  1. Why? Its pretty easy for anybody to get one.
  2. I got an e-mail from CMP this morning. They're selling 1911s again. A few changes in the rules. No more "Rounds" of sales. No more Random Generated Numbers. Its first come, first served until they're gone. Still a lifetime limit of two per customer, but you can order two at the same time if you want. Prices went up a little, but its still a bargain. Details at https://thecmp.org/
  3. You might try checking Seamstress/ Alterations on Craig's List. Surly somebody out there can help you.
  4. Depends on when it was made. The older rifles required an off set scope mount due to the fact that it ejects straight up. But it can be done with the right mount. Kinda awkward, but it works. Winchester changed this about 30 years ago (?) when they came out with the Angle Eject (AE) versions. The receiver is factory drilled and tapped and its just a matter of mounting the scope. Personally, I don't care for a scope on a lever gun. But that's just me. You might consider going to peep sights. There are also mounts available for a Scout type scope or Red Dots.
  5. I'd love to see it pass, but its highly unlikely. There are more than enough RINOs in congress that it'll never make it to the floor.
  6. Nothing official yet, but I don't think this is a school shooting per say. Teenage boy shoots teenage girl, bystander wounded. I'm thinking its likely a case of a murder/suicide. They just happened to be at a school. But I could be wrong and there's no telling how the media will spin it.
  7. Beware of Bubba. He could break an anvil. Thankfully, it wasn't much to fix it.
  8. Want to buy a factory handguard for a S&W M&P 15-22 Sport. 10" long w/ M-Lok slots
  9. Among the E.O.s signed by Trump today is a freeze on new federal regulations. While this is in effect for all federal agencies, if I'm understanding this right, it will mean that BATF&E can no longer bend federal laws in such a way as to restrict our 2A rights. No more making legal firearms or accessories suddenly illegal with the stroke of a pen. Am i wrong? Thoughts? Discussion?
  10. Nice. I could be tempted by one of the 686s. But being a Lipsey's Exclusive and limited numbers, I'm betting that they sell out in a matter of hours. If you want one, better jump quick!
  11. I just happened to look outside about an hour ago and was surprised to see snow coming down pretty good. But it didn't last long. All we got was a dusting and that's mostly gone now.
  12. That is detonation that I mentioned earlier. Some years back Cowboy shooters were experimenting with powder puff loads to reduce recoil and increase speed. Guns started blowing up. Simply put: large cases and not enough powder results in an explosion rather than a burn. Lots of info on the internet about it if you just search. The .45-70 can be loaded to three different power levels depending on the guns used. These range from mild to wild. Again, lots of info on the web is readily available. My Browning 1886 is capable of handling Level 2 loads. But I've found that my old azz is happy sticking to Level 1.
  13. I recommend you stick to proven level 1 (Trapdoor) loads. They aren't that bad to shoot. Trying to make light loads in big cartridge cases can lead to problems you don't want. Namely erratic velocities and possibly even detonation. The .45-70 was never intended to be a plinker. Don't try to make it one.
  14. That's the current production Model 19 Classic. It does have the lock. The no lock guns aren't available yet.
  15. Ok, so they eliminated the lock. You still have a two piece barrel, MIM parts, a frame mounted firing pin plus the QC problems that have plagued S&W for the last 20 years or more. So what's the big deal? I do admit, I am digging the looks of the new Model 10. Damn fine looking gun there with some nice older features. Very nostalgic. But I already have several older Model 10s and M&Ps. I'll wait until they've been out for a while and get some real world reviews before spending any money.
  16. This guy needs some serious mental help. Maybe he can get it in jail.
  17. Temps have been in the mid to upper 30s today and the sun is shining. Roads, driveways and sidewalks are completely clear. Still pretty good coverage on yards and roofs. I thinking that by Monday, Tuesday latest, it'll all be gone.
  18. I went out and measured. Got 5.5" here. But this is curious. I found footprints in the snow leading up my driveway to my carport/front porch area. Look like adult sized work boots. Nothing was left on the porch, nothing seems to be disturbed, nothing missing. Vehicles are fine. I wonder what that was all about?
