  1. Demand for ID or verbal identification (in MI) without RAS that a crime was being commited, about to be commited, or had been commited. Police were called only because the store employees/management were unable to muster the courage to ask the customer (who had been there for hours) to leave (so there was no tresspassing). Unlike here in TN (where we must show our HCP upon demand when carrying), MI has unlicensed OC and there are no "stop and ID" laws.
  2. My answer to that question is, "NO!"
  3. Cooperation with unlawful demands?
  4. It is interesting to watch... but to your OP, I would, too, reccomend a good pepper spray. Either way, if may be advisable for her to get "training" in either the spray or the taser. It never hurts to have more knowledge.
  5. Razorback, I can understand your reluctance to OC in Nashville (due to unfamiliararity). I would probably feel the same if I when to Memphis. If you ever happen to come to Nashville and would like an OC partner to help you out with the pitfalls, give me a hollar. We can walk all over downtown Nashville and chat with various people (except the bums... why do they run when they see my gun on my hip??). We could even take a trip over to the Bicentenial Mall (State Park) where you have no chance of being legally arrested (I use the modifier as police can arrest anyone at anytime if they so choose for anything). Since I do OC in Nashville at all times (and have been for over a year) I can say that, in my experience, MNPD could care less if you are OCing and most people won't care either. Could a misinformed officer ruin your day? Sure, that can happen anywhere. Could someone call in a MWAG to 911? Sure, that can happen anywhere too.
  6. An OCDO member from MI had a very bad encounter at an Ikea store. Negative LEO/IKEA Encounter - Michigan - Stories From The States - OpenCarry.org - Discussion Forum Make your own judgements.
  7. In the opinion, the judge chastised the officers for acting as agents of the theater on their own accord. According to the documents, at no time were the officers asked to remove Mr. St. John. No evidence introduced indicates that the property was posted against the carry of firearms.
  8. If police can't stop to check if a driver is licensed (a privledge), why can they do the same to to someone carrying a firearm (a supposed right)? It just doesn't make sense to me...
  9. Nice article with link to the ruling. Federal judge rules police cannot detain people for openly carrying guns Those police are in deep doo doo without their immunity.
  10. I had a S&W 1006 that shot like a dream, but the thing I absolutely hated was the break down. Poke here, while twisting here, and pulling here, and slide just so far here... took me more time to break the damn thing down than it did to fire all the rounds that caused the need to clean.
  11. A question just out of curiosity (for our more legal minded). If a municipality has opted out, but has not posted the parks in accordance with state law, is carry by HCP holders prohibited?
  12. As a security guard and supervisor for my company, if any client asked me (or my other guards) to check people's HCPs, I would have to refuse. I would, ethically, be forced to make the client choose between allowing or disallowing carry.
  13. I didn't. I stated that I would provide my HCP to LE upon DEMAND, not request. There is a difference. Police Officers have a job that must be done, but they are not required to look out for our rights that we voluntarily give up (knowingly or unkowingly). That is our job.
  14. I ride the Nashville MTA when I have business to do in the downtown area (as it is much cheaper than parking). I also open carry at all times. I've never had any problems or comments from any driver about my firearm. Like most people I have encountered while open carrying in Nashville, they could care less as long as you aren't putting the gun in their faces trying to rob them.
  15. Not a matter of OC vs CC, to me. Rather a matter of a gun owner focusing on a method of carry rather than the real point of the OP, the oppurtunity to educate. Rather a matter of don't exersize your rights if they have a miniscule chance of adversely affecting me.
  16. Only partially, you are a coward, IMO, because you conceal carry and then attack someone for a LEGAL method of carry that sparked a positive educational experience for two people who lived in a place that doesn't recognise their fundamental right to self defense. Rather than say, "Good job, glad you could give people some information", you prefer to whine about some mythical possibility that a property owner may legally post their property and cause you some minor inconvienience in either disarming or shopping elsewhere.
  17. So, your basic response to a story about two Chicagoites becoming more educated is to attack TN Mike's chosen method of LEGAL carry because you are too cowardly to exersize your rights in the light and prefer to hide in the shadows like a criminal?
  18. Bicentennial Mall is a state park. It is legal to carry there. Open carry and "stick it" to the Metro Council.
  19. I tend to agree with the single exception of a company that has been given tax incentives. They should be forced to allow whatever the state deems until those incentives expire.
  20. If you won't stand up for what you believe in, you have already lost. I tend to think the majority here are just a bunch of pansy whiners with no real backbone. I prefer to live with a spine, even if it pisses people off.
  21. The "don't ask, don't tell" that (seemingly) most here are advocating is total and utter BS, IMO. I open carry only and I'm going to continue to ask and tell. I'll enter non-properly posted places and raise a big stink with management about improper signage. Until we start making real noise, we will always be marginalized. Other groups fighting for their civil rights weren't quiet, why should we be?
  22. In Tennessee, you must have an HCP to legally carry a handgun, period. It matters not whether the handgun is concealed or openly carried. Now, when I lived in Kentucky, I OC'd with out a license (it is legal there). Always know the laws of the state in which you wish to carry. Ignorance of the law, in this case, could end your butt up in prison and losing your right to carry.
  23. Would being a national historic landmark have any impact anything on the law?
  24. Though I highly doubt this poster will return, I'll comment on this. The law never prevented the owners, operators, or authorized employees from carrying a firearm in any place that serves alcohol.
