Depends on the size of the generator. Some of these things run huge engines designed for heavy trucks and earth moving equipment. When I was working for the city, one of my responsibilities was taking care of the many emergency generators located at various places around the city. The larger ones that could run something like a water treatment plant had fuel tanks that held 5000 gallons or more. Also bear in mind that unlike vehicles, generators have a fixed throttle setting. From the time it starts until it shuts down, that engine is running at about 98% full throttle. And they run 24/7 as long as they are needed. Big sets can burn a lot of fuel in a hurry.

This is how to teach the next generation of shooters.

I guess I just got lucky. No outages or rolling blackouts here. Although I have heard of them in the surrounding areas. No idea why my neighborhood has been spared. But I ain't complaining.

This was the "tacti-cool" of the 1930s. The Colt New Service is a big gun to start with. Chopping it down made this big bore blaster a bit more concealable and user friendly. However, it never became more than a specialized niche gun with a limited following. I noticed that rather unusual cut to the bottom of the frame just ahead of the trigger. Most copy cats didn't do that. This just may indicate that this is in fact an original Colt Fitz Special. Its certainly worth contacting Colt and asking.

Knoxville Rural King Employee Killed by Shoplifter
Grayfox54 replied to Garufa's topic in General Chat
I've been following this thread and honestly, I just don't know what to say. It seems that human life has no value anymore. Taking a life over petty theft? What does that say about us as a society? In this case, I hope all those terrible stories you hear about what happens to young, pretty boys in prison are true. -
I'm getting old, not in the best of health, live alone and now its winter on top of that. But still I only check in on this site maybe 10-12 times a day.

We ended up with just enough snow to cover the ground, but not really measurable. Legion's picture pretty much shows it. But its also just the kind of stuff to crust over into a nice sheet of ice. Be careful out there. I was born and raised in the Memphis area. As a kid I remember getting measurable amounts of snow pretty much every year. Usually about 6" or more. I also remember snow hanging around for several days, even a week. I remember the weekend before Christmas of 1963. I was 9 years old. We were at my Grandparent's farm near Quito for the yearly Christmas family gathering and got hit with 13" of snow. What would usually have been about a 45 minute drive home took 3 hours! I also remember many miserable, cold, snowy days and being out in the streets when I was working for the City. Yep, I really like global warming and climate change. I much prefer my snow to just be memories.

I have one of those home weather stations that reads the outdoor temperature. The sensor is located on my back porch. So it tends to read a couple of degrees higher than the actual temp. I've been watching it this afternoon. At 4:00 pm when the front came through it read 51 degrees. Now at 6:30pm its reading 24 and still dropping. We have snow. Its real small, icy type of flurries, but its coming down fast and hard. Streets and ground are starting to get covered. Its days like this that make me really glad I'm retired. When I was still working, the worse the weather, the more likely I'd have to be out in it.

Here in the West End we've been having temps in the mid-50s to low 60s for a couple of weeks now. Not bad at all. Local forecast says that Arctic Air Mess is due to arrive about 4:00 pm. Some light snow expected with temps dropping like a rock. Low tonight forecast at 5 degrees with a high tomorrow of 17. Not expected to be above freezing until at least Monday. Just so happened that I needed to stop by Kroger for a couple of small items this morning. The place was absolutely packed! People stocking up in full panic mode. So it begins. Winter in the South.

Over the years I have repaired a number of firearms for friends, relatives, co-workers, etc. I make it a point to NEVER charge for my labor. I ask only to be reimbursed for what I spend on parts and materials. I do this as a hobby and because I enjoy it. I don't want to give ATF any grounds to suggest I do this for profit and thus illegally. However, trading for moonshine, pot, or hookers just might be workable.

Necessary steps when selling a firearm
Grayfox54 replied to MisterDanP's topic in Feedback and Support
I'm of the opposite opinion. I always use a BOS. These days its a good idea to be able to account for where a firearm came from and where it went. The BOS goes into my records and will never be seen by anyone else unless questions arise. And while that's not very likely, I have it JIC. -
Revolver - one speed strip in my pants pocket. Semi-auto - at least one, often two magazines. A double mag pouch doesn't take up much more space than a single. So why not two?

Just wait. ATF still hasn't made their latest ruling and several pro-gun groups are standing ready to file suits as soon as they do. It could still be years before this is settled. Why spend money and voluntarily put yourself on a government list?

I consider myself a fairly talented hobbyist. Like the OP I've read, studied and spent a small fortune on tools and special equipment to tinker with my own guns. I'm pretty good at what I know. But I, in no way, consider my self a gunsmith. Just about anybody can put a working gun together from parts. Some can do an exceptional job and make a very accurate custom gun. But can you make a spring for a 100 year old hammer double barrel? Fit a trap gun to its owner? Diagnose and repair any gun that may come through the door regardless of make, model or age? That's what real gunsmiths do every day. Its an art form that takes many years to master. Many years ago I asked a real gunsmith how to get into the trade. He said "Hang out your shingle and be prepared to pay for your mistakes."

I saw this on another forum and thought it might be fun to try here. Fair warning: on that other forum the discussion is getting a bit lively. My own opinion: Absolutely its a Christmas movie. In my house, we've watch Die Hard on Christmas day since it was first released. it makes a fun distraction from all the fuss and stress that's led up to the day. What cha think?

Need New Carry Flashlight - Suggestions appreciated
Grayfox54 replied to crc4's topic in Knives, Lights, EDC Gear
I carry a Streamlight Micro-stream in my pocket every day. Very small and doesn't take much space. Yet bright enough for my needs. When I was working, I carried a Streamlight Stylus in my shirt pocket. Again, small but plenty bright enough. -
I've seen a couple of posts around the web about Trump's "Collector Cards" that say nobody, not even the most loyal Trumper, would be stupid enough to buy that. Speculation is that its a way to launder his illegal money and avoid uncomfortable questions. All I know is that I sure as Hell ain't buying any of that junk.

I don't think I've ever regretted selling a car or truck. I tend to keep 'em until they're plumb used up. As a young man, I never could afford the hot cars. The only muscle car I ever owned was a 1972 Dodge Dart Swinger with that wicked little 340 in it. Granted, it was the fastest car I ever owned, but I spent more time fixing that POS than I did driving it. I was happy to see that one go. Other than that, my vehicles have always been basic, reliable transportation. My current truck is a 2003 F-150 that I've owned since 2006. It suits me to a "T" and ain't going nowhere. However, after the first of the year I will be putting up for sale my late wife's car. 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis LS. My wife was disabled and didn't drive it much. For the last 12 years, I've just used it as a spare vehicle. Excellent condition and only 70,000 miles. It has sentimental value, but I just can't justify keeping it any more. Its time for it to go.

Human heart found in TDOT salt pile in Humphreys County
Grayfox54 replied to Ronald_55's topic in General Chat
The real question is where's the rest of the body? Can they still get viable DNA from it? I'd think they would be looking carefully at where this salt came from and who else bought from that same supply.
