    Hog Gun

I don't remember now. It's stainless. I shot it when I first got it and it didn't group as well as the 24". Then I tried lighter bullets and started improving it. I think the 90-95gr was producing some respectable groups but still not as good as the 123gr in the 24".

I intended on building a lighter weight 18"-ish barrel for a hunting Grendel upper. At the time, anything Grendel related was impossible to find and I grabbed a 24" heavy barrel whenit became available. I later did get an 18" medium weight upper but that 24" BHW barrel shoots so good I can't bring myself to get rid of it. The 18" I have doesn't like the heavier bullets as well so I end up losing some of my BC to get better groups.
  4. Saiga and Vepr both are long. I had a converted Saiga and still felt like it was too long for a home defense gun. I ended up putting it in a Kushnapup bullpup stock and now it's nice a compact.

    Hog Gun

The 6.5 Grendel has the ballistics of a 308 trajectory wise or better and fits on an AR15 platform. I have hit steel at 900 yards with it and it is an effective hunting round. Wolf and Hornady make ammo for it and if you keep searching you can find the Hornady for $1 per round.

I also have some M951 mil surplus lights. I haven't done any lamp upgrade though. They aren't my brightest light for sure, but they are Surefire military rugged. The price was hard to beat for the ability to have IR. I also picked up a M961 which is larger and is a 3 cell.   A 458 is the next caliber I would like to have!

    Hog Gun

I used to live in TX. Hogs travel in packs. If you are stand hunting a bolt action will do fine if you want to avoid carrying a second rifle. However, if you want to try to shoot more than one, get a semi auto. Or if you will be on the ground chasing them on foot. Sometimes the ones that aren't shot get pissed when their friend just got killed. If you are hunting for meat, a 223 will do fine on the smaller ones. If you are going for the biggest one you can find, get something that has tougher bullets available like a 7.62 (308, 300blk or 7.62x39) or 6.5 like a Grendel.   A 308 or 6.5 Grendel would both work good for deer too.
  8. I had a MSAR and just sold it. Have a Steyr A3 now. I put my converted Saiga into a Kushnapup stock. I had to modify the trigger linkage but it works great. I helped a buddy do a Bullpup unlimited 870 conversion too. I'm waiting for the Mossberg kit to come out. I do have a couple of friends with RFB's and KSG's but I never really was all that attracted to them.   I do have a SBR PS90, Tavors, Kushnapup, Steyr Aug A3. Hopefully one day I will have a Desert Tech SRS covert. Thier new semi auto bullpup is pretty cool too.
  9. I had a M38 as my first car when I turned 16. I loved that thing. Sounds like this one is in much better shape.   I've restored a couple of cars before. Military vehicles are easier because of their simplicity. The biggest problem if finding the correct military parts. Not all civilian parts were the same on the M38. There was a guy (if he is still alive) in Tracy City, TN that had a military junkyard. I got a few parts from him before.   If you can still read all the original markings, take pictures. Mine was barely visible in a cross light when I first got it. By the time I sold it, they were indistinguishable.    The steel soldiers site has a lot of great guys on there that could point you out to a good shop. I've been on there a lot when I was looking for things.
  10. I saw a guy picking up a bunch from the side of the tracks. He had equipment and not just stealing them it looked like. He was selling them for $1 per foot I think. Unfortunately I do not remember the name of his business.
  11. I browsed for a while and saw a couple of Tavor related threads. I like bullpups a lot and was wondering how many others have my same problem.

    Tavor time

In case everyone hasn't seen the 3rd hammer pack manufacturer out there, check out Shooting Sight. They were the first to start developing a Tavor trigger when bullpup owners asked for one. Timney and Geissele said no when Tavor owners asked for them. At least until they realized that bullpup owners actually do exist.   I have felt the Geissele and Shooting Sight hammer pack at SHOT. I preferred the Shooting Sight. I did not feel the Timney.
  13. Hello everyone.   I was born and raised in TN but spent about 8 years in TX working. Now I have my own part time business while working a full time job. Shooting has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. I started competitive shooting in the 3rd grade with BB guns and went up from there.    I'm looking forward to meeting some new friends on here. When I do find time to shoot these days I get together with my friends and set up on private property usually. We have been able to shoot as far as 1000 yards. Typically its 400-600 though.
