  1. One of my local reps Brian Kelsey (the guy who said he had "a big problem with Kent Williams being speaker) put forth a motion to have TN deny the stimulus money. He got blasted for it as being "foolish and young" of course. I, however, will be letting Mr. Kelsey know his efforts are appreciated. He is one to keep an eye on, he is far smarter than the Democrats like to admit.
  2. I thought, back when they did the auto bailout, that it was a bit uneven. OK so we all got a 600 buck check back in the summer. 600 bucks is not changing jack for me. Sure it paid off what was left of a credit card, but for people with serious debt that was like shooting a BB gun at a freight train. The biggest issue I see with all the bailouts and stimulus crap is that we are just burying ourselves further in debt. They are trying to put a band aid on a gunshot wound. If anything gets back going right it will just be out of natural rotation. There is so much money going out nowadays to take care of people that are living longer, people popping out kids like rabbits, etc it's almost impossible to control. Lewis Black made a good point once about starting up Public Works projects. He said "You build a big ****ing thing. You plan and design the big ****ing thing. You buy supplies for the big ****ing thing, then you hire people to build the big ****ing thing. This creates jobs, then people pay their bills and go buy small ****ing things from the money they got from building the big ****ing thing. Then, people come to see the big ****ing thing and pay to see the big ****ing thing. This stimulates the ****ing economy!" Ah good ole fashioned expletive filled wisdom
  3. I think we are looking at doing a light load. Basically what we are looking at doing is taking a Friday evening through Monday morning and just trying out different things. Hell, we could survive off of canteen water and a 3 day food bar for that long, but we want to try various things we might run into if we were out for far longer. Starting fires with just flint and steel. Catching, cleaning, and cooking fish with just basic items. Making a weather shelter. We just want to see what we can do and learn where we need to improve and learn. After doing this a time or two, we'll work on really packing light, covering ground, etc.
  4. My wife made me proud last night. We were talking about different items and how to make certain things and I was getting kinda complex when she goes "Baby, just take the lint out of the damn dryer." It took me a second to get it. God bless the farm girls
  5. I agree with that statement. While we can sit here until Doomsday debating the issue of permit vs. no permit and etc. I abide by the law. I see your point, but I just don't advocate breaking the law.
  6. Duh. It's only like the best graphic ever dude!
  7. No actual firestarter at first. Just gonna use flint and steel. TRY to use flint and steel.
  8. Not camping IN Memphis lol True. What we are wanting to test is just basic skills. Can we start a fire with a flint, can we catch fish with basic tools, clean, cook, and eat them, etc. Baby steps my good sir.
  9. Bamboo is good stuff. Bouillon cubes are really good idea! The bottles of the cubes are pretty small and you could use a cube for at least a few meals. I am going to try out a few different things this spring when we go camping. My buddy and I are planning on taking one weekend and just going hiking and camping with what we can carry in a pack and see how it turns out.
  10. I think that is REALLY bad advice for a number of reasons.
  11. Allright we're talking surviving, but if you have a few things to season up that squirrel you just killed why not use them? I was trying to think of what kind of campfire recipes one might come up with. What kind of things could you use to season meat or add flavor? Also, what kind of ideas do you guys have for making a fishing rod or other useful hunting/fishing tools?
  12. Tell her to ask her husband and the rest of those hypocritical ass clown this question: "What is safer? Me carrying a gun safely to protect myself from rape, murder or both and our children from any danger we might face or to not carry and risk all of the above with no chance to defend ourselves?" If they say no then tell her to get a divorce, take the kids, take his money and spend some of it on the permit class and a brand new gun.
  13. I think these things are just more of a gauge for the paper to see how their readers feel. Nothing more.
  14. Normally I'm all for the PD and don't mind being helpful, but yea in this case if the SS had shown up at my front door about a damn sign..."Come back with a warrant or...
  15. I am currently starting to stock up on the little things. Springs are probably going to wear out long before anything else. Just depends on the gun. If it's a Glock I'd probably have a few spare pins lying around and such, a 1911 I'd have springs mostly.
  16. Just to answer the last question, yes they will issue a misdemeanor warrant for failure to appear. I think! I'm not 100%, but I believe that is how it works.
  17. That does freak me out quite a bit actually.
  18. *plays Taps*
  19. Then we show up and bomb them right?!
  20. What tool wrote that blog? Idiot.
  21. I agree. I guess I'm just looking at it from a police officer's standpoint since alot of my friend's are cops and we discuss this alot. It's alot easier to just send someone on their way when they show you their permit, than have to wait on someone's history to get run through a database. I think there are arguments to be made both ways and i think the permit process needs to be changed, but I think the permit itself is not a horrible thing nowadays. The biggest problem is the restrictions placed on us, not the piece of plastic in our wallet. Edit: I know this is not a popular viewpoint among some of the more hardcore members here, but really ask yourself this. Are you upset that you have to have a permit to carry or are you upset that you can't carry most places legally? To me restrictions placed on permit holders is infringing on our rights, not somebody requiring me to have a little piece of plastic that I could kindly show the police officer so he knows I'm one of the good guys. That is just not a problem to me.
