  1. Even if the sear did slip, the half cock notch should have caught the hammer if the trigger was at rest. That notch is much bigger than the sear and designed to stop the hammer fall unless the trigger is pulled. I, too, would very much like to have a competent gunsmith examine the gun and see what his report is.
  2. Contact local city/county building inspectors. Have them take a look. They'll tell you if it meets code or not. Then go from there.
  3. On a SA revolver, especially a Colt copy, there is no safety. The gun can fire if dropped or other hard strike to the back of the hammer. This is why there has always been the practice of carrying them with only 5 rounds and the hammer resting on an empty chamber. However, there has never been any claim of the gun falling or being hit. AFAIK only Ruger uses a transfer bar action. Baldwin was using a Pietta SA which is an exact copy of the Colt Single Action Army. The hammer has to be partially cocked to load or unload. This is the purpose of the half cock notch in the hammer. By setting the hammer in the half cock position, the cylinder is free to spin. The half cock engages with very little backward motion of the hammer. Maybe a 1/4 inch or so. if the hammer should slip before half cock, it shouldn't have enough power to fire a cartridge. If the hammer should slip at some point beyond half cock, the half cock notch should catch it if the trigger is at rest. But not if the trigger is pulled. There is a method called slip firing where the gun is fired by holding the trigger back, cocking the hammer and just letting the thumb slip off. Its been a while since I've owned a SA revolver. I don't think a hammer fall before half cock could set off a primer, but I can't absolutely swear to it. Any current Colt style SA owners care to offer their opinion? I didn't watch the interview. Did Baldwin say if his thumb slipped off the hammer at any time? I don't recall him saying so in the past. But again, it doesn't excuse him from not checking the gun himself.
  4. Anybody with even a basic understanding of single action revolvers knows that there are only a couple of ways Baldwin didn't pull the trigger on purpose. First is the gun is defective and the hammer either didn't lock or slipped the sear. Second would be if Baldwin already had the trigger pulled back with his finger on it but didn't realize it when he cocked the gun. Thereby slip firing the gun when he released the hammer. If his thumb had slipped while cocking, the half cock/loading notch should have caught the hammer. But no matter how it happened, the gun had to be manually cocked intentionally. And none of this excuses Baldwin of not checking the gun to begin with. Baldwin is trying hard to play the victim here. That ain't gonna fly.
  5. Sounds good. But as usual, I'm at the wrong end of the state.
  6. I spent 42 years turning wrenches. Mostly on trucks and heavy equipment. Its hard, dirty, physically demanding work. I'm well aware of the physical toll it takes on your body. I'm a bit of a rarity in my profession. I retired with my back in decent shape and all my fingers. Of course the rest of me is a wreck. I've lost count of how many times I've been in the hospital. Been cut on 8 times. Twice is was life threatening. But all in all, I came through it pretty well. Just don't get around as well as I used to. Damn! Ain't we a bunch of decrepit old farts!
  7. An oldie, but a goodie.
  8. The question that I keep wondering about is that when this is all over, will Baldwin go back and finish the movie? Hate to say it but with all this publicity people will flock to go see it just out of curiosity. Pretty much a guaranteed money maker.
  9. Nope. My sons learned gun safety from an early age. I also taught them that guns aren't used to settle arguments and a bit of common sense. They are now 36 & 42 and both keep a loaded firearm in their home for self defense. It would seem that modern parents don't teach their kids anything about dealing with the real world. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say I'm thinking this is another case of a snowflake that got bullied, couldn't deal with it and cracked mentally.
  10. I went to the link and watched the pre-view. Baldwin is definitely playing innocent victim here. I doubt he's looking for truth. He's playing for sympathy. I won't waste my time. Y'all tell me how it comes out. I saw another article that said the live ammo came from the guy who supplied the guns. They're still working on that.
  11. Very sad to hear. My sympathy to the victims. 15 year old with a handgun in a very restrictive state. No doubt they'll blame the gun.
  12. What's in the bag?
  13. Yeah. Trial by internet. That's what I was afraid of. Gettin' popular these days.
  14. I'm impatiently waiting for Grandkids just so I can make these kind of memories.
  15. Hey, its 2021. Not your place to judge.
  16. I think that we live in a world with too much information. The problem is that much of it is incorrect information, intentional misinformation, or flat out lies. Unfortunately, many of the brain dead (as you rightfully call them) can't figure out which is which. After all, if its on the internet it must be true.
  17. I read in one of the articles somewhere that after spinning Carruth off the porch that Read started to move toward him. The video doesn't show Read at this point. But if true, it could make a world of difference. IDK man. its Texas and the laws there are different. On the surface it looks like a bad shoot. Lots of info here that we aren't privy too. What bothers me is that the media is making a big thing about Carruth being well off, a politically connected republican and his judge ex-wife. Seems like this is another case that'll be tried in the court of public opinion.
  18. Got my booster about a week ago. Information is still scarce, but it seems this new Omicron variant is seriously spooking the powers that be. I have a real bad feeling that Covid is nowhere near over.
  19. I saw on the news a little while ago that the Orpheum Theater in Memphis has canceled the live stage musical of The Lion King. It was supposed to run for a week. They got in the first show, but then cast and crew members tested positive for Covid. Not sure, but I think the whole tour is now canceled. Lots of disappointed theater fans. Tickets for this are pretty expensive. Many didn't know the show was canceled until they showed up at the theater. I'm not much for live theater myself. But this was a big deal in Memphis. They've been advertising it for weeks. Its a major social event here.
  20. This happened two weeks ago. I went looking for updates. It appears no charges have been filed. OH CRAP! Its gone viral. Here's where its gonna get real messy. https://celebsaga.com/kyle-carruth-shooting-lubbock-justice-for-chad/
  21. Dead guy is obviously a belligerent attacker. He's physically bigger and continued his attack even after a weapon was presented. However, he's unarmed and never physically assaults the shooter. Just yelling and shoving. Shooter is assaulted in his own home by a trespasser who refused to leave when told to. He introduced the weapon into the situation. Stand your ground law? Child custody and visitation issues can often be very volatile. Was dead guy supposed to be there at that time? IDK. Looks like a bad shoot to me. Drugs, alcohol involved? History? Could go either way. Depends a lot on info we don't have. This one is gonna get ugly.
  22. I like it!
  23. I had a long drawn out response to this, but thought better than to post it. You make valid points and have good ideas. While we have the best system of government there is, that system is broken beyond repair. Our government is corrupt from top to bottom. To them its all about political gamesmanship, money and power. We, the people, no longer matter.
