorstop, a paperweight, or at best a heavy projectile you can throw. If you can't get quality training right now and you're afraid of an accident then load a mag and just don't chamber the round. Or at the very least leave the gun empty COMPLETELY and keep a loaded mag next to it. The problem is that regardless of what you'll get told from people you trust sometimes, they are wrong or just giving you the cautious answer, I know your brother wants you to be safe and trained, but the problem is he's leaving you vulnerable by telling you to leave the gun unloaded. There may not always be time to load that gun and when you need it you will need it NOW. I hope you get some good training and take some of what I and others have said here to heart.
  22. I'll burn down the studio myself lol WWWOOLLLLVERINES!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  23. Geez. Glad the rider is ok.
