  1. Yea because I guess we should just let people freeze to death because they missed a payment. I seriously think the problem here is that some of you are so jaded by the people who have NEVER contributed you forget that there are some people out there who actually deserve a little help and compassion now and then. I suppose when people pitched in to help buy a member a car or we donated money for gift cards to help people out last Christmas we shouldn't have because they are just a bunch of bums huh? Maybe we shouldn't be benefactors, David works right? Why can't he run his own forum, he must be a bum too. Leeching off us, what nerve! If most of what I've seen here is what is representative of the "Christian Conservative" then I'm damn glad to call myself a moderate. I have always been about personal responsibility and making my own way and I have done so all my life, but sometimes in life people deserve some help and compassion.
  2. I backed out of this monster, but I had to at least reply to this because it's not correct. MLGW WILL and HAS cut customers', who were disconnected for non-payment, utilities back on during extreme temps. They did it this summer by re-connecting and postponing cut offs and they did it last winter as well. After that elderly war vet froze to death in his house up north alot of places changed their policy. They found him dead with the money on the table to pay. He couldn't get out because of the weather. Seems to me that everyone here was very angry at the electric company over that. Oh well everybody loves the big red trucks though!
  3. I love it. "I didn't even know what was wrong til the next year!"
  4. Wonder what the argument will be for some of our fellow TGO goers then? Probably the same.
  5. That's about what happened with me and my MPD ticket. I notified him so he saw it but besides thanking me for notifying he said nothing else and gave me a ticket.
  6. If he did set the fire then obviously I'm gonna take a different stance and no, I wouldn't expect a FF to die just over property. There are plenty of what ifs that can be thrown out. I just get tired of the slippery slope/total anarchy arguments. I'm just telling you guys what I feel would have been the right thing to do in my opinion based on the general circumstance.
  7. I don't see this as freeloading. I see this as careless yes, but like Mav said something should have been done different. Remember who you're talking to Brad, every night I see people who are on welfare, Tenncare, or no insurance, etc leeching off us at the hospital and the TN tax payer. They are rarely ever in a life threatening or even serious situation. The guy paid his price for his careless stupidity and I agree he should have. I just think he should have been able to have his house saved and paid dearly monetarily to the fire dept after. I've known people who have been victims of house fires even when a FD responded. It's a horrible thing I just don't think someone with a heart could stand by and watch. Everything he has is gone now. Some things I'm sure he'll never be able to replace. So if you can sit there and tell me that's ok from a moral stand point then you are certainly not who I thought you were.
  8. I loved those peanuts as a kid lol Now one thing I do love is Chik-o-stiks! On a side note YAY HALLOWEEN!!! Lol
  9. Well I concede. Don't agree, but I concede the argument. FWIW I pay my county fire protection and I pay my own insurance. I also make a living out of making sure people stay safe. I think something should have been done differently. It's just my opinion and my belief. Sometimes doing the right thing isn't always easy or popular. Isn't it Jamie who's sig line says "What's legal isn't always right and what's right isn't always legal."?
  10. I had stickers for a long time on my car. NRA, Friends of NRA, Range USA and never had an issue. I think it MIGHT be an attraction for the right criminal, but there is no evidence to support a targeting theory. On clothing I did read an article a few years ago that mentioned shirts, hats, and even the "shoot me vests". His ideas leaned more towards sticking out than advertising. Especially with the vest. Alot of people are oblivious to certain things, but then again in a world of fashion, some things do draw attention to you. That's not to say I don't wear my Keep TN Zombie Free shirt with pride.
  11. That's my point exactly. It's not that they just didn't respond they stood there ON SCENE and just watched. That is just inhuman to me. I guess though if this thread was about cops screwing up everyone would be bashing the hell out of them. Guess everyone really does love firefighters.
  12. Did you read the article? He said he would pay. He didn't ask for a hand out. You guys that are comparing this to healthcare and insurance need to get a grip and read the full article and go beyond your own narrow views. I'm not a supporter of forced healthcare and I'm not an Obama supporter. I'm talking about basic human decency. I would have pulled the hose off the truck and put the fire out by myself if I was on that crew. If you wouldn't then I just hope you are never in a position to come on TGO and complain about anything because I'll be first in line to tell you it was your fault no matter what the spin. Some of the responses here are why we are ****ed as a species.
  13. He offered to when he called 911. And your argument is invalid, since some states actually allow the use of deadly force to protect property. So if his children or pets had burned to death in the house it's still all gravy because he didn't pay the fee right? Maybe the article was right about how opposing sides view this. This isn't about insurance, money, fees, or anything else. It's about being a decent ****ing person. I hope you and Lester aren't in any type of public service.
  14. Nobody is talking about insurance! This is not a case of the guy whining that he's not covered because he didn't buy insurance. He failed to pay a fee. He offered to pay the fee when he called 911. So wheres the argument now?
  15. I think that's a little different. I think everyone can agree he didn't pay the fee bad on him, but I liken this to a cop standing by and watching a woman get raped and murdered just because she didn't pay a "police protection fee". Some things go beyond just a simple "He should have paid". Years ago people helped their neighbors put out house fires. Now we watch them burn over 75 bucks?
  16. I'm sure, but legally I don't see what grounds he would have. Morally I think it was wrong, but legally they were not obligated to put the fire out. Same way as the courts decided the police are not obligated to protect you.
  17. OK. Guy should have paid his fee, but I don't think I could stand idly by and watch someone's entire home and belongings burn to the ground. I don't get how this is being turned into a Conservative V. Liberal debate though. Especially considering Liberals are sme of the biggest supporters of "Zero Tolerance". 18. Bought one as a "functional plinker" when I bought my wife her Springfield GI 1911. Ended up selling both those guns actually. Both due to feeding issues primarily, but the P22 just would never work for me. I loved the feel of the gun and the function, but no matter what ammo I used it would never cycle more than 2 or 3 mags without some sort of malfunction. Still wanting to get another .22 pistol, but too many other non-gun related items I gotta take care of first.
  19. Warbird makes an excellent point. It's the main reason I got the Clipdraw for my Kel-Tec. It's not my favorite thing to carry defense wise, but it's better than nothing and it hides under a tight Tshirt even.
  20. That's pretty good though considering I can't even run 3 miles. I'm like Gimli in Lord of the Rings...very dangerous over short distances lol
  21. Yea saw that earlier. Loved how the people in Memphis were "surprised". Please.
