I really hate the idea of any percentage being used. I should be allowed to carry anywhere not posted. I also don't think there needs to be a "no drinking provision" since we already have a separate law that prohibits being intoxicated while carrying. Since I've never worked a breathalyzer or any other device for detecting BAC, what is the lowest detectable amount for these devices? Is it .01 or even .005 or lower? A better idea, IMO, would be to ammend the current "no drinking" law to remove officer perception and make it illegal to carry if a person's BAC is at the lowest detectable level on the devices that LEOs use most often.

I carry a G30 with 10+1 of .45 ACP. When at work I carry an extra mag for the G21 with 13 rounds. When not at work I sometimes carry my spare G30 10 round mag.

I do security for a downtown hotel that has a lounge that serves. Since I'm responsible for the security of the hotel and I'm authorized by an agent of the owner, I'm good to go. Now if I go tho that hotel as a guest, the real question is can I just not carry in the lounge area or is it the entire hotel? There is no door/wall to enter just an open space connected to the lobby.

Yes, if you are asked to leave, you must or face the possibility of criminal trespass charges. That in no way stops a person from contacting corporate and making a complaint. Walmart will rectify the situation as long as open carry is legal in the state (and only 6 states forbid open carry). There are many recent cases detailed on OpenCarry.org about this happening around the country.

I think ConditionThree at Opencarry.org said it very well

Wish I saw others in Nashville open carrying. I feel all alone here in the State Capitol.

I'll be carrying my G30 the same way I carry it now, openly.

As I said previously, I don't have any experience with the G38. I can say that the G30 magazines don't "barely" hold 10. There may be other differences in the magazine construction that I was not able to uncover. Maybe someone with experience doing repairs on the magazines could offer some explanation to the difference in capacity. BTW, the G30 is considered a sub-compact and probably should be compared to the G39 (the .45GAP sub-compact), which incidentally only holds 6.

ZenDog, Fallguy, and anyone else I may have offended, I apologize for my less than tactful post. (Titans lose and I have to deal with drunk Ravens fans all night long. Its not an excuse, just a brief explination.) I lost my temper a bit and it was uncalled for. I accept your apology, ZenDog. Since I OC exclusively, I never enter anyplace that I notice any type of "no guns" signs, legal or not. They have proven that they don't want my partonage. Now, government buildings are another matter, I'm going to complain to any and every elected official I can. I'd love to see the day we can walk into the state capitol (or even federal) with our guns and speak to our legislators as they do in Virginia.

This will all depend on if you have already been hired by a company or if you want your Armed Guard license and then look for work. Some of the larger companies (Wakenhut for instance) do all their own training in house. They (generally) issue you a firearm and do all the paperwork. Even if you have the training already, they still will "re-train" you. Smaller companies, generally, don't have the resources or manpower to do the training in house. They may or may not issue you a firearm. Also, in my experience, armed guards are not in high demand in Middle Tennessee. Numerous factors play into this: Police officers being allowed to work as armed guards without a license, clients only having security for insurance breaks, or clients with corporate hoplophobia are among those I see most often. Armed guard pay (along with unarmed guard pay) is generally low. In my opinion, this is due to the high availability of police officers working as armed guards who can command pay of $18+/hour (which drives down the pay of the average guard). Who wants to pay some armed guard $16-17/hr when they can get a REAL cop for a bit more? FYI, Armed Security makes, on average, $21k/year. A Police officer will make about $38k.

I've chosen to ignore the insulting "mall ninja" crap. But I did make MY choice. I carry OPEN. Do me, and others who may wish to carry openly (in accordance with the law, btw), and take your condescending "concealed is concealed" religion and shove it.

I had to do a little searching since I have no hands on experience with the G38 (I do have a G30, though). G30 Dimensions (Sub-Compact) Length: 6.77" (172 mm) Width: 1.27" (32 mm) Barrel: 3.78" (96 mm) G38 Dimensions (Compact) Length: 6.85" (174 mm) Width: 1.18" (30 mm) Barrel: 4.02" (102 mm) That little bit of width probably accounts for the disparity. It is hard to imagine that less than 1/10 of an inch could account for 2 rounds, but that same 1/10 of an inch is what makes the G21 and G30 uncomfortable to fire for a number of people.

Informing a LEO that your carrying, at a traffic stop
Glock30Owner replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Just out of curiosity for our LEOs, I'm an licensed armed guard, do you want me to produce my Armed Guard License along with my HCP, or instead of, when I'm in uniform? -
An HCP is "merely a defense" to unlawful carrying of a handgun. As is carrying in your home or place of business without an HCP. If a defense is provided for in the law, then it is legal under those conditions.

I just scanned this while at work, and my initial impression is that unless the property owner banned weapons for defense on the property, then they should be liable, in my opinion. The incident that happened in this case is of a type that could have happened in any open place. Had this particular property been posted in accordance with Tennessee law, I would hope they would he held liable. Walmart's corporate policy, though, is to allow a person to carry in accordance with the state's laws. Incidents that I've heard about involving the expelling of a CC or OCer from a Walmart have generally resulted in the manager getting remedial training in the coporate policy. -
Never, ever, take yours or anyone else's impression when it comes to the law. If you have the wrong impression you could be on the wrong side of it. Glad that this time you weren't. I know that I always look up the relevant law and read it if I have concerns. If I can't understand the legalese (more common with Federal than TN state laws) I talk to a lawyer friend of mine. As for carry of a baton off-duty, why limit your options in self defense? From one "rent-a-cop" to another, be safe.

Transporting Handgun through Illinois.
Glock30Owner replied to wjh2657's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Wisconsin is an Open Carry state. "If you want to carry a gun in Wisconsin, wear it on your hip," said Gov. Jim Doyle as he patted his hip. http://content.clearchannel.com/cc-common/mlib/1176/01/1176_1201797811.pdf Now there is no state preemption in Wisconsin, so it would be wise to check for local bans on open carry. -
New Government in Tennessee

I tend to agree with Dave's opinion. Conversely, I think that places that don't want HCP holders to carry in their establishment should be automatically civilly (and possibly criminally) responsibe for the saftey of their patrons. I'd love to see laws that require any place open to the public (including goverment buildings/property) that don't allow firearms to provide lockboxes (at no cost) for the securing of firearms, armed guards at every entrance (I'm in an armed guard so more money for me ), and metal detection/screening at public entrances. At best this would allow us more places to carry, at worst we'd not have to lock out guns in our cars to be possibly stolen when we have little choice to patronize any particular establishment. Do I expect any of this to happen? Not in my lifetime, but I can still dream, can't I? -

I would wonder if they would be opposed to a change in wording like this: 39-17-1305. Possession of firearm where alcoholic beverages are served. — (a) It is an offense for a person to possess a CONCEALED firearm within the confines of a building open to the public where liquor, wine or other alcoholic beverages, as defined in § 57-3-101(a)(1)(A), or beer, as defined in § 57-6-102(1), are served for on premises consumption. ( A violation of this section is a Class A misdemeanor. (c) The provisions of subsection (a) shall not apply to a person who is: (1) In the actual discharge of official duties as a law enforcement officer, or is employed in the army, air force, navy, coast guard or marine service of the United States or any member of the Tennessee ational guard in the line of duty and pursuant to military regulations, or is in the actual discharge of duties as a correctional officer employed by a penal institution; or (2) On the person's own premises or premises under the person's control or who is the employee or agent of the owner of the premises with responsibility for protecting persons or property. Where I work, I get the exemption in (2). -
Do you conceal carry ?
Glock30Owner replied to Bloodbought1's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I carry my G30 with one in the chamber and in the open at all times. -
You do know that the certification to carry a baton is the same for security or civillian use, correct? Once you are certified, you can carry whenever you wish.

Academy of Personal Protection and Security does classes as well. Buford Tune (the main instructor) gives about double the state required time in class. -
What would go to trial in your County?
Glock30Owner replied to DaveTN's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
The Tennessee Firearms Association already does something similar already. They have had lawmakers, lawyers, and other speakers talk on all sorts of topics. http://www.tfaonline.org/ -
I can only comment on my personal experience with a 10mm S&W. I hated the thing. Tearing it down for routine after range cleaning was a nightmare. I prefer something that I don't have to fight and wrestle with to break down. I own a Glock 30 now, and love how easy it is to break down. I always ask to break down a firearm before considering buying it.
