I haven't loaded for a 308 AR, but for M1A/M14 type rifles IMR 4895 was a common powder used in highpower matches. Typical top loads were 42gr for military brass / 43gr for commercial brass with a Sierra 168 gr BTHP, OAL 2.800". As always, start low and work up to those loads to see what works in your rifle.

Just moved to Nashville area from Detroit

Welcome from another recovering (damn)Yankee. I escaped Michigan over 30 years ago and really like living in Tennessee. rmiddle has some really good advice. :D -
Hello and welcome. The ones that I am familiar with are the 3 TWRA Ranges near Nashville: Stones River, Cheatham Wildlife Management Area, and the Montgomery County Shooting Complex. Here's a link to info at the TWRA website (middle TN is Region II). http://tn.gov/twra/article/firing-ranges-j1 Stones River: http://tn.gov/twra/article/stones-river-hunter-education-center Montgomery County Shooting Complex (MCSC): http://shoottn.org/ MCSC is the nicest public range I have ever been to, but also the farthest away from Nashville - up to 400 yd for rifles. Stones River is nice range, but last time I was there the longest rifle range was 100 yds. Both Stones River and MCSC have Range Officers. Cheatham Wildlife Management Area has 25, 50, and 100 yard backstops. It's a decent range. No Range Officers, so shooters have to work out cease fires.

If I'm still alive, I'll check back with you in 20 or 30 years and see what your opinion is then. :)

+1 to what hughd wrote We've had 3 dogs since having the "buried wire" type pet fence (~1 acre) installed and it has worked well for us. Initial training (for both us and the dogs) was essential. One of our dogs (a male lab) braved the shock a couple of times to go after another male dog that was in our yard (fence doesn't cover all of our yard). Other than that we've had really good luck with it for over 15 years. We also lost one of the control units when lightening struck a tree in our yard (get a good surge protector).

Lone Wolf did the machining for an RMR for my Glock 19: http://www.lonewolfdist.com/Detail.aspx?PROD=156471&CAT=4877 For a Glock OEM slide and RMR it shows $134.95 (plus sights & shipping). In May 2015 they turned mine around in about a month. (I bought a Lone Wolf slide and didn't modify Glock OEM slide.)

I don't have one, but I remember a pretty thorough review Jeff Quinn (gunblast.com) did on one in .45 Colt a couple of years ago: Write-up: http://www.gunblast.com/Taylors-Alaskan45.htm Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FMLhWxG-QUY

Certainly I'm not the only one old enough to remember the 60's? Bayonets were used with some regularity for riots back then. :)

I think that TMF and Wingshooter could both be correct. You can't get the flu from a flu shot (flu shot - dead virus, nasal spray - weakened live virus), but you can get flu symptoms from the flu shot. I regularly experience this when I get a flu shot (on medicine that suppresses my immune system). From WebMD: http://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/prevention-15/vaccines/fact-sheet-vaccines "If you get the flu shot, you might have a mild fever and feel tired or achy after you get vaccinated. Some people also have soreness, redness, or swelling where they got their shot. These problems aren’t serious and don’t last long." So you don't get the flu, but can feel bad after getting the shot. I usually feel bad for a couple of days, but I get the shot every year. Worth it to me to have a fighting chance of avoiding the full-blown flu.

patrick28, if you end up deciding that you want buy any Polish furniture, RTG Parts is the best place I've found: http://www.robertrtg.com/store/pc/Furniture-c37.htm?pageStyle=h&ProdSort=3&page=3&idCategory=37&viewAll=yes I've bought a fair amount of stuff from them over the years and have been happy with every purchase. P.S. Really like the AK in your avatar, viscero. :) -
Finnish M39s at Classic Firearms
mike_f replied to LCPfraTN's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
I watched the "unboxing" video showing them opening several of the containers of rifles. Most of them looked really nice. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NttaT37R1_I So far I have resisted buying one......... -
Vortex Strike Eagle thumbs down
mike_f replied to justincase's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
That's disapponting about the Strike Eagle. Was the scope mounted on a rifle and at what distance away were you viewing objects on 1x? -
We let our then 3-year-old name our black lab pup Bingo. They both seemed happy with the choice. Although I usually referred to him as Stinky. :)

Welcome to TGO! What part of SW Michigan? I grew up in Benton Harbor, came to TN about 30 years ago.

Looks very slick. Would you mind sharing a link to the switch that you bought?

I just bought an AR Performance 20" barrel for my TGO receiver set. "223 Wylde chamber 4150 CMV 8 twist 5R. M4 feed ramps, rifle length gas system, .750 gas block--NOTE these barrels have a 5/8-24 muzzle thread. Melonite treated barrels have proven to near twice as long as stainless barrels and are just as accurate. A .223 Wylde will handle full strength 5.56 military loads." http://www.ar15performance.com/inc/sdetail/11562/12239 I don't have it put together yet, but I have had a 6.8SPC upper with one of their barrels that was very accurate (which is why I bought one of their 5.56 barrels).

If they do, he'd probably prefer them not saying on a public forum.

I just entered this one in theakforum.net AK of the Month photo contest: http://www.theakforum.net/forums/14-general-discussion/169389-ak-month-photo-contest-2.html

I thought they just hated me. I gave up on them a few years ago. Used to keep up with the points, receive their gift cards as presents. Similar stories as everyone else. The final straw was when they were having a sale on .223 ball ammo (forget which brand UMC, Winchester white box, or similar). This wasn't during a panic or run on ammo. I would guess that the shelf had well over 100 boxes when I was shopping. I had I wanted to buy 10 boxes (200 rounds total). At checkout, the cashier says the limit is 2 boxes (40 rounds). I pull out the sales flyer and there's no limit mentioned. I ask to talk w/ a manager and he says the same thing - I can only have 2 boxes. I just walked out and haven't been back since. There are a lot of other places to shop.

Congrats! Sounds like a great location. Welcome to Tennessee!

My last Form 4 suppressor transfer took 10 months (came through in January 2014). So you're probably very early in your wait. Also, the transferor had to check the box on the Form 4 that the BATFE could release info to the transferee. Or the BATFE won't give you (as the transferee) any status info (in my admittedly limited experience). If you call the NFA Branch you'll need the serial number for them to check. At this point in your wait they will probably be able to tell you when it went "pending" (basically officially entered into the system to begin actual processing).

After they couldn't sort out the whereabouts of the first batch of reports, they couldn't stay mad at us over it. We sent them a duplicate batch of reports which arrived a couple of days after our official deadline. In retrospect, the nicest thing they could have done was to NOT award us any more assignments. The way the fee structure was set up we broke even on the various assignments, if we were lucky and everything went nearly perfectly (that didn't always happen though). Not the USPS's fault, it was the fault of the knuckleheads from our company that negotiated the contract.

For my job I have shipped all kinds of stuff all over North America. Using all of the major carriers (USPS, UPS, FedEx, DHL, etc.) and several trucking companies for larger freight. I have horror stories about all of them. Also, my current Post Office is wonderful and I've never had even the smallest of problems from them. But since this is a funny USPS stories thread.......... The USPS was a client of mine for engineering services about 10 years ago or so. They had a very specific way that everything had to be done, specified down to the smallest detail. One of these things was that all correspondence, including all of our engineering reports, had to be sent by USPS. Fair enough. Another thing that was very specific and inflexible was our schedule for submitting the reports - we "X" days after receiving our authorization to proceed for our reports to be delivered. You can see where this is going..... We did our thing, sent off our reports via USPS Express Mail (the guaranteed delivery service they offer) addressed to USPS Headquarters. The due date came and our reports didn't arrive. Heated phone call from our USPS contact about how we didn't fulfill the terms of our contract. Not going to get any further work (was a multi year, multi facility contract). So I gave them the tracking info and they tried to track the package down. The reports disappeared en route. Just gone. Tracked into one facility, never tracked out. They supposedly searched the facility high and low, the package had just disappeared. Never was found.

Glad it worked for you two. I couldn't get the a link to work consistently, so I'm glad Threeeighty figured it out. The links I attempted to post wouldn't have the discount sometimes. Never could figure it out. This was a good deal from Sierra Trading Post and recurs occasionally. When I price check a lot of their "sales" vs. Amazon, the same item is offered at or below Sierra Trading Post's "sale" price. So I always cross check before buying.
