  1. Actually Bar-B-Qued goat is quite delicious.
  2. And Easter this weekend.
  3. Ok, I got an e-mail from TFA today about this new law and it pointed out a couple of restrictions, but not all. Under the new law a citizen can not carry in a park or greenway. Also, certain misdemeanors prohibit you from carry including stalking or DUI. Apparently there are more restrictions, that are not mentioned in the article. So does anybody have or can they work up a list of ALL the restrictions on permitless carry? I'm really curious about all this because I know several non-permited folks who want to carry, but lack info. Another question: There was a vague mention of carrying in schools. Can an enhanced permit holder carry in schools? I thought that was always prohibited?
  4. That's part of my question. Where can an enhanced permit holder carry that this law doesn't allow non-permitted citizens to go armed?
  5. The government has had a ton of info on me ever since I was 18 and joined the Army. Birthday, blood type, SSN, and who knows what they got when checking for my security clearances. I have a voter registration card, a carry permit and an IP address. Over the years the file just keeps growing. Personal privacy has been a myth since at least the 1960s. Now as Papa pointed out, can we please get back to the subject at hand? I'd like to get my question answered.
  6. Ok, forgive me, but as a long time permit holder I haven't really been following the details of all this. Exactly how does this bill differ from true Constitutional Carry and what are these restrictions I keep hearing about?
  7. Long term? I've still got my Daddy's Remington 11-48 that he bought used back in the early 1950s. He used it quite a bit and it was my hunting shotgun for many years until I finally quit hunting. I still shoot it now and then and it works just fine. Most any quality shotgun will outlast your lifetime will decent care. If I were you, I'd wait until a good Remington or Mossberg is available.
  8. People all over the world and on this board have been arguing back and forth about this virus for over a year now. Both sides have valid points, but are also just rehashing the same things over and over again. I. too, believe that there is some sort of conspiracy involved, perhaps many. But I still don't know what, why or who might be involved. Odds are that none of us will ever know for sure. I see no point in continuing to beat this poor, dead horse. The one thing that I do know is that on the advice of several of my personal doctors, whom I trust and have managed to keep my sorry butt alive much longer than I should have, I was a good puppy and got my shots. I will keep wearing a mask and I will keep social distancing. I truly believe we have a very long way to go yet. What you do or believe is entirely up to you.
  9. 42 years of listening to diesel engines has taken a toll on my hearing. My problem is that my hearing loss in in a fairly narrow range. Unfortunately that range is right where human speech falls. I can hear high or low sounds just fine. But can't understand what a person is saying right in front of me. Back in 2012, for the first time in my life, we got health insurance that would actually cover hearing aids and I got a set. At the time these were state of the art 8 channel models. Now days they go up to 16 channels, maybe more. Even with insurance paying more than half the cost, I had to pay $3000 on my end. But now being retired and on medicare, I have no coverage at all. My only option is to keep the ones I have working and with them getting old, they need fixing from time to time. Just spent $245 getting one of them fixed a few days ago. I can't afford to replace them because the ones I need would run around $8-10K. Another problem I have is background noise. By the time my Audiologist gets them adjusted to where I can hear and understand people talking, any background noise at all just drowns them right out. Restaurants are the absolute worst. Dishes clattering, people talking, etc. Several times on one of my all too rare dates, I've had to take them out because the background noise was so bad I couldn't understand a word the lady across the table was saying. Frankly, its gotten to the point that I only wear them when watching TV or go to a movie. At least then I can hear what the actors are saying and keep up with the story. The hearing aids sold at Costco, Sam's, on the internet or what have you only amplify all the sounds around you. Pretty much useless if you're like me. Same problem, just louder. If you have hearing problems, I strongly suggest you go see a good Audiological Doctor and see what they recommend.
  10. Its Memphis. Nothing those idiots do surprises me one bit. I doubt there are two active brain cells in the entire city council.
  11. I got the same e-mail. It goes on to caution the BATFE will fight the decision and has very deep pockets. So while this is good news, the battle is far from over.
  12. Back when my sons were young and I was a Boy Scout Leader (1988-2000) our troop did two special camping trips each year. One each to teach and earn the Rifle and Shotgun Merit badges. We started weeks before with classroom work at the regular weekly Troop Meetings and finished with a weekend of live fire. I taught the classroom part several times. Even 20 years ago I had to spend a good portion of the class dispelling anti-gun propaganda that had been taught to them. The course wasn't just safety and function, but also included the 2nd Amendment and history of firearms. The boys were eager to learn and every one earned their Merit Badges. These two camping trips were the biggest of the year as many fathers and even mothers on occasion wanted in on the fun.
  13. They have said that the guy felt he was the victim of anti-Islamic prejudice. So it is likely that he targeted white people. But he's also been described as being extremely paranoid and had a bad temper. I think its just another case of a complete nut job who finally snapped.
  14. You might also notice that the antis have shifted gears and now "Assault Rifles" is the hot topic.
  15. Has anybody noticed how quiet the news is about the shooter's gun? They know he bought it 6 days before the shooting. But they haven't said a word about where or if the purchase was legal. With the Atlanta shooting they had that info out fairly quickly. I'm guessing it was a legal purchase, but that doesn't fit with the current desire the Dems have for universal background checks. So MSM ain't reporting it.
  16. Go buy a lottery ticket. This your lucky day! Was that the one in Wolfchase? I dropped by there a couple of days ago. . They had nuthin'.
  17. You have to admit that the last year has been very stressful on a lot of people. Some folks just can't handle it. Murder rates are way up all over the country. Suicides as well. This pandemic has killed a lot more people than the disease alone.
  18. The Yankees don't come to Memphis because they're too scared of the place. The only yankees that move there are wanted for crimes in places like New York, Chicago and Detroit. Honestly, once you get out of the Memphis city limits proper, the surrounding smaller towns are nice, quiet places to live.
  19. Ya gotta admit that two shootings in two weeks is a bit suspicious. Star Trek addressed your concerns a long time ago. No matter what you think of the shows, they were very philosophical at times.
  20. This hadn't occurred to me until I saw this meme. Now I really feel old.
  21. Not sure about that part of the state, but here in the west end, real estate has gone nuts. Asking prices are just a starting point. Buyers are ending up in bidding wars and final prices are 10-20 thousand over what they started at. My younger son and his bride tried for a long time to buy a house. They kept getting outbid. They finally gave up and had one built. That may be your best bet. Buy a piece of property and build on it.
  22. Hint: Bruce Campbell.
