Has anyone actually been caught in a "DMZ"?
Punisher84 replied to aquaman67's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
+1 FWIW I've never had anyone NOT give me their HCP when I've asked, but I'm not a power tripper either. I've always ended up in some nice conversations about guns when I've dealt with the regular HCP holder at the hospital. Were not posted so it's a policy thing. Now the guy who was drunk, carrying, and threatening people...things no work out so nice for him. He did have an HCP too, everyone else has been illegal. -

Aww. I'm sorry we're not nicer about you violating the law and risking someone else's infant's life. -
Razor if you're spraying Fox out every year you're wasting money man. That stuff is good for at LEAST 2 years. And by good I mean scream inducing.

You are about dumber than a bag of dirt. If that was my kid we'd be having some serious issues. -

I think I figured out exactly why Guy and I hate each other in his last few posts... Guy have you ever worked in a LE capacity of any type? I'm gonna run that from a security guard to a federal agent. You seem to have alot of "training knowledge" but very little street knowledge. Your comment about NOPD really gave me a chuckle. They know alot about crowd control because of Mardi Gras? Please. Most of them ran off during Katrina. -
Maybe TSA needs flash cards?

Going over scenarios are fine, but do you really think it's bad advice to tell someone they will most likely be killed, possibly by their own weapon, if they fail to act? I fleshed out my explanation more than a few times in this thread now. I'm not trying to be an *******, but I'm not gonna coddle the guy. He asked a question, it got answered several times. After that it's the old "what-if" game that no one has the answers to. -

Can't really add much that Jamie didn't say above, but I'll say this and leave it be. Carrying a gun is a big responsibility, you seem to be well aware of that, and it can protect you or get you killed. There's the saying about if you carry there is always at least one gun in the fight? If you're not prepared to use it, it may very well be used against you. I admit I did a poor job of addressing this initially and just kinda piggy backed on Spoolie's comment without any sort of further statement. The thing about TGO is there is alot of good information here that sometimes gets missed among the off-topic posts, bashing posts, and general mess that comes with forums. There is also alot of bad, illegal, and potentially deadly information that gets put out. Luckily most of the mods here catch that stuff pretty quick, but it does get through. Point of all that is if you truly aren't ready to carry and can't/won't accept the possibility of dealing with the repercussions of shooting someone...don't carry a gun, because you could end up making a bad situation worse merely by having it. Far fetched? Most likely, but then again most of the members here have not even drawn their gun or been in a SD situation either, but they still carry. -

Ok. Aside from the whole you don't like me and I don't like you pissing match thing you've got going let's get down to it. It doesn't piss me off when people ask the same question repeatedly, I said it gets old. I didn't blast the guy, I made a serious statement. He is, by his own admission, not ready to carry a firearm. Firearms instructors, quality ones, can be a great source of information. I don't know where you received you're training or information. Born with the knowledge of the ancients I guess. No training is the end all be all, but quality training and instruction is much better than listening to the wide swath of misinformation and general asshattery that can be found here on many occasions. I know you won't accept that from me and that's fine man keep chugging on with the whole "Punisher is a meany head" thing you got going, but it's the truth and the rest of your post was actually good information. -
I've noticed a big trend against this, not saying just here, just because John Wayne was in the original. I never did get the whole aversion to remakes anyway. If you like the original, watch that, but sometimes updates can be really good.

Some company came out with a thing that slipped over your hand and rotated, etc and one of my old instructors got it as a prototype after we played with it for 8 hours we all came to one conclusion...it pretty much blew ass. Low-light training class sounds like a good option. The glove thing just doesn't sound that plausible to me as a good SD accessory.

Ok gotcha. I wondered if it would I've just never messed with blanks. I still think loading one in the chamber of a carry gun is a bad idea though. On many levels.

You know I'm gonna take the time to kinda prop up the other end of that spectrum. We've had alot of new members come on and conduct themselves just as bad or worse than any of us that have been here a few years. Also, I'm fine helping someone out but there is a search function here. When someone asks the same question over and over it gets old. I get that people come to things with no experience, but how you pose your question has alot to do with it. There are people here who ARE experts. LEOs, military, instructors, and people who have just spent alot of time around guns. Sure there is BS, but the Internet is full of that. I honestly wonder how some people who get so riled up on here about the way someone answered a question can cope in the real world. -

Point taken and I'm honestly not trying to harsh on the guy, but by his own posts he's admitted he's basically scared to carry due to liability. He needs proper training and education by certified instructors, not differing opinions of gun forum members. TGO is great for information, but it can also be a minefield of bad information for a new gun owner. My point was if he carries a gun with that mindset he is going to most likely get killed with his own gun or hurt/killed because he waits too long to use it. -

Yup. Bubba is gonna get killed with his own gun or beat to death long before he draws. -
I loved the original and am a John Wayne fan, but after No Country for Old Men the Coens can do no wrong by me. I can't wait for this, it looks fantastic.
-
I'm not a 100% on this, but I don't believe a blank will cycle a real weapon. It has to be modified. At any rate that's just a really bad idea.
-
Cocked, locked, and ready to rock. Take your lessons from the people who fight, train, and carry a weapon every day. Ask any police officer if they carry with an empty chamber.

Lmao indeed. But damn if it isn't one of the most volatile substances on earth. Opening one from a vending machine is like opening a soda claymore.

My vote is for smartass, but that's just my opinion.

Honestly I'm not surprised. Really, let's take a look at last year alone. We got alot passed that has sat stagnant for years under Naifeh. While it wasn't all perfect, it's still a big leap IMHO. Now, after all the hoopla and screaming and ranting about all the other issues and the big turnover what was the one thing that really stuck out about all this? Oh yeah...Doug Jackson, our biggest voice, got hung out to dry. Most people do not give a **** about gun laws. There are those of us that are for and those against, but most just don't care, UNTIL it's jammed down their throats for a year by an anti-gun media. My point is there are alot of other issues that are facing the state and the nation besides just ours. I'm not a Harwell fan or a Haslam fan, but my point is I don't think they are going to take anything away from us. I also didn't expect anyone to be the new "carry permit holder advocate" poster child after the voters made an example out of Doug Jackson either. Now maybe it's true it was just the (D) that killed him, I'm sure it had alot to do with it, but I think some people sent him a message too.

I have had the same problems Seaslug had with my classic 5.11 cotton pants. I'm not a Leroy approved washer expert , but I do take pretty good care of my clothes. Haven't had any problems with their TDU/Taclite stuff, but I wouldn't buy the classic cotton pants again. I have a pair of the tan that has held up still, but my black and green ones have pretty much had it. Their shirts, coats, jackets, and the like have all been great. I have one of their fleece patrol jackets for work that is AWESOME. The only thing I will speak out firmly against is their boots. I absolutely demolished 2 pairs of their boots just working at the hospital and the gun range. It was ridiculous. Oddly enough, I then bought a pair of Galls brand boots during their 80% off sale for about 10 bucks and they are still on my feet and flawless a year later.
