  1. I didn't see it mentioned anywhere, but there are already complaints about the new plates. It seems that the traffic cameras and license plate readers don't like the white on blue design and are having trouble reading them. I think that is a good thing.
  2. If one of my sons wants it, he's welcome to it. But neither has expressed any desire. The both know guns and can shoot, but they never got into them like I have. Like I said, its a cheap off brand model and ain't worth much. I think the best thing is for them to do is surrender it and avoid the hassle.
  3. A terrible tragedy. But it also brings up a lot of questions. What brought on the attack? Were the dogs known to be aggressive? Were they trained to attack or fight? Were they possessive of food, toys ,ect? I know pit bulls get s lot of bad publicity. I honestly don't know if its deserved or not. But when household pets suddenly turn on children, there must be a reason. But regardless of the reason, I so no other choice but to put the dogs down. edit: I looked the story up on-line and found this: "The dogs were confiscated by Memphis Animal Services and euthanized Thursday afternoon."
  4. Cherish him while you can.
  5. Yeah, really! its on the TV, the radio and my spam folder is full of it! Enough already!
  6. The plan that always bothers me is the city dweller who buys a small, isolated cabin in the woods somewhere with plans to bug out to there if the S ever does HTF. Odds are that by the time they get there, they'll find the place already occupied by people who have no intention of giving it up. Either that or the place will already have been robbed of everything. If you want that survival cabin deep in the woods, you need to make it your permanent home. As for myself, I'm old and not in the best of condition. I'll put up a fight and last as long as I can. But I realize that my odds of being a long term survivor ain't very good.
  7. I only own one .22 cal suppressor. But a couple of years ago I did get to thinking about what to do with it when I pass. You only have 2 options. You can file the paperwork and have them transferred to you. Then you can legally sell them. IIRC there is no charge to do this as they are inherited. But check that just to be sure. Or, you can surrender them to ATF. In my case, mine is a cheap .22 suppressor and not worth much. It just ain't worth the hassle of going through all the paperwork. I've instructed my sons to simply surrender it. I also discovered that there is very little market for used suppressors. Even in like new condition, they don't bring much. You may want to research the value of those used suppressors and see what they're worth. Then decide if its worth the time and trouble. I found this article: https://www.silencershop.com/blog/post/sell-silencer BTW: tell your friend to get those suppressors back right NOW! Otherwise they may both end up in jail for a long time! The friend of your friend is breaking the law by simply having them in his possession.
  8. Sad indeed. Been listening to that Lady since I was just a kid.
  9. Been a while since I was last there, but Ft. Pillow has, or at least had, One hike in camp site. No road, you gotta backpack it About 2.5-3 miles IIRC. Almost nobody uses it. I've never seen anyone camp there. Nice campsite. Near the river if you don't mind the sound of tow boats at night. It does have a fire pit and an outhouse.
  10. Open the pictures in paint and resize until they fit the screen. Generally I have to go down 75%. I do it all the time.
  11. Legion, thanks for the tip. I'll have to give Ty's a try. I used to love Fat Larry's in Bartlett. The ribs were awesome! But, like i said, the owner died a couple of years ago and the last time I went it was still pretty good, but just not as good as it used to be. For just a simple old sandwich, I think Tops is the best in town.
  12. MPD has been a mess for many years and it just keeps getting worse. Everyone knows, or at least believes, that the new Police Chief Cerelyn Davis was hired not for her qualifications, but simply because she was the politically correct choice. So far she hasn't impressed me or anyone I know at all. The rape kit problem has been well known for at least 10 years. The Eliza Fletcher case brought it to the front once again. But I did notice that getting her kit tested was bumped to the front of the line due to the publicity. But what about the victims who have been waiting years for justice? The other day Gov. Lee announced that 25 more lab techs will be hired for the State lab. But hiring and training new people will take time and the backlog is years long. Plus all these new people will need lab space to work and equipment. Don't expect anything to change anytime soon.
  13. Sadly the owner of my favorite BBQ joint passed. It just hasn't been the same since. I will tell you to skip Rendezvous and Corky's. Overpriced tourist traps. You can get better food cheaper elsewhere.
  14. Just to add: I got a response from my County Commissioner. He apologized for the situation and said they're trying to oust Halbert, but fell one vote short. However, they now have several new members and just might pull it off in the coming sessions. There are efforts in Nashville going on to pass a new law which would make recalls easier. That does't help much right now though. But at least I'm done with it. BTW: yesterday I went to Academy Sports and spent $8 on a small folding camp stool. It was money well spent. Quite a few other folks brought folding chairs as well.
  15. Liberals are starting to realize that the world is not all the peaches and cream they want it to be. But then, many are also believers in its ok for me, but not for you. I wouldn't count them as true converts just yet.
  16. Plans changed, so went to get title and tag this morning. I went to the Austin Peay office. It opens at 8:30 am. I got there at 7:25 and there were only about 50 people in line ahead of me. I got done and left just before 10:00 am. So roughly 2 !/2 hours. Not bad for Shelby County. This office is near one end of a fairly large strip mall. When I left, the line went all the way to the end of the building. Probably 150 people or more. Now to see my insurance agent and get this car on the road.
  17. The actress is Yvonne Craig aka Batgirl (1960s) I believe the gun is a Beretta Model 1934. No idea what the movie/show is?
  18. Austin Peay was the second location I tried. The line was all the way down the building. I'll try that one and get there early on Thursday.
  19. Welp. I went down to the County clerks office this morning to get tags and title. I got there 40 minutes before they opened. The line was already past the building, across the road and well into the next building. At least 200-300 people. I just turned around and went home. Around 11:00 am I hoped the crowd had cleared a bit. This time I went to a different office location. Nope, their line was still about 100 people outside the door. The end of the month is always busy because so many idiots wait until the last second to renew plates that will expire within a few days. Being closed last week only made matters worse. I'm busy the next couple of days. Gonna try again Thursday. But I'm really not hopeful. Oh well, I still have my old truck to drive. Used vehicles always need a few repairs. I got plenty of time to take care of them. With luck I may get the new car on the road around the middle of next month. BTW: I sent a rather nasty e-mail to my County Commissioner. I urge all Shelby County residents to do the same.
  20. Ok, just showin' off.
