  1. On Inside Edition today they ran a video of Miss Reed's lawyer making a statement. He said that she was NOT on the set when the shooting occurred. She was in fact elsewhere doing other duties for her other job as a prop assistant. He also stated that there were no rehearsals scheduled for that time. Make what you will of that.
  2. What I want to see is for Springfield to do a lightweight Detective Model. I'd buy that at twice the price. But if the SA-35 is half as successful as I think its gonna be, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Springfield make versions nobody ever dreamed of before.
  3. I dearly love the .44 Special. Honestly, I never really cared for the .44 magnum. Too much buck and roar for my tastes. Quavodus makes a very good point. The .45 Colt is an outstanding round as well. Most people don't realize that a standard velocity 250gr .45 Colt bullet will go completely through your average whitetail. There's no need to hot rod this fine old round.
  4. I checked with the largest LGS in the area again this morning. Still don't have any, no idea when they'll get some, But also not making a waiting list either. However, they do have 30 ordered. So maybe I'll get one eventually. In other news, tracking showed my magazines arrived at Fed Ex Memphis last Saturday, Scheduled delivery was supposed to be yesterday. No joy. Today tracking shows it still at the distribution center, but delivery date as undetermined. WTF!
  5. Since I used to work on Police cars, I can attest to the fact that blue lights do indeed have a Hi & LO setting. It seems that some officers don't understand this or how to use them accordingly. I, too, have been blinded by blue lights at night. I can see where that could be used as a reasonable defense.
  6. A lot of people screwed up. There was a lot of screwed up stuff on the entire production. From what's come out it seems obvious that most of these screw ups were the outcome of trying to save a buck and just plain being cheap. As a producer, Baldwin is ultimately responsible for everything wrong on that set. Its his own fault if he wasn't properly trained to handle a firearm. But I still maintain, Baldwin and only Baldwin is responsible for pulling that trigger. Its his bullet.
  7. Mine shoots just about like any other G.I. issue 1911. Completely reliable, but accuracy is nothing to brag about. It is combat accurate at reasonable self defense distances. You can hit a man sized target at 25 yards. That's all that was ever expected of it.
  8. It all about chamber depth and throat location. The .44 magnum and .357 magnum were purposely made long so that they would would be stopped at the chamber throat and not seat fully resulting in the cylinder not being able to close. This all about safety. The chamber could have the shoulders of the throat reamed a bit allowing the magnum cartridge to fully seat, however the shorter over all length of the cylinder could cause the nose of the bullet to slightly protrude out the front of the cylinder.
  9. Can't say for absolute sure, but I think the cylinders may be heat treated differently. The .44 Special cylinder may be too short for the Magnum cartridge. Isn't that a 5 shooter? The frame may not be up to the stress. There's a reason Taurus didn't just make that gun a .44 magnum to start with. I wouldn't try it.
  10. I have a 1970 Series 70 Gold Cup and a 1996 Series 80 Gold Cup. There is no comparison between the two. The older gun will shoot rings around the newer one. The older guns were built as real target pistols. The newer ones are little more than a Government Model with adjustable sights and a pretty finish. Don't get me wrong. The newer gun is very nice and an excellent shooter. But I did end up replacing the trigger and barrel bushing in mine. Other difference are that the Series 70 GC has a wider trigger which make the trigger pull feel better and lighter. BTW: a standard 1911 trigger will not fit. So if you want to replace it you must get one specifically for the GC. I'm happy with the original. Another difference in the Series 70 is a little spring gizmo in the sear called the depressor that prevents sear bounce. Be very aware of the sear gizmo if you should ever try to take it apart. Little pieces tend to fly and is a real PITA to put back together. edit to add: Bear in mind that the Gold Cup is intended for target shooting and generally set up for light target loads. While it will work just fine with hardball and defensive ammo, there are other guns better suited for that task. If you just want an adjustable sighted 1911, I suggest you take a look at the Springfield Range Officer. Excellent pistol and reasonably priced.
  11. He's a liberal, a gun hater and a movie star. Most everybody and MSM feels sorry for him. The only outrage is coming from people like us who know guns.
  12. Never underestimate a child. Nothing can be hidden from them or put out of reach. They will find a way.
  13. I also suggest starting with local PD. If that don't work, contact ATF.
  14. That's my big question and its never been answered. I heard the other day that she was actually doing two jobs. Armorer and a regular prop person. Again we're back to the cost cutting thing. which seems to be the root of all of this. Bottom line is that Baldwin pulled the trigger. That bullet is on him.
  15. I have an old Hopkins & Allen 12 gauge single shot. Best guess is it was made around the 1930s (?). It was used for many years with old corrosive ammo and rarely cleaned. The bore pretty much resembles the surface of the moon. But it belonged to my Grandpa, so I keep it.
  16. The Sheriff and DA certainly aren't ruling out criminal charges. The way I see it, Baldwin should be charged with Involuntary manslaughter/ negligent homicide and the assistant director charged with criminal negligence. Still too many questions unanswered about the armorer to figure her role in all this. But I figure she'll probably get charged with something. But, I'm no lawyer and none of us are privy to the actual facts. But it does seem that the local authorities are drawing this out longer than necessary. The movie industry being big money in New Mexico probably has a lot to do with that. All we can do is wait and see.
  17. I don't have a problem with gay people. I've know both gay men and women in my time and frankly its never been a problem What does bother me is these non-binary azzholes who want to make a big deal out of of it and expect special treatment or consideration for it. Being different does NOT make you special. If you aren't sure, take a quick peak in your pants, mark the appropriate box and STFU.
  18. We have a wide range of people on this site. Sometimes I'm surprised at the specialized knowledge that comes out in a post. So I was wondering, what do you do/did for a living? What is/was your job? I'm retired now, but I was a mechanic for 42 years. My specialty was trucks and equipment. I've worked on everything from weed eaters to heavy earth movers. Pick ups, tractor trailers, fire trucks and even garbage trucks. I can cut, weld and work metal and have fabricated a number of special projects in my time. I can fix anything from the break of day to a broken heart. I spent the last 25 years of my career working for the small city I live in and finally retired from there in 2014. So what do you do?
  19. I got vaccinated back in March. According to the 8 month recommendation, I'm due for a booster next month. I also have a regular checkup with my Pulmonologist next month. I'll ask him. But I'm pretty sure he'll say yes.
  20. The MSRP on the SA-35 is $699. Which I find to be surprisingly good. The prices I quoted are what's being asked on GB. I wouldn't be surprised if they sell. In fact, some those over $1000 prices are being driven by actual bids. There are always those people who just have to be the first to get whatever is new at any price.
  21. Yeah, very good idea on the mags. I ordered a couple. I checked Mec-Gar and they are out of stock. I guess Springfield is buying up the current supply. Even though it may be a year or more before I find a gun to buy, I can use these in my other Hi-Powers. All the ones I have are 13 rounders anyway.
  22. There's about 8 of them on GB right now. The lowest is at $910 and the highest at $1399. I think I'll just wait.
  23. In my experience I've found that Colt collectors aren't hurting for money and are more than willing to spend it on what they want.
  24. I've already checked with my LGS and they don't have any or know when they will. No luck on-line either. There are two gun shows near me next month. I'll look, but don't have high hopes. My guess is they won't be readily available for several months. But I will buy the first one I find.
  25. Well I guess I'll have to buy a new phone. I actually have no idea how many Gs my phone is, but its old. Mine actually gives a message "Phone Storage Is Low". My son looked at it and best he can figure is that the phone is so old that all the updates it automatically does has taken up most of the memory. Yeah, I'm technologically challenged.
