I'm not really sure how to start, but anyway here goes. I found out tonight my little cousin on my wife's side has been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. She had it confirmed this week by her doctors. She is only 15 years old. According to her doctors it is a very advanced and aggressive case and unless she gets on medications and gets a good neurologist she could be in a wheelchair in 2-3 years. My wife's mother passed away from MS and her half-sister also has it so this is really hitting our family hard. I'm not asking for anything other than just some prayers. Even if you don't believe in God just maybe look up and say something. We'll take whatever kind of miracle we can get. I'm not usually the type to air my family issues out, but after this year I feel as close to some of you as I do my friends I see everyday. Thank you and all I have to say is 2008 is officially the crappiest fu**ing year I have seen overall.

HCP Holders - Supplemental Qualification Opportunity
Punisher84 replied to Fallguy's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I deal with Memphis PD mostly. It's a little bit of both, but yea the standards are pretty low. As far as my job I'm one of the Training Officers for one of the local hospital groups here in Memphis. So I have to be aware of not only our legal procedures, but detention, search and seizure law as well. I agree with that for the most part, except the cops are not the end all be all on the law. You have read my posts in the past so you know I'm pretty pro-cop (bout to go through reserve training soon hopefully EMTRN!!) , but I have seen officers with just as much ignorance of the laws as the common citizen. That was pretty much all I'm getting at and hey if I'm proven wrong on something I like to know, because I like to be on top of things and do things right. That's a part of the reason I'm 24 years old and teaching guys twice my age how to do their jobs and not eat donuts all day -
HCP Holders - Supplemental Qualification Opportunity

First that bold statement: That is not always the case. There have been several instances where prosecutors have gone after people and used ammo, caliber, or even type of firearm against them to a jury. Second, there may be several trainers that are not versed in the current laws, but I know and work with SEVERAL trainers, cops and civilian, that could probably tell you more about the law than a few lawyers trying cases right now and most certainly more than your average beat cop. I'm in friggin' private security and I know more about the laws than about 75% of the cops I interact with everyday. In order to understand the law all one must do is research. Research the laws themselves and then follow and research cases in your jurisdiction. -
Dogs are just the standard fixture in most of our lives. The boy and his dog stories are always the best. Every guy cried at Old Yeller. Dogs just love you no matter what, they don't judge, they don't ask for much. They just want some attention every now and again. They truly are man's best friend.

Ain't that the truth.

I can't really say much because I'm thinking about crying, so Merry Christmas man. Just Merry Christmas.

I've been blessed this year with a good job and I'm really thankful for that when others have lost, so instead of going all out and being foolish my wife and I set a small limit for each other. I bought my Mom (my only close family) a few things and we are just going to have a low key Christmas. Best wishes to all and Merry Christmas. I'd tell you what I bought my wife, but she lurks on here...Yes lurking wife I mean you.

That's why you'll never get that promotion or moustache rookie! Seriously, 18.5 or more. Does anyone here really need to be reminded of ATF measurements? Do we need to re-hash that thread?!

AND NOW FOR THE AIRING OF GRIEVANCES! I'll start...MERRY CHRISTMAS!

HCP Holders - Supplemental Qualification Opportunity

I caught this late, but did read through it and I think I might be able to clarify a few points. 1. It is not so much the gun as it is caliber. A prosecutor could take a .45acp and set it next to a .22 and make a pretty good argument to a jury about "controllability" and recklessness in using a "hi-power" round. Things of that nature. You could qualify with a .45 and carry anything below and be able to defend that pretty well. 2. The talk of "If it's a good shoot, it won't matter" is BS. There is always potential for a good shoot to turn bad. Anybody that keeps up with defensive shooting stories should know that. 3. It's simple insurance. BigPoppa did say this, but again it's 10 bucks or how ever much at different schools. You go qualify, shoot, whatever you want to call it and you get a document saying you did so. The thing I see with it is what would you rather have? A document saying you qualified in that caliber firearm or nothing while a prosecutor is accusing you of manslaughter because you were reckless in using a gun you didn't qualify with. Remember this folks, what makes sense to us WILL NOT make sense to most jurors. Just my opinion on it. -
I'll throw in with that. Verbal and I have already fought, db has said something witty, someone has been a tool, and musicman has gotten a lick or two in, Fallguy has pointed out something intelligent, and unless Tungsten is gonna chime in I think we've pretty much met the formula for a finished thread.

The definition of insanity: Doing the same thing over and over expecting different results.

Now, now Verbal is an ok guy. *ducks flying shoe*

Evil shenanigans!

And thank you to Tungsten for bringing my covert internet viewing skills at work to a grinding halt thanks to laughing like a 5 year old watching The Muppets. Anyway, nice GSG I'm gonna get one myself eventually.

The only thing I can say is that I hope you have better sense than you have displayed here when you are carrying a firearm around. There was no "CHASE". It was a poor choice of words that he has rectified several times. Everyone here has debated whether he should or shouldn't have or what they would do and left it at that. You insist on making this into an 80's action flick chase scene. Get over yourself. Add something of value, answer the multiple questions posed to you, or leave it be. Do something besides flaming people just to get your post count up. People build reputations here. You are not building a very good one.

RUH ROH RAGGY! This is interesting in that Oh my God my foot just fell off kind of interesting.

Are you a troll or just really immature? I don't think you GET 8 pages of posts. You're not even debating you're just being chilidish.
-
Do you actually read the other posts?

This is the only part I'm going to reply to, since the rest is pretty much difference of opinion on his actions right or wrong and I'll concede that. Yes I understand military service, as far as me being a keyboard commando? I've never claimed to do or be anything other than what I am. That is for the record...ex-army with a medical discharge, Training Officer for Campus Security for a local large service hospital, and soon to be reserve police officer. I have another job, but due to employer request I can't discuss it here. No it's nothing with the CIA, I just respect his business wishes. I work with LEOs every single day and what I do everyday is in the same league I just don't get the joy of saying I'm an LEO. I get pretty much the same work and all the fun of walking up to a car not knowing who is inside, fighting with people who may or may not be armed, risk of diseases, lawsuits, and the disgust of people who don't understand what I do or why I do it and then go well you're not a cop. I have no problems with what I do, as a matter of fact have turned down 2 offers from local agencies to try out because I like where I work and feel that I make a difference. I stand behind what I said and how I feel about the situation overall. I've always gotten along with you and I do feel that I probably stepped over the line a little bit. So for that I'm sorry. If you accept that good stuff. If not, then I guess we both get to go **** ourselves.
-
Verbal have you ever been a cop? Your lack of knowledge about procedure shows in that post. Maybe I'm defending DB more than I would normally because I know him and have discussed this situation at a bit more length than he has here, but you guys that are flaming him and acting like he chased her down the street at 80 mph flashing his hi-beams and honking need to get a grip. You have no idea the issues that some of these neighborhoods in Memphis are facing right now with burglaries, VIOLENT burglaries. If DB had gotten shot that would be horrible and you'd all be going well that's what he gets for playing cop blah blah blah cowardly blah. The truth is if more people did take the time to notice something beyond their ass crime would be lower, but that's ok. You can leave it to guys like me, Jlowe, DaveTN, EMTRN, and every other LEO, government agent, and even corporate security officer to take care of you. So remember that the next time you are stuck at a traffic stop bitching about the cop that is holding you up, because YOU WOULDN'T DO THAT JOB. I'm done with this. Some of you guys are like bad electric wiring, you can't figure out if you want to be on or off.

Making friends fast huh?
