If you don't dig the grip on the Glocks, try an XD (I have both and like them for different reasons.)

The difference between the models you listed are caliber and size. The 19 is a 9mm. The 22 is a full sized .40 S&W. The 23 is a compact version of the 22. Buy a Gen 3 and save a few bucks. Tons of accessories for the Gen 3 can be had for discount prices now that Gen 4 is on the scene.

Unfortunately, the nearest public rifle range is 2 hours east of here (Natchez Trace State Park) and that's only a 100 yard range. MSSA is a private club on the northeast side of town. I've heard it's nice, but pricey.

I've been pulled over twice by local PD while armed with no issues. I keep my HCP right behind my DL so that when I pull the DL out to hand it over, they see the HCP very clearly. Both times they asked if I was armed, and asked where the weapon was located. I told them and that was the end of it. The traffic stop continued normally. I recommend you be as truthful and forthcoming as possible. As an officer approaching a stranger, I'd like to know that he/she takes the first opportunity to inform me of a weapon. Officers I've known don't really like surprises involving weapons.

I grew up around Memphis as the son of a gun dealer. I've been shooting most of my life, and am similarly frustrated by the lack of public ranges for carbine training. That said, when time allows, I'll trek over to Natchez Trace State Park (2 hour drive) for a public outdoor range. If you're ever up for a trip, we'll get our carbine fix together, along with anyone else willing to meet up. Welcome aboard!

If you want to hunt with an AR, you don't have to go up to an AR-10. You could go with an AR-15 in 6.8 SPC and get a dedicated .22 upper.
