  1. Auction Fever is a terrible disease. Burns any common sense right outta your head.
  2. I've known I had to have one of these from the first moment I heard of them. Been looking hard for over year and nobody has had any one in my area. This morning I called all the LGSs and still no luck. A couple of days ago Chucktshoes that he had seen one at Cypress Creek Outdoors in Dyersburg. So just on a whim I called to see if it was still there. It WAS! With nothing better to do on a Saturday afternoon, I jumped in my truck and headed North. I'm now the proud owner of a brand spankin' new Springfield Armory SA-35! BTW: price was MSRP at $699. Not being a fan of heavily checkered grips, I put a nice set of smooth Houge Pau Ferros on it. Looks great! I hope to get it to the range next week. Range report to follow. And here's an updated family portrait. Thanks Chuck! BTW: that's a very nice store. Everything an outdoorsman might need. Very friendly people too. Had a nice chat with the saleslady while I was there. If you're in the area, check it out.
  3. An honest citizen set up by the very people who are supposed to protect us. . Such a travesty of justice that resulted in unnecessary death at the hands of our own government. Is it any wonder the people don't trust .gov? RIP Randy.
  4. Many people consider the Colt Series 70 to be the peak of the 1911. Excellent quality, beautiful finish and great shooters. They are very desirable. The trigger might have been replaced. The MSH was definitely replaced as these came with an arched housing. The big question is does it have the collet type barrel bushing? The 70 Series Government Model should have one. If you're unfamiliar with them, this type bushing has slots cut in it and grips the barrel a bit snugger via spring type action. It greatly improves accuracy, but can be troublesome. If one of the ears breaks off, it can tie up the gun and is a major PITA to get the slide off to repair. Usually requiring a lot of cussing and a big hammer. However, the problem isn't near as common as the internet would have you think. A properly fitted collet bushing will improve accuracy and last forever. The issue seems to result from poorly fitted bushings at the factory. Some people choose not to take chances and simply replace the bushing with a solid one. My own Series 70 GM and GC both still have the original collet bushings in them and shoot great! Colt prices are all over the map these days. Original Series 70 guns are especially wild. Best guess, $1200 -1500. But could be as high as $2000. What's the asking price?
  5. This is why I don't do social media.
  6. Last I heard the only one available was the .45-70. Have the expanded the line?
  7. KahrMan that's an outstanding find! Congratulations!
  8. When my wife was still with us, she didn't care. As long as the bills got paid, there was food on the table and the kids didn't have to do without, she never said a word if I bought something I wanted. It worked the same for her. I didn't really care much about what she bought because I knew she would be responsible about it. Sadly, in our "woke" world, women have become bullies and men have become wimps. But worse is the man who chickens out and blames his wife. He has no respect for her or himself.
  9. Way back about 1972 or 73, I saw him perform at Randy's Rodeo in San Antonio. That place was one Hell of a Honky Tonk and it was one Hell of a show.
  10. The beach is fine for a day or two. By then I've had my fill and am ready to go home. Swimming is a survival skill. Everybody should know how. But its not something you do for fun.
  11. I think more than likely that the customers made the choice. Its all about what would sell. I never liked a bolt action shotgun, but I kinda want a lever action Winchester 1887 shotgun just for the cool factor. However, a pump shotgun is probably a little faster. Likewise, I've never been fond of pump rifles. But I do own a Rossi 62A pump .22. That thing, a set of spinners and a few boxes of ammo make for a fun day.
  12. Wow! That's an oldie for sure. Does it still work? Give us the details. Interesting truck. What is it? And we need more pictures.
  13. I'm thinking that 2nd thing is a cartridge for that flare/gas gun next to it.
  14. You know, we're partly to blame for kids who don't want or know how to work. Most of my/our generation grew up having to work hard and earn what we got. So when we had kids, we didn't want them to have to go through that. In turn, we made it easy for them. Unfortunately, many parents went too far. They spoiled their kids plumb rotten. Gave them everything they wanted and asked nothing in return. These are the problem workers we have today. And now the liberals have convinced many young people that they are underpaid. So their attitude is "I don't get paid enough to care." They do just enough to get by and nothing more. Don't feel like working today? No problem, just call in. Some don't even bother to do that. They have no work ethic at all because it was never taught to them. I admit, I spoiled my sons to some extent. But they were also required to do chores around the house and save for that special thing they may have wanted. They also understood that I worked hard to provide for them. I'm proud to say they both grew up to be fine men.
  15. May the 4th be with you!
  16. Had my left knee done back around 1994. No big deal. They did it Arthroscopic. Just a couple of very small cuts. Crutches for a couple of weeks, a cane for a couple of more, then a knee brace for about a month or two. Was off work maybe 6 weeks. haven't had any problems out of it since. The worst part was being stuck in the house for about a month.
  17. A father used to say to his children when they were young: —When you all reach the age of 12 I will tell you the secret of life. One day when the oldest turned 12, he anxiously asked his father what was the secret of life. The father replied that he was going to tell him, but that he should not reveal it to his brothers. —The secret of life is this: The cow does not give milk. "What are you saying?" Asked the boy incredulously. —As you hear it, son: The cow does not give milk, you have to milk it. You have to get up at 4 in the morning, go to the field, walk through the corral full of manure, tie the tail, hobble the legs of the cow, sit on the stool, place the bucket and do the work yourself. That is the secret of life, the cow does not give milk. You milk her or you don't get milk. There is this generation that thinks that cows GIVE milk. That things are automatic and free: their mentality is that if "I wish, I ask..... I obtain." "They have been accustomed to get whatever they want the easy way...But no, life is not a matter of wishing, asking and obtaining. The things that one receives are the effort of what one does. Happiness is the result of effort. Lack of effort creates frustration." So, share with your children from a young age the secret of life, so they don't grow up with the mentality that the government, their parents, or their cute little faces is going to give them everything they need in life. Remember "Cows don't give milk; you have to work for it."
  18. Its a straight pull design. Nothing new about that, but it does have a unique look to it. Has some good features, but success is likely going to come down to cost. I checked several on-line reviews and the only price I could find was 1500 Euros. That converts to $1578. Nope, too rich for my blood.
  19. Well if we;re gonna show off...... L to R Browning 1886 .45/70 Winchester 94 .30-30 Winchester 9422 .22LR Winchester 94 Trapper .45 Colt Winchester 94 Trapper .44 magnum Rossi 92 Trapper .357 magnum.
  20. Depends on the city the park is in. In my town you can't carry in a park if there is a school activity present. The problem is that just how do you know if all those kids are on a school outing or not?
  21. Such a shame. The man was an icon for the 2nd Amendment. Every gun owner should read "Unintended Consequences". Great book. The story is intermixed with actual significant moments in 2A history and helps explain how we got to where we are now.

    Carry History

Back in the early 90s, I carried a 3914 (blue) for a few years. Great gun, excellent shooter and easy to carry. I don't care for bobbed hammers, so I put a 5906 hammer in it. Worked like a charm. But when state wide CCW went into effect, I put it in the safe and pulled out my Colt Commander .45 and never looked back. Foolishly sold it during the Y2K scare for a healthy profit. Really wish I had kept it. That's one gun I seriously regret selling.
